2014 Godzilla feels like it’s from a different franchise at this point
It's basically Godzilla vs. Cloverfield. And like Cloverfield, it was WAY more grounded that the recent two cartoon-like movies.
@@Nonamearisto IKR
GvsK and GxK now are more trying to be funny movies.
Agreed
Well it was suppose to be it's own thing. It never meant to have sequels, but the movie made bank, so they decided to make more movies.
The 2014 GODZILLA will always be uniquely different from the ones after it. Gareth just thinks different. Wish they could've kept him but at least they tried to keep the story going.
Yeah, atleast they tried..
2014 Godzilla was goated ❤
Absolutly agree
Yes
Yes.

everybody agrees.
I hope next MonsterVerse film will be another solo Godzilla with dark and seriously tone and reflect the complexity of Godzilla's character from his POV or something like that. But it better be another solo Godzilla film.
Bro just watch the 54 or shin godzilla
@@dr1o761 those or old he ment a new one didn't you read the comment?
Me too.
Dude Godzilla is a cameo on the new Godzilla x Kong films :( also in GVK
@@T-Virus_x3didn't he appear the least in 2014
this movie was just a MASTERPEICE. Gareth, please come back
Exactly , I recently watched the GVK new empire movie twice. The fights were great, but in terms of the story, they went too far, making it far complicated. Personally, the only Monsterverse movie I like and watch very frequently is Godzilla 2014. It was a simple, old-school monster movie with a deep and dark storyline, and the build-up was fantastic.
@dominicx4936 gxk had a really simple story, idk what your on about. and the expanded lore was easy for me to take in and just made me appreciate how well GxK did in terms of world building which isn’t spoken about much as far as i know surprisingly.
Lol only@@dominicx4936
@@MicrowaveMan-gy9nu2014 had a much better cast than GVK. Only character that was interesting was Jia.
You need to check in the dictionary what "masterpiece" means man, that movie is far from ot, especially when they killed off Brian Cranston's character it became worse than Twiligjt
Godzilla 2014 has such more "realism" in comparison to the more recent movies. Godzilla here has so much WEIGHT to him, and even still the graphics look even better. For a giant creature in a city, they manages to make it feel very scary- and realistic in the 2014 version. The movie was very well paced too.
It's as if everybody has forgotten what the creatures would really move like, and Gareth did an incredible job.
this is exactly what i thought. if you want to make a kaiju film... then make it feels like you're watching a giant monster on the screen. 2014 film really nails it because it has so much sense of scale and weight. sadly the franchise start loosing that after 2nd movie.. and with the latest entry i couldnt tell if im watching a kaiju movie.. or just mediocre action flick. just think about how colossal is pacific rim and then you get a disappointment called uprising
The only and HUGE mistake was killing the Brian Cranston character so so early in the movie. The only character with some real tragic story to follow. They could make the story so much better.
I think it would have been cool to see Bryan Cranston’s character interact with Kyle Chandler’s character, I feel like that would have been awesome
Ford Brody was great
@@adamtorske9236Kyle's character had his moments but he was useless. It was his wife, Vera Farmiga's character that was great. And he was just onscreen for the sake on GvK
Once he proved they were hiding something his character arc was over. Writing 101
@@TheHeston83 Ford Brody was boring character. People like him, because he played a role in Avengers 2. Cmon man.
The HALO jump sequence is extraordinary.
Yes! I get chills everytime I see it or remember it.
I want Gareth Edwards should direct another Godzilla movie, his movie was so unique❤🙌✅
He's gonna be in the next jurassic park movie
For real I know I will be hated a lot for this but I honestly hate Adam Winngard his movies are great but I just hate him.
Respect
Gareth said he wanted to do a remake of Destroy All Monsters.
He's too busy now.
He said he got 5 projects lined up after The Creator.

9:57 We NEED this mentality to return or become more at the forefront when it comes to animating the monsters in the monsterverse, I’m all for a fun beat’em up brawl between huge creatures, but the major thing that also made them and this film so appealing that it got me into Godzilla, was how with any scene involving them, they *felt* their size; they can be at each other’s throats in combat, but the techniques utilized in 2014 never took away that sense of weight and scale, something that the franchise began to lose the further it went on in my opinion
Now it's just a showa rehash, no weight or scale but a bunch of monsters either iconic names fighting.
It feels..empty.
They are like gods, theey are supposed to be above their size and weight, not hindered.
@@CattusTheDevourer Nothing wrong with the showa era... you like the more serious Godzilla, i like Godzila has a whole.
@@raptros not when they treat him like a money magnet and make him look ridiculous.
I have respect for the character, but it can't be given when the group directors treat it as a play thing. Literally.
He's always been a moneymaker. Godzilla was made because another film fell through. @@CattusTheDevourer
I really loved this version of Godzilla. Dark and gritty with horror style cinematics.
I missed this type of Godzilla movie..i hope we got to see this again in Monsterverse.
Um...monarch? Mostly grounded? Took itself seriously? We already got the g14 vibes back again in the MV in that show
I want Godzilla to show he's power not feel like a beached whale dude...
@@raptrosYeah and he did that. Now he just looks and moves like some underweight boxer. His movement and CGI is so bad. He has no weight behind him. He doesn’t even seem that big anymore 😂😂😂
@@captainelliot8767 it's like they're trying to copy the MCU or something, literally no better than that.
@@CattusTheDevourer That's not true at all, Godzilla has always been like this. You people forget most Japanese movies were done with a guy in a rubber suit, you've had Gamera and many other tokusatsu shows showing how those monsters are supposed to move. I don't believe for a minute the "grounded" feel of the heisei you people praise so much was 100% intentional but limitations due to the limited SFX they could use in those movies. Even MechaGodzilla II was relegated to a Zoner because the suit was too fragile. If Toho redid those movies with a quarter of Minus one or Shin Ultraman effects i bet my whole wage Godzilla wouldn't be moving like statue.
I miss the 2014 vibes.
The perfect tone for the franchise

Imagine a Godzilla vs. Kong movie with the tone and impeccable cinematography that G'14 has
That's what I'm studying to make, just need to learn background and 3d modeling to animate it.
Hopefully in about 2 years, it'll be ready and produced on here.
So we no longer live with what they've given us.

This movie had so much weight and gravity to it, visually speaking. Since KOTM it's felt more like a marvel movie than a monster movie. I really hope they come back to this more darker-tone "by the foot" prespective
People hated on this movie for no reason. Looking back, this is the best American Godzilla movie imo.
Godzilla 2014 , Godzilla King Of Monsters and Kong: Skull Island are the best from Monsterverse
I didnt like the GvsK and GxK, they were too childish
@@giannisksanthopoulos4300Completely agree, loved the 2014 Godzilla with a passion, and King Of The Monsters was a great sequel, I just wish they cut Millie Bobby Browns character out a lot more, the family drama drags it down, but everything with Kyle Chandler was great though, awesome actor.
The soundtrack to KOTM was awesome, as were the visuals and monster scenes. 💯
Constant cutaways? Killing off Joe too early? Ford borderline being bland? Misleading marketing? Please don't act like g14 was flawless,
@@giannisksanthopoulos4300 Childish is godzilla's revenge, a film intentionally made for kids, please don't act like kotm (the same film with a gonorrhea joke for example) isn't campy like gvk or gxk. Nothing wrong with a campy tone. Problem is the writing.
If only the rest of the MonsterVerse had the same realistic vibes as this one....
Whatever
eh
If only godzilla was as cool in 2014😢😂😂
Most of the franchise ain't "realistic" for a reason
Realistic... Sure 🤣 i guess whales should be able to fly by your account and not get crushed under their own weight by gravity, and they're a fraction of Godzilla's size.
one of if not the best godzilla or monster film ever made
*2014 still the best version so far and -1 too*
Although King of the Monsters is my favorite Monsterverse film, I agree that Godzilla 2014 is a underrated one. It almost like a horror film rather than big monster movie.
the only bad side is, the film is too dark lol, barely see anything
Would have been better if it kept the grounded tone Gareth had established and the sped up movement was horrible
@@HAIRYMAN-13 I disagree, grounding these characters was how 1998 happaned and completely breaks them. Godzilla is supposed to be doing drop kicks and flying and pulling continental plates apart and tanking Black holes not... feel like a beached whale :/
@@raptrospretty sure its cuz the monsterverse started off grounded and realistic it shouldve kept that route for the monsterverse like skull island
Bring back this terrifying and heavy Godzilla.
He is currently a cartoon in the Monsterverse, He deserves more respect
Bring back Gareth Edwards for the Monsterverse!
#Bring him back!
Best Monsterverse movie. Feel free to discuss it.
Totally
No need to discuss the truth.
For me:
1. Kong: Skull Island
2. Godzilla 2014
3. King of Monsters
Gvk is best
Ye
2014 was my first Godzilla movie. I just love and respect this movie so much for helping bringing Godzilla to modern audiences. Toho seemed to be done with making Godzilla movies at that point after making FW for the 50th anniversary. And I believe this movie brought back that spark. This movie walked so the newer Godzilla movies could run. If you dislike it, that's fine, but atleast give it a little bit of respect.
3:55 Well now sadly it has become this
Do the Monsterverse a huge favor. Re-release this movie brightened up and in IMAX.
Gareth Edwards' use of scale is calling for this to experience in IMAX. Masked with darker tones made it difficult to see most of the Godzilla vs MUTOs fighting scenes.
Those dark tones were recently fixed in the UHD 4K version. This one film can strike while the Godzilla iron is radiation hot.
I would really like to thank everyone that was involved making Godzilla 2014! It's one heck of an adventure! :)
gareth made art. Some of the shots were so iconic. Not only it was a great godzilla movie, it was a great thriller/disaster movie in general. You can enjoy the flashy cgi fights in the new movies, but if you bash on 2014 for lacking "action" or being too dark, you got no taste.
I remember back in 2014 when I watched it that isn’t what to dark in tone but just to dimly lit. I couldn’t see the really cool bits even in cinema. So no it wasn’t too dark just too dark😊
Nah I really can't enjoy the new movies at all. I will forever pretend that they don't have anything to do with this one.
@@Micha-qv5uf that's exactly how it feels like
2014 one of my favourite Monsterverse Godzilla movie!
Same!
i hope to see more heavy and grounded godzilla films like this in the future. this, the original, shin and minus one all nailed in this way
You have to understand that they need to to make the OG fans happy first. Which means they will have to have their own Showa Era (Dumb fun/ridiculous fight scenes/lack luster human characters)
Heisei Era (Kind of an inbetween of dumb fun and serious vibes, with it gearing more towards the serious side towards the end of the era)
And
Millennium Era (no dumb fun ridiculous fight scenes/not really kid oriented/more grounded characters)
@@erickperez8770 They always have to be Godzilla movies first, and show respect for the character, you try to ground him, you will ruin the character. That's how 1998 happened.
We Need Gareth Edwards back again!!!!
2014 is still my favorite MonsterVerse film
same
i wish we could have more of this Godzilla. i mean kudos to GxK for making a fun monster fight movie, but the suspenseful atmosphere of G2014 is amazing
Bring back the 2014/KOTM look/feel!
Gareth Edwards made the masterpiece of Godzilla 2014, it’s the best movie of the Monsterverse
GvK and GxK have done an almost total 180 in tone and focus on sense of scale and I hate it.
It was so easy to forget the monsters where giant 300+ foot giants while watching GxK specifically. It was abit better in the end fight but the Hollow earth really destroyed the sense of scale.
Get my goat Gareth to direct the next Godzilla movie again PLEASE 😭
Gareth cooked HARD with this
This is still my favorite monster verse movie, it introduced me to Godzilla as a kid and I absolutely loved it, me and my cousin are huge fans
Same
It's a great entry point. But it doesn't show Godzilla's true power, these movies do.
godzilla 2014 is the best and by far.
6:50 THIS is what i want to see more often in every monster movie
Things that this movie did right or really interesting: sense of scale, showing physics (tsunami scene), the airport silence scene, chinatown roar and the atomic breath reveal. Only defects were how little time we had with Bryan and Godzilla overall.
This movie was so goated, love to see all the passion and hard work that went into it!
After seeing GxK, this movie & Gareth was terribly underrated.
This was a nice refresher Godzilla 2014 isn't like a monsterverse movie I'd watch over but it's a movie I respect for better or for worse. ( I'm looking at you Legendary Godzilla fan boys )
I hope Gareth Edwards comes back and makes the Godzilla vs. Destroyah movie, that would be awesome
2014 Godzilla has my favorite scene from any movie period, the HALO drop is pure Masterpiece.
I want WB to make such movies, make us feel the terror of these creatures in FPV. Right now they more look like some superheroes.
2014 I think has the best depiction of the shear cinematic weight of Godzilla.
Still my favorite film of the Monsterverse by FAR! This movie actually had a serious tone and PURPOSE for a monster fight to happen, rather than a mindless battle. We spent time WITH the MUTOs and developed a connection with the "villain" AND Godzilla, making their inevitable fight more exciting. The weight of these monsters were felt. *NOBODY was stupidly cheering on the sidelines as millions of people were dying like in newer films!* Please go back to your roots. People would love to see another solo Godzilla film battling an old recognizable foe.
This movie will stand the test of time. Still my favorite.
They definitely need to get Gareth back to do one more solo G film before the Monsterverse comes to a close
Where were all these G14 lovers when the movie came out?? The monsterverse is AWESOME and it’s gotten to have less of a focus on humans and more on the monsters, which is a main complaint from this movie,
I’ve seen nothing but love from so many fans since GxK released (myself included) and now all I’m seeing is “ohhh I miss when Godzilla was grounded & realistic like G14” for the monsterverse you have G14 & Monarch, and for Toho you have 54, Shin, Minus One and probably more that I don’t know of cuz I haven’t seen every movie 😅
It just feels like you can’t win even tho, as Goji fans, WE HAVE SO MUCH
the best goszilla movie from the monsterverse
Love this movie. So many things were done so right, like the sense of scale created by unique set pieces. In my book, 2014 remains a modern day Godzilla classic.
WARNER THANK U SO MUCH FOR THIS MONSTERVERSE
best godzilla so far for me
slow build-up that shows how threatening godzilla is from a human perspective
I can't believe this is the best Godzilla movie ever made, (sorry minus one)
Gareth Edwards and Bear McCreary should return in the Monsterverse. Their job was amazing.
I love MonsterVerse so far. I love it so much. I owe it all to this movie.
I sure bet the fans are being respectful and having valid arguments and not constantly making the same comment and dissing the tone of the later MonsterVerse.. you guys are fighting a losing battle.
You got this movie. Be happy you do.
Man i miss this 2014 era 🥲
Godzilla 2014 is still such a tragic waste of Bryan Cranston
Next Monsterverse movie better have equal screen time with Godzilla and Kong, because GvK and GxK are only focused on Kong. I want to see an Adam Wingard movie that is focused both on Godzilla and Kong. 50/50 screen time for both of them.
O I wish for the next solo Godzilla movie it will return to the tone of 2014
a solid design that is amazing
Please for the next monsterverse movie make the vibe like Godzilla 2014 or KOTM 😁
This was so exciting to work on. I loved how it came out.
Best movie that tone was great
Gareth Edwards should return for next monster verse film
Best movie of the monsterverse a dam classic of the 2010s!!
Honestly During the Days of Godzilla 2014 along side with Pacific Rim, Both of those Movies Are So on Top Back then with the same Tone, I miss those 2013-2014 tone
They really need to release a more brightenened blu ray version
Adam was actually talking about a Godzilla solo movie, maybe revealing Godzillas history and lore
One of my favorite Godzilla designs and movie I remember watching Godzilla 2014 in DVD with my father I watch it over and over😂 and my grandma say is that an horror movie?😂
I would seriously love to see Edwards and Dougherty return to direct. Bring Bear back while you're at it!
I think the next movie should be about Godzilla, and it should be called the son of Godzilla
Would like to see two solo Godzilla and Kong movies before another Godzilla and Kong film.
LEGENDARY STILL CARES ABT THE 2014 MOVIE????

Plz make more Godzilla movies like 2014 was. Plz bring gareth Edawards back.
Alot of people and fans want it .... tbh
2014 godzilla really embodied the original. You feared him every time he popped on screen. The destruction and chaos he brought with him was spectacular but not in the way you cheered for him but more like a helpless feeling. I hope the American versions bring back this Godzilla.
And guys, that's how the Monsterverse began.
This and Pacific rim are my two favorite gaint things fight other gaint things movies EVER
Gareth Edwards and Bear McCreary needs to make a return in the Monsterverse.

This Godzilla 2014 is my favorite version of Godzilla Legendary and is the second Movie that I watched after The Amazing Spider-Man 2
My favourite movie of the Monsterverse 🖤
one of my favorite movies and all time favorite godzillas, I will always love you garegoji
I wish they should refixed it so people would like this movie more
I still can’t believe that it came out 10 years ago
Legendary did a great job with the MonsterVerse (2017)
I’ll take this as inspiration for my blender oc kaiju film
Hope we get this sense of scale (9:13) and tone for another solo Godzilla movie. The last 3 films were a cool monster bash type movie, but I never really feel the sense of dread or horror Titans would actually cause humans to feel in that setting. Like in Godzilla x Kong, I see people running and buildings falling, and Im excited cause the fight is cool, but I dont feel bad for anyone cause I dont see the consequences or effect they have on humans. Ex: When the Muto crashes through the monorail track and all the people start falling out, thats scary.
