VERDICT It's my view that (at current) most top-end luxury brands aren't sustainable and we're not going to know the truth any time soon as they're unlikely to share it!! BUT, if you're wanting to move towards making more sustainable fashion choices - don't throw out your fast fashion pieces or feel you can't wear your luxury goods. Personally I think that beyond buying ethically made items (and fewer items in general), being conscientious can be about cost per wear and wearing your items until there's no life left in them!
Agreed! Or consumers can source for vegan luxury brands! If more demand is created for sustainable/ethical/vegan fashion products then companies will respond accordingly. Everything is impacted by demand and supply. :)
Love I like Luxury Brands usually I bought through The Outnet because they have discount and sale products. If you want to save checkout www.theoutnetpromocode.com
Nothing excites me more than seeing fashion influencers rewear their stuff! Especially when they dress it up differently. Thank you for talking about some sustainability Sophie. :D
I agree and it’s more budget friendly!! All my luxury handbags are pre-loved. I would love Sophie’s recommendations on the best pre-loved bags under $1000.
Refreshing and important video. For too many infuencers 'buying ethical' and being a more conscientious shopper seems to mean dropping those Asos and Zara hauls... only in order to do designer/Mytheresa hauls every week. So maybe they just got richer, not more planet-friendly. Even though designer brands have an edge in material resourcing and production methods, endless buying-buying-buying of stuff a person does not need is still not a sustainable choice.
Ebe Holahan you are so right. I’m buying better quality and longer lasting fashion but also wanting a minimalistic wardrobe. I don’t know what so e of these influencers are thinking.
I'd rather spend £300 on one jacket/bag/shoe that I wear 100 days of the year, as opposed to 30 items only worn a handful of times each. I'm all about that cost per wear and investment pieces! Love your video, very insightful!
Hi Sophie, I'm so glad to have found your channel, I can listen to your voice all day. You have great advice, great sense of style and best of all you are extremely sweet and humble considering how amazingly successful you are. A true inspiration.
I remember wearing the navy Burberry coat when I was a child back in the fifties as my school coat and I hated it because I wanted a pretty red coat like my friend lol.
You’re absolutely right about buying good quality items that you don’t have to repurchase over and over again. The trench coat example: I always wanted a Burberry trench coat but at h the time the price seemed extortionate. I tried to buy fast fashion and high street versions, only to be dissatisfied. when Burberry decided to remodel their heritage line (I.e. start the tone on tone buttons, change the fabric and colours), I jumped at the opportunity to buy my dream trench coat as it was soon to be discontinued. Luckily I was able to track down a Kensington in the stone colour with the black horn buttons in the long length. I’ve been wearing it to death during spring/summer. Sometimes it’s best to wait ad save up to buy what you really like as you’ll end up wearing it more.
I LOVE BUCKET BAGS!! Those are GREAT picks!!!! Burberry trench is classic! I’ve always liked those. Digging that Gucci belt too, girrrrl! My birthday is coming up. I’m forwarding this video to my husband! *teehee* Much love to you Sophie Sho!!! ❤️❤️❤️
I'm really confused as to what you are referring to when you say ethical? I'm feeling from the video you're talking saving money and not investing fast fashion? I totally understand being mindful when buying items however for some its not even a choice. My top points would have been selecting fashion brands that promote sustainable sourced material, *which I believe you briefly mentioned* Are transparent in the working conditions of their garment factories and who promote dignity and diversity. I think people are becoming very broad when they talk about ethics...my personal opinion. Thank you for creating a video that addresses the issue and promotes healthy discussions in a world of consumerism.
Great video.. I been wanting to get the Gucci bucket bag because I love everything about it plus I love cross body bags and I can wear all year around also.. love love love your video..
Highly recommend Calvin Klein jeans particularly the shaping skinny ones , mine have been through the wash hundreds of times and still keep the shape & Colour. They also feel brand new everytime you put them on again . I think they can vary in price but mostly under £100 .
Just wanted to tell you that after seeing your Balenciago bag, which I loved, I ordered the black one and I received it today. I love it. Such a cute and casual style. Thanks for the heads up!
Hi Sophie, i have been a faithful subbie for a couple of years now. I must say i still await you content with fervent anticipation just as i have almost 3 years ago now. You bag collection is ever evolving, would it be possible for you to make a video of your updated bag collection? Thank you for all your hard work and i hope you enjoy your new LT 600.
All your choices are oh just so beautiful and as you said, not only classic but also modern and relevant right now. The topic is really important. I am trying to buy smart and really think about my purchases these days. Need to have a look at these more sustainable brands you brought up.
Hmm okay I was hoping you would have talked a bit more about which companies or brands are the most ethical. I feel like "timeless bags" isn't really on theme with "bags/brands that are ethically made" or have some other sustainability factor in the process.
Right? She didn’t talk about ethics once ... lux is not ethical unless you buy second hand. Also what’s the point of mentioning consuming less while showing three new designer bags? This title was such a misnomer - just call it Net-a-porter collab and haul
Hey guys! Thank you both for sharing your thoughts and I’m sorry that I maybe wasn’t clear enough ❤️ I did talk about brands that are ethical (but for clothes and not bags) Truth is that right now (unless I’m mistaken) none of the big handbag brands are producing ethical goods. As such, I thought I’d come at this from the angle of: if you want to buy ethical clothes you can find a selection on NAP. And if you want your designer bags, these are some methods that might help you to you find timeless pieces that you won’t be looking to upgrade in the not to distant future. Well that was the concept anyway! Have a great day guys xxxx

Hi Sophie. I wanted to know your thoughts about your new lady Dior houndstooth bag. Is it easy to style. If it wasn’t a Christmas gift would you have bought it. 😊😊😊
Just last month I was at the Burberry outlet and finally bought a Burberry trench as a birthday present for myself in Stone color above the knee length. I’ve been wanting one for years and I’m hoping it’s something that I’ll get a lot of use out of. They had a shorter length too that was very cute, but I wanted something more traditional for my first Burberry purchase.
I’ve been OBSESSED with the Gucci bucket bag since May 2019. I only hope that Gucci still carries it in Oct 2020 so I can get it as a 25th bday gift to myself!
Sophie thank you so much for addressing fast fashion! I am trying my best to avoid these as much as I can. As I learn of companies that have unethical practices I will not only stop shopping from them but I am trying to convince family and friends to avoid them as well. It can be very frustrating but I only have so much power. I realize not everyone has the budget and are enticed by the low prices. I would rather buy fewer clothing items from ethical brands than buy these throw away clothes. As I’m trying to minimalize my wardrobe as well as my home this has not been a difficult task.
Id love to see a video that says "can more luxe really bring you more happiness in life?! I have luxury items but I personally feel that I want less and less stuff, I feel that owning less and wanting less is both ethical and better for my personal happiness, and it's better for my self-esteem to have a good saving on the side. I got talked into spending £25 on a white teeshirt from Reiss because I often think "I'd love a white teeshirt under this" or for trying to do a minimalist look. I was told it will last way longer after washing than one from h&m. I hope it does because I am so sick buying accent pieces from cheap shops where they use look washed out really fast.
Hi Sophie Interesting topic. I would love to know more about companies that actually have the environment in mind when designing and producing items but in the end of the day I believe that must be rare and absent in large companies as Chanel and so on. They want to make money more than anything. Like you I used to be excited with the idea of lots of clothing pieces and now prefer to pay more and have a long lasting piece. I been buying second hand on depop! That doesn't solve the problem, there's still emissions in the transport but I think it is a step in the right direction. Enjoy your evening*
I think 'ethical' is not the right word to describe what you're trying to say tbh.. Trying to be sustainable with fashion and focussing on this is such a good thing, but buying leather in the first place is far from ethical towards animal wellbeing..
I just find when I buy a lot of clothes, bags and shoes I still only wear a few favorites in the season. I still have things with tags I haven't pulled out at all. Its a shame. Realizing i don't want to do that I've decided to only buy things I really love and stuff I'll actually wear. I hate opening my coset and feeling guilt I spent money on something that's just hanging around. Shoes too, have about 5 pairs I bought that never left the house.
Shoot, I still have & wear my Chanel flap bag circa 1980's and my Victoria Secret leather moto jacket circa 2010..they look fabulous together. We really don't throw away designer items, they are usually sold or given away. Thanks for the Net Sustain, I had no idea! XOXO
Buying second hand absolutely. Sustainable, ethical and environmentally-friendly handbag brands that are amazing (and low to mid price range) are: La Bante, Alexandra K, JW Pei, Matt & Nat, Stella McCartney (more high end)
The Burberry trench is from WW1, isn't it? The waxed gaberdine cotton resisted the rain, but breathed better than a rubberized or tar coat (and smelled better, I'm sure). No plastics back then to coat fabric with. Burberry has an interesting history.

Great 👍🏼 Great 👍🏼 vidéo, Dear Sophie! 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼💋💋💋😘😘😘
Sophie, is the Gucci a Mini? Instead of a small?
