Steve, you are the best. There are other RUclipsrs who edit videos fancier, who prepare garnishes more richer, who play cool music in the background. But none of them are as genuine and as nice of a person you are. You are my favourite RUclips bartender. If I lived in Australia, I’d go to your bar every week. 😉 keep up the good work Steve
Consider making "sour" orange juice, although I've heard it called many different things, including acid-adjusted. Convert the OJ to something along the lines of lime or lemon acidity for better flavor in drinks with malic and citric acid.
Totally agree with you about the orange juice, especially for a Blood and Sand. I suppose the same is kinda true for the Monkey Gland. Just need a kick of acid for balance. I've done it with citric acid added to the juice in the past the result is way better!
Nice to see another absinthe drink. Definitely try the front porch lemonade. Original recipe calls for lemonade but it comes out too sweet for my taste. I do 0.5 oz vodka, 0.5 oz cointreau, 0.5 oz absinthe, 0.5 oz fresh lemon juice and 1.5 oz water. Shake and serve over ice.
Try to add grenadine after straining, will drop down and won't affect taste so much, and make one Absinthe spray on top when finished. Not sure if it would be much better. But I've heard this suggestion form one of my colleagues...
Thanks Steve for sharing another great looking cocktail. Surprised to hear you are not a OJ fan in your cocktails. No reason, just surprised. Cheers mate and stay safe!
Looks like it would be tasty. Also saw on your gin's website you are making hand sanitizer currently for healthcare and whatnot. Awesome job, keep it up
Hello. I'm loving your videos. I have a couple of questions. Is it okay to use Bombay Sapphire instead? And I have pomegranate simple syrup (shop bought I'm afraid) will that do? I want to make this on the weekend! Thanks!
It took me a long time to find orange juice cocktails enjoyable. The key for me was finding quality oranges. Unlike limes and lemons, which can vary a little in flavour and aroma, oranges vary a LOT. I'm in Hong Kong so all my oranges are imported. The most common are giant pulpy naval oranges from South Africa or Egypt. Occasionally we'll get some nice varietals from Australia or USA, although naval oranges from those regions are rarely good either. The best I ever had were these "Sunkist Premium" from USA. Even peeling them was easier, and would spray zest oil all over the place.
I miss the "shout out" to the Buy the Barback feature. Even though my spirit hasn't been featured in the last few cocktails, I have wanted a reminder of who supplied the ticketed booze you're using.
Way to build up the cocktail LOL Ya strange name. Interestingly in my part of the world we have an orange ice cream with black liquorice(tiger tail ice cream) swirls that taste like oj and absinthe... YUM
I think orange juice really gets along with rum. In fact, I drink rum with orange juice (2oz white rum, 1oz orange juice, 1/2oz simple syrup) pretty much everyday. By the way, I have a question. How do I describe flavours? I often hear "herbal", "floral", and that kind of stuff, but I don't quite understand.
Once things are back to normal we’ll spend a couple months growing in SA before expanding out to VIC.. It might be a while before we make it to Perth unless we start getting wholesale enquiries.. but we can ship Auswide.. and we’re offering free shipping currently 👌
Hi, I wanted to ask, how much grenadine to use, when it is just normal store bought. Because I tried your pink Panthers milk and mine didn't turn pink at all. I think in that video you said that your grenadine is homemade a quite strong. But as we already had some grenadine at home, I didn't want to make it myself ☺️ i love your videos and the Cocktails
hi, i've been wondering if i could store fresh citrus juices and other juices for cocktails longer if i added little vodka or other strong alcohol in them, love your content btw
Have you tried freezing the juice you have pressed in ice cube trays? I’ve done this for years at home and in a ‘taste test’ can’t tell the difference. Crack the cubes out as you need them but don’t freeze again after defrosting.
I know you don't like plugging your own gin, but I think it would be a really good video idea to make a couple cocktails using your gin that really showcase it. Just thought it would be a good idea as a lot of people will be trying it for the first time and it would be good to know a couple drinks that itde go well in
South Africa! It was meant to be an insult to unsophisticated South African diners- instead it took off like wildfire. There are a few variations, but the base ingredients are tomato sauce (ketchup), Cape chutney and Worcestershire sauce. Avoid the Steers brand sauce, it is awful.
Steveee, liquor stores are closed due to lockdown. These videos only make us more desperate to break those stores and steal some bottles 😂😂😂 funny thought though
When you said vitality did you mean virility? Because that would make more sense as far as what that crazy guy was doing with those poor monkey's nuts :-(
Going to try this although I dislike orange juice in cocktails. Also for this one, isn't it too sweet? Orange juice, grenadine and simple syrup? Thanks a lot Steve! Stay safe! Ps: speaking of OJ in cocktails, have you read Dave Arnold's recipe to make lime-strength orange juice to use it in cocktails with an appropriate tartness?
Personally, the only cocktails I've ever enjoyed with OJ in them were tiki drinks with a bunch of spices and exotic syrups. Not a fan of the Mimosa or Monkey Gland, and I despise Ward 8s and Blood & Sands. Just my $0.02
I fine strain my juice when I squeeze it, have a strainer with a tight coil and use good quality cubed ice which doesn’t really chip and leave shards... so don’t find the need.
Orange push-up, I used to make these all the time in college. Great sweat summertime cocktail that uses orange juice. This is the closest recipe I could quickly find to how I used to make them. drinksfeed.com/orange-push-up-cocktail/
That name reminded me the myth (maybe not a myth, I dunno) about vanilla flavouring getting extracted from beaver anal glands. Maybe there's a vanilla cocktail called "beaver glands"? :P
Steve - monkey glands may be off putting but maybe you would like to try cow's instead like Serge Ibaka and Kyle Lowry from the Toronto Raptors... ruclips.net/video/EzkrN_EAbcU/видео.html
Hi Steve. Love watching your vlogs, some really great recipes!! Would love to hear your thoughts on a riff on a espresso martini which I enjoy making. It’s sort of my own take on what I like. 60ml Patron XO coffee tequila, 30ml coffee, 15ml cream de cacao. Would love to have you try it and hear your thoughts or suggestions for any improvements!! Cheers 🍸

Steve the Bartender Bro no garnishing video link there !!?
Kinda like a Harvey Wallbanger but with Gin instead of vodka
Steve the Bartender what can you substitute if you’re allergic to wormwood, absinthe has wormwood in it
Pacific coast piper Pastis - www.thrillist.com/spirits/pastis/absinthepastis-101
Steve the Bartender thanks for the info, I’ll have to give it a whirl if I can get the stuff
NOOOOOOOOO WE DIDNT GET THE SMILE GUISEEEEEEEE
Sometimes i just want to see that smile again
...
Why didn't you smile while shaking? :(
Is literally the first thing I noticed when I first joined
Existential orange juice angst.
The name "monkey gland" is so off-putting he forgot to smile during his shaking lol
Oh no
Steve are you ok
That's funny, I thought the exact same thing...."What, no cheeky grin?"

Haha, thank you for the compliment (I think)..

Such a humble and lovely guy. I tried the cocktail and my girlfriend loved it!!!!!!!!!
Love your work
The story alone makes it worth trying!! Great video.
Humble, precise, funny and passionate.... great bartender skills !:)
Perfect timing! I just made some grenadine and this will be just the thing to try. Also simple garnish is just as good!
"Quite pleasant ", how about we just call it Monkey Balls and serve it over ice balls.
Great video with a very interesting story behind!
It's never been my absolute favorite, but I've always liked this cocktail
Came across this one in Ted Haigh's book...i found it surprisingly good. Nice to see you doing a vid of it. Cheers!
Speaking of orange juice in cocktails, I tried an orange mule yesterday. The orange juice + ginger beer combo was a winner.
You, sir, owe us a double smile on the next vid! 😁 Keep up the good work and stay safe.
Great post
Thanks Coco!

@Steve this my quarantine cocktail
I have a few skinless oranges now in the fridge. Maybe its time to juice one and try this cocktail.
You need to reupload the video, it's corrupted and it cut out your shake smile!
This one sounds interesting. I'm curious about more cocktails from the 1920's and American prohibition.
Looks like it would be tasty. Also saw on your gin's website you are making hand sanitizer currently for healthcare and whatnot. Awesome job, keep it up
Did the same home but having no absinthe I putted jagermeifter and it tastes nice !
We r starting a cocktail competition in quarantine so I will be using a lot of your recipes .. 🥰

WHAT?!?!? NO SMILE?!?!? COME ON STEVEN!!!!!

I think it’s time to rename this drink.
I havent tasted monkey glands, but I will try this recipe.
Love your content keep up the good work :D
Actually started making cocktails myself trough you and im having a lot of fun with it
ooooow! I just got home from work and mixed one up. DELICIOUS! btw, I missed the smile and shake :(
I miss the "shout out" to the Buy the Barback feature. Even though my spirit hasn't been featured in the last few cocktails, I have wanted a reminder of who supplied the ticketed booze you're using.
You dont know how much you miss somthing till its gone🙃
forgot to link both videos!
You did not smile , u do not like the drink. 🤣🤣
Way to build up the cocktail LOL Ya strange name. Interestingly in my part of the world we have an orange ice cream with black liquorice(tiger tail ice cream) swirls that taste like oj and absinthe... YUM
That sounds delicious!!
I'm not disliking it but I am also not gonna drop a like just so that you know, many of us come here for that smile. THAT GODDAMN SMILE.
I was looking forward to your smile during the the shake. ☹️
OJ is overrated I agree! I like the Blood and Sand over the Monkey Gland though. But still... not my best. Cheers!

I think that you threw down a challenge for yourself. The next 10 drinks need your "A" game on garnishing. Bring it on !
Am loving the trend of gin cocktails! Are there any plans for stockists in WA to sell your threefold gin?

'hopefully it doesn't taste like monkey gland'... does that mean Steve knows how monkey gland tastes....?
I haven’t but I can imagine it wouldn’t be pretty! Haha
Guess the name is based on prohibition, most of the cocktails had those animal names, like the bees knee and so on
hi, i've been wondering if i could store fresh citrus juices and other juices for cocktails longer if i added little vodka or other strong alcohol in them, love your content btw

I like putting a little bit of oj into a bee's knees, it lengthens it out and doesn't overpower imo
vitality, virility, who's counting?
No...... smile......... NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
YOU OWE US TWO SMILES NOW!!
Scared to find out we’re monkey gland steak sauce comes from now
South Africa! It was meant to be an insult to unsophisticated South African diners- instead it took off like wildfire. There are a few variations, but the base ingredients are tomato sauce (ketchup), Cape chutney and Worcestershire sauce. Avoid the Steers brand sauce, it is awful.

They aren't closed in Florida!

Not a complete video without your smile 😬
Did you NOT smile? Go and have a coffee mate, and come back once you've cheered up!
Could you make this without absinthe? If so, would it drastically change the taste?
What the hell Steve!!?? No smile? We demand a reshoot. Are you ok? You don't have The Rona do you? What's your 🌡
Where's my patented 😃 SMILE
No need to upgrade the garnish game. More important that the drink tasts good ;)
Do you reuse the ice from the shakers?
If you had done the smile, you'd get a thumbs up.
cheers🍻
Made it a couple of times but it never really gelled with me. The recipe I used included a lot more grenadine which over sweetened it, I think.
I prefer it with no simple syrup, and more grenadine.
No smile. How very dare you.
Agree...not a fan of OJ in cocktails outside of Simosas. Hook us up Steve!
Drop the simple syrup, make up w/more grenadine, you won't be sorry.
I love the smile, but not getting it everytime can be nice too; makes the rest of them more genuine!
What!? No smile? I want my money back.
what brand absinthe do you use in the atomizer?
It would only be gross if monkey "glands" tasted gross....
For the record, I don't know if they taste gross but...
Inquiring minds want to know...
Personally, the only cocktails I've ever enjoyed with OJ in them were tiki drinks with a bunch of spices and exotic syrups. Not a fan of the Mimosa or Monkey Gland, and I despise Ward 8s and Blood & Sands. Just my $0.02
Tried one of these recently (incidentally). I wanted to like it, but orange and absinthe together was a loser for me. Too weird.
U are great sir but u don't double strain drink often is there any reason behind it
I fine strain my juice when I squeeze it, have a strainer with a tight coil and use good quality cubed ice which doesn’t really chip and leave shards... so don’t find the need.
Great. Thank-you so much your reply
Dried fig garnish yeah??
Where was the mid shake smile? Is everything ok, Steve?
Orange push-up, I used to make these all the time in college. Great sweat summertime cocktail that uses orange juice. This is the closest recipe I could quickly find to how I used to make them. drinksfeed.com/orange-push-up-cocktail/
Afternoon Steve, how’re you doing?
I sorry... did you just NOT smile st the camera while shaking the cocktail? Steve what's wrong?
Argh! What happened to the classic smile after the shake???
That name reminded me the myth (maybe not a myth, I dunno) about vanilla flavouring getting extracted from beaver anal glands. Maybe there's a vanilla cocktail called "beaver glands"? :P
You WILL be the test taster..... Lol
@@TheSpiritoftheCocktail I won't say I'm against that... :P
@@chelarestelar lol, fair enough.....
Need something good to mix with Popov Vodka
Where was the smile
What about the smile? :(
Do you not like a Tequila Sunrise??
Smile please
