So true- and it’s oftentimes in the people you’d least expect. I am marrying my little brother’s best friend in 13 days. For years he was my annoying little brother’s sidekick, went totally unnoticed by me. Even my younger sister had a crush on him once, and when she told me, I was like “ew really?” Obviously that crush eventually faded... but anyway after years of being indifferent around each other, we fell in love one night. It was our first time ever spending any time alone together, we were drinking jaeger on the driveway in Florida. We were on a vacation with a group of friends (well, my siblings mostly, we are all very close), and everyone on the trip had their significant other with them. We were the only two without a boyfriend/girlfriend. Anyway, the couples all fought and went to bed and we stayed up, talking and drinking. The night ended with a drunken make out session... and the next day I remember being totally smitten. I wasn’t embarrassed or disgusted at all like I thought I would be... I actually really liked it. We continued to secretly make out and stuff for a year, then went on another trip to the beach house that officially sealed the deal. I was so apprehensive at first, he was so not my type, so out of left field... two weeks after making it “official” I finally mustered up the courage to say “I love you.” He said it right back immediately, and I knew then that I was going to marry him. I was truly in a state of shock, it is amazing to me how God’s plan and timing works out even better than we could ever imagine. He is the greatest person I have ever been in a relationship with and he has already been a “part of the family” for years. I am just feeling so blessed. I spent the majority of my life being told to suppress my emotions that lead to crying. From my parents, to older role models, the military, and anything else that stated tears equal weakness. I'm getting married in 10 days and I'm very nervous about showing my emotions in front of everyone because I know I'm going to cry. I don't even remeber how l looked the last time I cried. My husband and I were married in a beautiful park setting on Saturday July 21st 2012. I was 54 and he almost 58 at that time, my parents by my side, and as I walked towards him we both cried. This was the second time for both of us, and this time true love, I had never felt that in love feeling before. And we just celebrated 7 glorious years, and we are so happy! I never understood the phrase, “If my husband doesn’t cry I’m turning around and starting over.” Or ones that say they won’t even marry him. Like, if I was getting married, I would just be happy to be there. Not everyone cries when they are extremely happy. If my husband didn’t cry I’d be perfectly okay with it, because I’m getting married to the love of my life. We’re going to have so many moments to cry and laugh and everything else, that forcing this one would feel cheap. If he does cry, that’s totally fine too, but I wouldn’t pressure him to. I would just want him to be as happy as I am that we are getting married. However he’s able to show that is fine by me, even if it’s silent. I’m not getting married for the applause or the picture perfect moments or the gown or any of that. I’m getting married because I love someone who loves me as well, and we want to make a formal bond with it. To pressure a man to cry in order to prove his love just feels so dramatic and fake.

I never understood the phrase, “If my husband doesn’t cry I’m turning around and starting over.” Or ones that say they won’t even marry him. Like, if I was getting married, I would just be happy to be there. Not everyone cries when they are extremely happy. If my husband didn’t cry I’d be perfectly okay with it, because I’m getting married to the love of my life. We’re going to have so many moments to cry and laugh and everything else, that forcing this one would feel cheap. If he does cry, that’s totally fine too, but I wouldn’t pressure him to. I would just want him to be as happy as I am that we are getting married. However he’s able to show that is fine by me, even if it’s silent. I’m not getting married for the applause or the picture perfect moments or the gown or any of that. I’m getting married because I love someone who loves me as well, and we want to make a formal bond with it. To pressure a man to cry in order to prove his love just feels so dramatic and fake.
