Well what a cool vacation William and neeto to get to go to SVO and loved seeing the catasetum house and you're right that cattleya was so gorgeous, I noticed that there was a little more orange in the lip than the Rex's but still beautiful 😍 and glad to see the misting system worked out in your absence!! Great video and update thanks for sharing William!!
About time you are back. Hope you had a good time on your hiking adventures. I must admit, I do miss living in Denver and being able to drive over to Utah and do some hiking and heading up to the mountains to ski in the winter. Just can't deal with the whole winter thing. I have a couple of Triumphans seedlings to send you, probably going to wait until September-ish because it is so dang hot everywhere. In the meantime, they'll be pushing out roots and maybe producing another new growth.
You are too kind Michael! The trip was really nice and a good break from my routines and bad habits. When I got back, the orchids seemed much less important. Not sure if I will go back to my old ways or if the boat on the river of Life has been steered a little in another direction.
I have been looking for a Cattleya Triumphans ever since Rafael showed his. So beautiful. I am hoping at least one of my clivias will bloom next year. You inspired me to buy 3 seedlings in 2019. 😊 Thanks for sharing.
It's big, has wonderful delicately colored petals and sepals, and that wowza lip. Good luck with your Clivia, they are the most underestimated houseplant here in the US in my opinion.
I just read an email from SVO about their new releases. How exciting! You were kinda/sorta close to me. SVO is just an hour away. In California terms, that's close!
In my opinion are algae. Algae can access the orchid root system when they are exposed to excess moisture and light for a sufficient period of time .The presence of algae simply implies that you were over-watering the plant.Hydrogen peroxide (H 2 O 2 ) can be used to remove the algae on the roots and try to open the tent often so you have fresh air..I hope that help...
Maybe it's not enough. Maybe bring some outdoor air indoors via a fan and foil duct after all the air shouldn't be cold as it is summer over there. And if the air is dry you have the misters.
The crust on the roots looks a lot like algae if you ask me. H2O2 should kill it off, but it still takes time (springtails speed it up) for the dead algae to come off the velamen

I have always hated clay pots. If you look everyone that uses them the roots die out side them. I think the clay absorbs the root. I have no proof but I see it on every channel and have experienced this on my own. 🤷♀️
I use Clay pots / Tree Fern pots / Wood Vanda Baskets. Have _never seen roots die like that William. Wondering if the pots had some sort of containment from the manufacturer / storage facility?
Well when you use clay you have to plant in something water retaining like sphagnum and there's 2 types of clay. cheap hardware store clay pots that are soft clay the suck up water and are incredibly pouris then there's hard clay its more expensive and harder to find its very smooth and doesn't turn a darker shade of orange when wet . in conclusion I use hard clay pots and they do not suck the moisture out of roots but roots still attach.
Fungi are amazing, they can grow just about anywhere. I've seen them grow on glass, just living off of condensations and whatever is in the air that drops on them. So yes, your clay pot is infected and I doubt you will be able to get rid of that fungus without pouring so many chemicals on it that the orchid too will be affected. If it were me I'd trash that clay pot pronto as indoor fungi are not good.
When I re-use a clay pot, I first put it in the oven for 2-3 hours at 300°F/150°C to sterilize it. I like that they are reusable and don't degrade over time, but plastic has its advantages too.

Thank you Shirley, it was a short but amazing visit.
That Triumphans is just the best thing ever! Also, I’m stoked to see that cooperi bloom!
Triumphans was a stunner. So looking forward to the cooperi!

Loved the visit to SVO! Especially the triumphans.

Yes! We steered clear of the LA area, but really enjoyed the coast from Oceanside down to San Diego.
Amigo que belleza tus orqudeas en california es un clima bello
sí ojalá viviera allí 🌴
That jade plant would make a wonderful indoor bonsai you should check out some videos on jade bonsai.
😁
Thanks P, it definitely needs some pruning and shaping.

Hmm. Might be just shadow from the other pseudobulb, but to me one of the fall growth had buds? C. maxima
Even if it's not, we should be seeing something soon!
Do you have the same air circulating in your grow tent
The 'door' of the tent is always open at the bottom, so it's not sealed.

I grow mine in plastic pots and they still do that. Not all but some plants really like to send out roots and after a while they just wither off.
@@carmellacarey3553 Ah well it's hard to say I probably got cheap pots cause I got from Lowes. It's much easier to just use plastic.
