Hi Jag1357! The flannel goes in right after the first round of scrap fabric is sewn on the outer edge of the backing. I added long narrow pieces of flannel and didn't work with a big huge piece. You could also use your walking foot to make sure the work stays flat but I didn't have any problems. Thank you for your comment and support!

I cannot think of a better way to honor her heriage and possibly others!!

Hello Hela! I'm delighted you like this video! This method of doing a Kawandi is so addicting and there is no waste because you just fold it over and hide it in the quilt. The flannel or any batting you choose to work with goes in after the first round of scrap fabric is added to the outer edge of the quilt. You can also sew your smallest pieces together to make little crumb blocks and add these in as a piece of fabric. I hope you have a beautiful week ahead! Thank you for watching and your support of our little channel.
@@conqueringmountscrapmorewi2509 Thanks for your kind answer! I will definitely try this out, I hate to throw away what can be used again, so this is perfect :) I wish you a beautyful week as well :)
So, you kind of did a "quilt as you go"? I had to watch three times to figure out a few things: when to add flannel for batting, and how all the crumbs got stitched together. The third time, I realized that you were quilting after each round. That's a brilliant way to add strips of flannel instead of struggling with a whole piece 👍 Eventually, it occurred to me that I probably should watch your video on making this by hand, so I did, and all of my questions were answered. This machine technique was the first video I have seen from your channel. Thanks for being patient with all of us who are confused newcomers. On a side note, I see that all of your replies to comments are cut and paste identical. Did you do that on purpose? Awaiting your response, greetings from East Texas, have a great day!

I have used very very tiny scraps like in a crazy quiltbblock fashion, but i discovered this method of making quilts when i was researching quiltmaking from the country of India. I have a friend who is originally from India and found how to make Kantha quilts. Im so excited to try these! My friend sells cotton Indian dresses so i got some toake these types of quilts. I cannot think of a better way to honor her heriage and possibly others!!

The flannel or any batting you choose to work with goes in after the first round of scrap fabric is added to the outer edge of the quilt. You can also sew your smallest pieces together to make little crumb blocks and add these in as a piece of fabric. I have made two of these already because they are so addicting! I hope you have a beautiful week ahead! Thank you for watching and your support of our little channel.
