I was in GA at Miku Expo yesterday in DC. I've been a vocaloid fan for many years and drove across several states to see it with high expectations being that it was my first vocaloid concert. The dark rectangle of the screen was definitely a distraction. It made the vocaloids look trapped and smaller than I expected. I can't compare it to a glass projection because I haven't seen it myself, but the rectangle needs to go. Everything else was great though! Entry was really fast and organized, and no pee on the floor that I noticed.
I was also at the DC show yesterday in GA! No pee incidents yay!! I know the LED lights bordering the screen was an attempt to make the screen look better with the background, but in my opinion it just highlighted the fact that miku was trapped in a rectangle :’) I haven’t seen a vocaloid concert with the glass projection before, but I would love to see it and compare it with the LED screen. I’ve watched countless recordings of past magical mirai’s and other vocaloid concerts using the glass projection, and it looks so cool! Yesterday’s concert was still a lot of fun though!!
@@vanovox I snuck up to the right GA seated area near the Mix box and the visual perspective was great there. The seats were surprisingly empty but the groups standing behind them at the railing must have had a great show!
@@mikuhatsunegoshujin GA was ground floor but to the left and right of the Mix box there were raised platforms with reserved seats. The way upper levels of seats would have been the VIP ones.
I still remember being pissed off about the TV but it definitely does look better in person. My only gripe with the TV situation is the lack of communication going on. The only statement they ever gave was to a news outlet and they basically said, “yeah we’re gonna use the tv for the entirety of Miku expo America and Europe tour” I have other issues with the whole event, such as them announcing the LA event so late after I bought tickets for San Jose. The way they be constantly fumbling the bag makes me miss Miku Expo 2018.
I totally agree! I honestly would not have minded the LED screen if it was just communicated beforehand that it would be used. It definitely looked better in person though, but I still really want to experience a vocaloid concert with the glass projection :’)
It might be a hot take, but I just went to the concert today and sort of found the led screen to be slightly better than the hologram. There was zero glare on the screen and it looked less distorted than a glass projection and it was arguably brighter.
I just went to the concert today also!! It was amazing AHH!! Zero glare is definitely a huge plus with the LED screen. Both methods have pros and cons but the concert experience is going to be fun nevertheless :’D
Came back from nj and happi sold out first and vip did get early access to merch. Line management was pretty good, did get a bit messy closer to showtime but yeah.
I was super disappointed about the TV screen, but by the time I was able to see the show, I completely forgot to care. All my friends who went (which the most they knew about Vocaloid is Hatsune Miku is a virtual idol that's a thing) said they had a blast and didn't think the TV screen hindered their experience of Miku at all, and I forgot it was a TV because there was so many things to look at, I couldn't even notice the boarder. I thought the stage layout looked really bad from pictures, but being there in person, I actually liked the amount of color that was on stage at a time. It was the most amount of positivity I've ever felt in a single place and I ended up having the happiest moment of my life there and I wish I could experience it again. Now if only we could get light sticks. It would've been better to have them at the show, but I'd like to even get one in general. Hope they can at least do something when the shows are over. :c
Yes!! That’s what I’m hoping for! Yes, it’s disappointing that we don’t get the glass projection, but I’m sure the whole thing is going to be a blast despite it. My Miku Expo concert is coming up soon and I’m super excited!! The #1 thing that I’m disappointed about is light sticks. I was lucky to get one with the online preorder but oh my gosh I’d be so stressed out trying to get one in the merch line. I’m so disappointed for the so many people who weren’t able to get one due to their abysmal stock. I’m hoping they do more restocks online for the people who weren’t able to get the stuff they wanted in the merch line D:
In defence to the Change in technology I should provide a bit of context: Firstly It's called an led wall, and it runs over ip, but I can see why fans are mad. An LED wall is definitely a downgrade from the old back projection technique from past shows, if anything it should have improved in recent years holographic technology has improved in recent years, both thanks to recent successful start up and with the work Disney have done with some of their recent Star Wars attractions. Although I won't be surprised if both advancements can't be used ether because Disney are keeping there patterns close to there chest or in the case of the startup, whilst successful prototypes have been made they are still prototypes and are way to small. I can understand why the production company have used an LED wall, as they are a well established piece of kit, technicians know how to easily use them, most lighting hire warehouses offer them and they are easy to transport as LED wall are designed to be broken apart into small square pieces and stored in flight cases. As for the old method, its unpractical to tour around, as the screen Miku was projected on was a semi transparent piece of glass. Which is heavy, massive, can't be taken apart and because it's a thin piece of glass, fragile.
Great points! I definitely understand why an LED screen is more practical for the tour, especially since moving a huge pane of glass to so many locations is a nightmare. I just wish they had an announcement beforehand since in the past Miku expo tours, they did use the glass projection and fans purchased their tickets thinking so. Thank you for the comment! It was fun learning more about the LED wall technology
@@vanovox Well I'm gad that you value my insight, but I do agree with the lack of transparency between marketing, and the lighting designer, or back drop animators. Funny enough a RUclipsr I watch called Christian Jackson, was a Lighting Designer for the artist Louis the Child at this years Coachella. I don't know if he worked on the same stage as Miku, but if he did he might have some official insight into why. Luckily enough Christian Jackson actually decided to vlog the entire process of the Louis the Child concert on RUclips, in a 3 part series. Part 1 & 2 covered the planning ,rehearsal and setup process, part 3 is the live show which is yet to be released.
Great video, I went to the Miku Expo in Denver! I tried to get a light stick for my girlfriend but they were sold out within the first 30 minutes... and the merch stand opened several hours before VIP was let in. The lady at the stand said they had only gotten 90 light sticks total. Luckily I had a light stick from 2018 but disappointed that I couldn't get one this year for partner 😭 I really liked the designs they came out with this year too Anyways, if anyone who's reading this is going to one of these concert, I wish you luck and advice showing up extra early if you want any light sticks/merch.
OH WOW 90 LIGHTSTICKS??? I saw someone say that on twitter but I didn’t believe they’d only have THAT FEW! D: I know some venues, when it’s raining, they only sell merch inside, so when VIP goes in with their early admission, only they can get light sticks before it sells out. Horrible management of stock 😭 I hope everyone still has a fun time with or without light sticks though! Vibing with vocaloid fans is so much fun!!
I went to two shows, first show as vip, second as ga, when I tell you, the screen is AMAZING, the quality of the characters look amazing, realistic even. Literally the only reason why there was hate it’s cause it’s just the loudest, radical people online. I hope you enjoyed the show though cause I legit would do ANYTHING to relive that weekend 😭
The screen was high quality but people have every right to be mad. The hologram is synonymous with vocaloid concerts and we all expected the hologram. They advertised the hologram and made no effort to tell people it would be a screen before they spent hundreds of dollars.
No fam, the screen is not amazing and it's not a 'radical vocal minority' causing a stink. The issue here is literal false advertising and quite literally scamming the American fans. You go to a Miku concert expecting the hologram performance, and that's what Miku Expo 2024 and Crunchy roll banked on. They gave the fans no advanced notice that, not only would Miku be an LED screen (and a very poorly implemented one at that,) but that there would be limited merch, limited light sticks, VIP buyers not getting early venue access or seating, and finally hiring a cheaper band than the original Japanese band members that used to always do these concerts. Over in Japan they had a Miku fest concert for her birthday, did up the LED screen WAY better than Miku Expo's, and the Japanese fans still hated it and were given FULL REFUNDS. Tickets in my area for the Austin concert were trading hand for well over $500 when the venues were accounted but once those first few concerts happened and everybody realised it was an LED crap screen and NOT the hologram Hatsune Miku concerts have literally been KNOWN for for over two decades, those same tickets were now selling for under $20. Don't even get me started on some tickets in other venues selling for $1. I very nearly impulse bought a $500 ticket but I stopped myself because I did not trust crunchy roll. Case in point, Crunchy roll f*cked over the American fans with Miku Expo 2024. They slashed the budgets across the board and intentionally misled the fans. Whether or not YOU enjoyed the LED screen is besides the point. People took vacation time, booked hotels, airline tickets, merch, all of these things to come see what they believed would be hologram Miku only to be greeted with not only the LED screen, but a lackluster experience with merch and even glow sticks and the whole nine. The entire event felt like it was put together on a shoestring budget.
@@jaylinmoseley3910 your other criticisms are valid but I won't stand for slander against the band. Touring bands change all the time, that's just the nature of concert tours. The 2014 North America tour had an almost completely different band from the one that did 2016 and 2018, and the other Expo tours around the world have had differences in their lineups over the years. This band poured their hearts into the show and gave an incredible performance and they deserve the same respect that the past Expo bands have received.
