    Interesting fact: Daimler AG was onto constructing another record car, the T80 which should reach 650 kmh/403mph with a 3500 hp engine (yes 3thousand5hundred hp). Sadly the war broke out before the first test drives.
    Continental AG had already successfully tested newly constructed wheels up to 700kmh at that point.

    Thanks for that, some new material for me. I soak up all I can find about the racers of the mid to late 30's, Incredible engineering and very brave drivers in the total absence of any safety concerns or aerodynamic knowledge. I find myself thinking how I would change the aero to improve the cars.

    but the Koenigsegg doesn't use ice-cooling
    they use ice in competition when weather is hot but only before the race starts (they use dry-ice)

      I'm not sure and I'm no expert, but the primary reason I would think of is that it's would be too long. Even if the VR architecture is more compact than the conventional inline, a VR12 would be about the same length as an inline 8, which has eventually been abandoned for being too long and impractical. And a VR12 would be even more complex than a I8. I could maybe see the argument for a VR8 tho... maybe... As a matter of fact, VW's W16 is two banks of VR8, but I don't think they ever released a VR8 per se.

    • @tobiasdierks
      @tobiasdierks 3 месяца назад +4

      It would be extremely long, so packaging such an engine would be difficult. The torsional forces on the crankshaft would mean that it has to be very heavy in order not to break. This is the same reason why inline 8 engines have largely been phased out. On top of that, a v12 is already incredibly smooth, so there really isn't a reason to build a different 12 cylinder configuration.

    • @alrecks619
      @alrecks619 3 месяца назад

      it would be too long to be usable for most VW cars, really.

    i have a place in my heart for big 8 and 12 cylinder engines.
    be it flat 8/12, v8/12, 45°60°/90°/120°/180° bank angle, opposed piston variants like soviet tank engines, w8/12, x8/12, h8/12, i8/12 or twin inline 8/12s or in total madness multibank engines with 8/12 cylinders per bank be it 4, 5 or 6.
    vr8/12 is ok too, i just love them all.
    because a real motor like that has a soul, temperament, character, beautiful angel singing voice or growl like a lion, something that electric engines will never have and therefore suck, idgaf for ev, i hate soulless woke crap!
    the 30s and 40s were truly insane times to be a petrolhead, i love it!
    and thank god that in 2024 more and more guys and girls realize how cool cars with a real manly engine are!
    ev is dead, long live the king of the road, the majestic v12!
    imagine if we had this stupid war never happened, the 40s wouldve been pure gold!
    the mercedes benz t80 rekordwagen would have been finished, the aero improved, the db 605 been ready for use and would have done it, i dare to say that it would have the speed record till today.
    call me crazy, but since i was a little boy, i loved the roar of those metal beasts and smell of gas and petrol!
    have a nice day.

      Lmao, what a clown, coming in here nearly 100 years later applying modern technology. Spoilers and rear wings are for downforce, to go fast around corners, top speed cars don't need or want extra downforce, as it reduces the top speed massively.
