I remember over 2 years ago when I decided to run my 2nd module ever (1st was Lost Mines) and I googled "How best to run Curse of Strahd" and I see this strange bald man giving amazing tips on running the module. I went through your vids, followed you on Patreon and implemented tons of your ideas into my game which my players loved. I never thought I'd go from there to working with you to build battlemaps for your amazing adventures! I'm honored you'd have me in one of your videos and I can't wait to see what LBH comes up with next! Thanks Steve for the adventures and looking forward to many more. Cheers!

I've been thinking a lot about maps and going in the opposite direction of high - detail. The reasoning being - sometimes I feel like if every little thing isn't displayed on a map, then the players assume it isn't there. Instead of searching and exploring in character, they're just visually looking as a player. So to get them more into character, I'd have the map very low-detail, basically just boundaries and any obstacles/large furniture if indoors. That way the description that the DM gives is coloring the view, and the players can ask questions and explore to find the deeper details.

I love using cartographers' maps in my games. Honestly, I rarely make maps of my own now because I've built up such a good collection but when I do the assets that many cartographers give out as well are super useful. Love the work that they and other D&D creators do!

I really love maps in the VTT! I think when you combine them with dynamic lighting it can make the game feel so much more real. I've had a PC run around a corner only to see a hoard of monsters, and then run off in the opposite direction. The next PC said "Oh it can't be that bad." only to round the corner, and then run off as well.

I also made the switch to virtual tabletops. My preferred tool is Owlbear Rodeo. It’s so streamlined and elegant, specifically by cutting "features" that inevitably bog the platform and UI down... If WorldAnvil can offer a similar user experience, I would totally make the jump.

Just finished my second Curse of Strahd campaign. I incorporated LBH ideas into Van Richtens Tower, Exethanter, the Brides, and a few days ago they completed the Binding of Vampyr at level 12 (While dealing with exhaustion as my next BBEG is giving them nightmares.) This was a lot more dynamic than my first campaign. Thanks LBH!

Hey LBH Guy! (I think your name might be Steve) I'm really enjoying your channel. I'm currently running my players through Curse of Strahd and your videos along with the "Raising the Stakes" guide has been extremely helpful! I've changed the names of all the characters and places so my clever players won't be looking up this campaign online and getting clues of what's to come. Not that they would do that. Well, most of them wouldn't. So instead of "Curse of Strahd" it's "Blight of Azerrad" (pronounced Azz-er-Rod). Anyways, I could really use a new Nintendo Switch! Thanks for all the great content you provide!

Hearing DM Andy talk about how he tries to make his maps “tell a story” really annoyed me because of a pet peeve of mine.
I’m a DM who enjoys creating dynamic combat encounters where positioning really matters.
I feel that a good battle map should make combat more interesting by providing tactical options such as cover, chokepoints, elevations, and flanking paths - maybe even an environmental hazard or two…
I feel that too many map designers are focused only on making their map look pretty. There’s nothing wrong with that, but they’re not designing a battle map, they’re just making art.
Artsy maps are a nice visual aid, but most battles that occur on one could just as easily be done theater of the mind without losing much.
