Hey Dan, Your perception is spot on! There are people out there that have nothing better to do than to try and scam honest and reputable businesses! Keep the videos coming!!
Yer, I fancied a joy ride /test drive in a Nissan GT-R. Turned up, un announced in my Ferrari, the guy dragged me into the car to test drive it once he saw my Ferrari. The joy ride backfired on me as i ended up buying the car the next day and kept it for 5 years.
You did a good job shutting down someone just looking for a joy ride. Really enjoy your videos and the Thursday night get together are great. Need to set an alert on my calendar to tune in.
Cash offers is something people without money think is a flex. Depending on what the investments in your portfolios bring and what you can get on short term finance, you might even come out ahead instead of pulling capital from your portfolio to buy cash. There’s a reason why those people have no money…
@@Chris-hw4mq Precisely. It's such a pour man's thing to use buying with cash as a bargaining tool. Sure cash is great if you are into tax evasion or drugs, but not really with exotics. There is also an upper limit, but that's more because at some point, it's very difficult to finance. I finance any car I buy below 500k Euro and I can do that quite well.
I think you’re spot on with this person because no questions being asked, but me, a mechanically inclined person. I am definitely going to want to drive or ride. I want to hear the engine, i want to check transmission shifts and definitely a PPI. I trust you guys, but i want verify.
If you are covering the weekday shift as fry cook at McDonald’s it isn’t that easy getting time off to go look at an exotic car, so you have to go on Sunday.
I just bought a supercar locally to me last week. I sure hope I wasn’t seen as a scammer when I was a serious buyer…it does happen occasionally. It just happened that the perfect spec showed up in my town, which NEVER happens for me. I can see being super careful from the business end, though, and I appreciate hearing how things work on that end.
my current car, i was looking for it for over 5 years, all over the states. then one day it popped up on craigslist, 20mins from my house. i bought it the next day cash in hand.
I think you do a really great job when you do your video walk around on your cars most of the time I don't have any questions about it other than I would like to see it in person once you're done. Keep up the good work Dan exclamation point
All makes sense. I never go and even look at a car unless I'm pretty sure I'm going to buy it, subject to it being what is advertised, condition, mileage, service history etc. etc. If it's not, I'd just either try and negotiate the price, or get them to tidy up some paint or whatever, or walk away - all prior to even expecting a test (even if driven by the dealer). Most dealers, once they realize everything has been discussed/agreed etc., subject to it driving properly, will take you out. Never test driven a car and not bought.
Some cars I do want test drives in. Like when I got my 328 or if I want a Testarossa. I will always want an idea of how the gear linkage and steering feels. But as you say, driving is not the first to come up. When I ask to drive something, I usually explain the exact technical reason why I want to do so. If i find that the gearbox is not in point or the like, those are grounds for renegotiation. As for the weekend thing? Can’t remember when I last saw my Ferrari dealer on a weekend if it was not for a party or event. Most people in this situation can be flexible with their time and they shop in week days.
Understand your lack of desire to give free rides but i think a lot of people who work hard in the week would prefer to shop for cars at the weekend to avoid losing a valiable vacation day. Just my opinion and to be fair i dont have a supercar.
That's true and for serious buyers we will frequently make appointments on the weekend. But now consider I'm losing my weekend time so if someone is just trying to get a joy ride and I'm losing time from my family, I'm gonna be pissed.
It’s funny how my experience selling cars on Marketplace is quite the opposite of yours. Those who wasted my time were asking a bunch of questions nonstop, and making a bunch of excuses to make offers without seeing the car. For all 4 cars I’ve sold, the buyer was always someone who would ask me 1-2 questions max then ask if they can see the car right away. Of course I wasn’t selling high-end cars, so the buyer profile is much different from yours I imagine When selling my NB Miata, I once had a guy show up to see the car, he asked me a couple questions, then when I asked if he’d like to test drive the car, he pointed to his car and said “I just bought it, I can’t afford another car right now!” THEN WHY DID YOU COME SEE A CAR YOU HAD NO INTENTION OF BUYING!!!! 😅🤬
Had a similiar ecperience to this from a buyers side, When i was in the market for my car it was over 2 hrs away. I asked a bunch of questions then was offered if I wanted to test drive the car. long story short, i bought it.
100% on the non refundable deposits... As an individual, I have probably bought and sold 30+ cars and have had to keep deposits twice. Coincidentally, they were both on BMW M3s. =)
@@normalguysupercar yeah, probably a coincidence but that always stuck in my mind of the only two times I've ever had to keep someone's deposit was on those specific cars. But all the points you made were exactly why deposits are usually non refundable.
If I was interested I would just ask if I could come on your normal day at the dealership. If the car didn't meet my expectation visually I would have no reason to ask for a test drive, simple as that.
Great thumbnail 2:07 u negotiate with someone for a week sight unseen vs 0:25 asking for a test drive possibly with a checkbook in-person. Whom do you trust actually? This is the reason I buy my exotic cars from reputable dealers such as yourself. In most cases the cars are vetted for any issues and if it's an honest dealer then they will allow a PPI as well. Granted not all dealers are honest but with social media the way it is today it's not that difficult to find out who isn't upfront. I have owned multiple Ferrari's, McLaren's and Porsche's and not once have i ever test drove one before purchasing.
On a serious note, and without putting down a deposit, what would be a good way to go about test driving a niche, or semi exotic car when shopping around? Obviously not looking to joy ride.
Good morning this is my fear when we go to sell our Ferrari 458 Spider rebuild project. Sure hope things go well. But first we need to finish the build. Last video gave you guys a shout out for the awesome videos. Will we do another build time will tell but sure love the Ferrari brand!!

It felt very different and we hardly test drive cars before we buy..even tho test drives do reveal plenty about the car, u kinda made up ur mind no matter what even before you drive a supercar, usually. I still feel bad to this day that I joy rode that car..
Eh it's all good. Bigger dealerships have much better insurance plans and it's not as much a concern for them. For us the risk is so high we have to be certain it's a legit buyer
