The psychology is something I struggled with at the start too, after a while, you will switch that off, the clarity will improve, both on the charts and reading them and also as your amygdala is now no longer blocking your intuition centres. Stress triggers cortisol, insulin and adrenaline, we can't 'feel' when we are in this emotional state.

This is excellent information. 23 years ago I married my Portuguese wife. I had a handful of lessons in the beginning but didn't make much progress. Over the years I have been exposed to the language regularly despite living in the UK.
I now speak Portuguese fluently to the point that sometimes people ask how long have I been in England because my accent is too English 😂 They refuse to believe I never had formal lessons. I would have been faster living in the country, so really the more exposure, the faster the learning curve...

I thought I was the only in the Internet not buying courses or subscribing to signal services. Not because I discovered the same things you talk in the video early but because I'm just cheap. Of course this forced me to learn things by myself and now I'm grateful for that. After about two and half years unbelievable hard work I'm finally becoming (consistently ?) profitable.
Btw. thanks for these videos. I like them. Refreshing to see somehow similar thinking and things that are not going with the current. And they even make me laugh every now and then.

Real Talk, this *is* one of the best videos
To be honest, a video like this needs to be watched MULTIPLE TIMES, and I don't mean on a continuous loop.
Like once every 3 days, get a few nights of sleep in between, to really let your subconcious be formed to the ideas/truths presented
One thing I have learned about learning is that, even if English is your first language, and you COMPLETELY understand (AND BELIEVE) this message being said, it is very possible that your previous learnings PREVENT YOU from carrying out these new things that you wish to follow.
Some of my best "Ah-Ha!" moments, were when I realized that a statement which I completely memorized and ABSOLUTELY believed to be true & NECESSARY in order to reach consistent trading success, STILL wasn't actually being followed within my actual trading decisions.

I disagree about the trading courses. Some people use courses as a mere stepping stone. Even if all I learned from a course was terminology, that still puts me further ahead than I was before. Which is actually quite important for developing that coveted intuition you're talking about. That intuition is built out of all kinds of information sources. Some small part of which, could actually be a course. You're right, no amount of courses will make you a master. But a good course will definitely give you a much needed leg up, so that you're further along the path to finally becoming a master.

I was starting to think I might be going crazy trying to internalize trading (it seemed logical due to how fast the market moves) as opposed to taking more notes and watching more trading videos; very tiring to do especially after a whole day of watching the real markets.

I wouldn't say trading courses are useless more like there are the little important first steps to trading, that if *legit* they give you a bit of direction. Trading course are like the little support you get from your parents when you first ride your bicycle, it assisted you and gave you the confidence to do something new and hard. Yes, most of the work comes from your own hard work, but that small push at the start is necessary.

Having started early on developing trading bots and jumping from one strategy to the next, this is blowing my mind! And it makes sense, of course! I remember my first driving lesson. Took about 2 minutes for the guy to tell me what each pedal does and how to shift gears (explicit memory) and before I knew it I was driving on the street, sweating bullets (implicit memory). I'm still very biased towards extracting rules and putting them into a bot that can not only trade, but do it in terms of passive income, even while I sleep. But then again, I might just be knocking on the wrong door. You're certainly opening my eyes to a whole different way of doing things! I'm very grateful for that!

  • @KS-bg6qs

Mate, I came to this realisation just a week or so ago too. During a webinar about a basic pullback strategy, the chap highlighted what price he would enter at and what sort of price action he was looking for to confirm entry. He knew what he was looking for and where, according to him, a low risk entry would be. That bit of the puzzle can't be taught.
I won't start trading with real money but will be dedicating at least a couple of hours everday to just looking at price action and try to develop an understanding/feeling/intuition for it.

I’m absolutely new to trading and I am very happy to have found your channel. After that video I feel like I finally know how to properly get started. There is just one missing piece for me, do you maybe have a video about proper risk management? If I develop the price intuition and have good risk management I should have all I need. • @zenoo514

Thanks for the video Iman, i like the example you give about learning to ride a bicycle. On the other hand, I don't agree that you have to throw yourself without having a minimum of basics. Trading is all about understanding the context (what is the price action doing) you have to have so much screen time that at some point reading the price action becomes like second nature (like riding a bicycle) . It's like the jazz virtuosos who improvise, but they all start at the base by learning the basics of the instrument (in our case, the basics of price actions). You can only improvise when you have a basic minimum. I advise any beginner to take an interest in the work of Mack, a former student of Al brooks (PATS) or Al brooks (but it's much more complicated and tedious, Mack has created a system that is much less complicated to master technically but which requires a LOT of screentime for price action to become second nature) It is a "system" but which is based on the context more than on this or that "pattern", in short you learn to read the language of the price (price action)Good luck everybody

Good stuff....and the same as nearly all the things i've experienced in life, or at least in this culture i can speak of -- experience over time being "sold" as a system. happens in so many domains, and captures the gaze those looking for a quick fix...and heck, sometimes distilling those years into a "system" really does work for some, for a time, though often not the way it's sold. It's more difficult to sell someone "hey do this thing over a long time" because usually that's actually free.
The weird thing about a lot of these offerings is that they do strangely "work", though many times as inspiration for the person to continue on, and as they continue, they're learning from their own experience. No substitute from just doing it yourself, over, and over, and over. Oh, and good tools do help. The more you get experience, the more you also understand and learn how certain tools really *are* useful (one example i'm thinking about TV risk/reward ratio tool which has helped me *immensely* in staying disciplined in either whether i should enter in the first place, or when to get the heck out).
I sometimes wonder if in many ways we have an unspoken agreement with one another that we really don't believe that the systems will work, but we know that we'll be better off in the end so we're okay drinking the snake oil. Or, in my case, i will "buy in" to many of these looking at them more like an apprenticeship, not a quick fix, so i'm just fine with courses, because i know that i'll use it for a time, and when i got what i've needed, move on, unless i gain a nice community from it (then i do tend to stick around a little longer:)

The faster you can accept (ego doesn't want to accept being 'wrong') that the trade is going against you and close it out ASAP for hopefully a 'small loss' the better off you will be. Then, your winners will have a chance to allow for positive days, and generally positive (Green) month over month. At least that was one of my problems when I started years ago. I agree, trading is 90% mental/emotional and 10% technical. Best To You All !

This is very good advise. I started applying the same principles of putting in the time to practice and improve my trading skills after an experience with a video game, which I found almost impossible at first but then, after 100 hours, found myself mastering it; I began to recognise the patterns and develop better awareness. Trading certainly requires more time than that, but that's what it takes to begin to understand the language and circumstance of the charts. My win rate has been improving gradually week on week, just have to grind it out.

And DTND isn’t giving away anything in his course that you aren’t hearing on his free RUclips. But as you know “housing” videos isn’t free and people have been begging him for a course just for more content. Explicit memory was useful when i learned about position sizing, risk management (which by the way also took quite a long time to implement in practice - now it's like riding a bike - i do it with full automatism) but indeed all strategies and all that crap is useless. Great video. I like your example about Day Trader Next Door, because his entries always seem sort of random combined with a gut feeling he has. Most profitable traders have been trading for 5+ years it seems.

My personal hang up, as I’ve been struggling for years, is that I don’t know how “possible” it is to become a consistently profitable day trader. What if it’s possible, but in the same way that dunking a basketball from the foul line is possible? Never give up, keep practicing! But what if I’m a sucker just chasing a RUclips mirage? Not sure if likening price action to a language is correct, it could be, idk…or it could be a different language every day, week, or month. People can go from being consistently profitable to consistently unprofitable too.

its very true. my trading indicator that i coded does not backtest well unless it is curve fit. whereas if i use the indicator in a discretionary manner i am able to extract positive expectancy. its crazy stuff

The limbic cortex is the part of the brain where it helps define if something "feels" right or wrong. It's also heavily involved in emotions... Basically, this is why intuition can often be in conflict with fear.

I agree I have been trading every day for the last year am still not consistent I kept trying to figure out what is it that can help u become successful and reality it is you ! you have to learn yourself through doing and then through journaling. I started writing down every trade I take why did I take it how did I feel what was the reasoning and review these journals this is how u find ur edge by figuring out what worked with YOU ! am still not offcourse lol

This is a great video, very important for new traders to get this message. I trade futures as well and have been for the past year and a half and it took me around a year and a couple months to be able to find any consistency. Reading price action is the most powerful trading strategy in my opinion and can be applied to every chart you will ever look at. I disagree on the part about watching videos though, I have watched hundreds of hours of Al Brooks and read one of his price action books and that is what got me on the right path of really learning and being able to see price action unfold on the charts. There is a fast track you can take, you have to have a teacher/mentor to do it. It is much harder to do by yourself because you don't know what you don't know.

Plus a master piano teacher will be able to teach someone how to play the piano much more effectively than a teacher who doesn't know how to play or having no teacher at all.

Discovering Al Brooks' price action methods helped me as well. I wouldn't exactly call it a fast track for me, but it's faster than blindly searching in the dark, which is what I was doing before I learned about price action trading.

This does seem to be the case imo, I have traded 3+ years now and only recently started seeing consistent profitability. However there is a place for tutorials, for teaching basic concepts as you said. My favourite indicator is volume BTW it's a must have imo.

If it is intuition, do you think we would all be better traders if none of us had access to candle stick patterns, technical videos, courses, strategies, etc. Then we just continuously kept trading every day just figuring it out? Is that why I feel like I’m becoming a better trader not from the books or videos but just cause I simply trade our go over charts? Love your videos thank you for you do. Happy trading :)

So should I start paper trading? do I pick one stock and watch it exclusively? should I take notes while watching stocks? (Sorry for all of the questions. This is a new idea to me, but I want to learn because it feels more natural than a course)

A beautiful video. Though I believe there is a balance to strike between "watching videos" and non-communicably internalizing price action. I guess it's similar to asking a teenager to continuously stare at PhD theses hoping that by the 100th one, he would be able to identify patterns and make sense of them.
This could work. Coming from the idea that if you give a monkey a typewrite and enough time, he could write up anything. However, as you stated initially in the video, learning the right tools to help decode the information, or present it in a new light/perspective, might help speed the process of internalizing a non-communicable language.

Goodness - I must reframe in my mind the superb info herein from "a-ha moments" to "revelation" (this, for me, is not hyperbolic) because, well, just because. I implicitly knew most of this, but what I did not have is the organization of it all.
I don't know what one would call the ability - to have the ability - to immediately assemble these facts to make them almost instantly useable - but you did an awesome job in putting it all together, so well that I didn't have to do much work at all in my own mind concerning this. Thank you.
