    Barbara, Thank you for so generously sharing your expertise. I really like this way of starting a head-- it helps clarify the skull shape. I do have a couple questions. I am a complete newbie to polymer clay, been doing this less than 2 weeks, so I am just in the trial and error/experimental stage. I have been a draftsman and painter for years, doing mostly figures, , but I have long wanted to give sculpting a try, just for fun, so I chose to start with a fairly small figure. I can get the head going, and it's starts to look almost decent, but then I lose the shape of the skull as I work, and the clay gets softer. Also I am not sure how large the armature should be in relation to the " ball " of the head. I saw in one of your tutorials that you sculpt some faces separately and then attached to a pre-bake"d head, but am not sure if that would work for a very small head. What would you suggest? I am also in process of collecting the right tools --- I think I need some wooden ones like yours as well.

      For your armature I start with the head. The head will start your size of body. Just to give you an example if my head measured 3". The body would be seven heads. Polymer clay has problems with getting to soft for some. I would highly suggest having a hard core. Then apply 1/4" thick clay around the ball. This will help keep it symmetrical .

    Thank you so very much for this tutorial, it was of great help. I have been following your other tutorials on sculpting the nose, mouth and eyes, but I cannot find 3/4 and 4/4 for the eyes and the mouth ended early. Where do I go to find all of these and do you have a tutorial on attaching them to the head?

    • @fairysnmypond
      @fairysnmypond  7 лет назад

      The doll I'm blogging is going to show you how I attach the head. Are you following the blog Im doing? If so I show by using a straw to start the eye. As for the nose and month Im sorry to say but I had already had the doll started so I jumped in after. I will be blogging every doll I make now. The whole purpose of me blogging is for all to keep viewing how I do things. As you practice then if you still have problems by people letting me know I then can focus on the problems and make videos for all of you. A lot more videos will be coming and I will go through explaining more with the nose and mouth. You might also check out the video I did with the commission one. That one there I explain the nose and mouth. Maybe that can help until I start a new blog with another doll. Thank you for letting me know of what your wanting.

    im so stumped on the head. Do you use hooks in the cap to attach it to the neck? or whats your method. can't seem to find my answers! But this video is amazing thank you :]

    • @fairysnmypond
      @fairysnmypond  7 лет назад

      You can hook it to the cap but you also can hook it from the neck. In the neck remember you the ball. The cord will only come up through the neck and ball. The cap is then done with little magnets. I choose this way only because I feel there is to much of a force on the clay inside of the cap where some will put a hook. It just all depends what you like and if you choose to put a hook on the cap then really reinforce it with something strong. Hope this has helped.

    • @jessicaavidor7473
      @jessicaavidor7473 7 лет назад

      hmm yes I'm still a little confused, So, after the head is sculpted and dried, is the ball attached to the cap or floating in the head?Thank you again

    • @fairysnmypond
      @fairysnmypond  7 лет назад

      Im working with polymer clay which is baked. If using air dried clay it would still pertain the same. The ball sits right on top of the opening of the neck. You can also sculpt the ball right into the neck and from there the ball will set inside of the hollow head. Then the ball isn't floating or even separate from the neck either. Hope that helps more.

    • @jessicaavidor7473
      @jessicaavidor7473 7 лет назад

      yes that is what i pictured, and exactly what I'm trying to do but wouldn't the head be easily removed in order for the ball to fit in the neck? I'm just having trouble understanding how to get the neck with the ball on it into the head. -_- I've been on this for a couple weeks and just can't seem to get it lol

    • @jessicaavidor7473
      @jessicaavidor7473 7 лет назад

      what I'm picturing is the same way you would with silicone but the i don't think the clay will "pop" in the same way

    How many clay does it come in that package? and how big it your doll supose to be?

    • @fairysnmypond
      @fairysnmypond  7 лет назад

      In single packages they are 2oz.(56g) Here is how my scale works for me but do keep this in mind. We all sculpt differently so my amount may not apply to someone else's. I
      When using 2oz. packages
      13c (2packages)
      30c (4packages) These two sizes here wouldn't be including for any waist or corrections.
      Then there is the armature core. Have you watched my blogging sculpting my new doll? If not it might be helpful on showing you by using 1/4" thick clay to start out building the body.

      Puppen Fimo comes in 500grams (1lb) Type it in your google search and you will see the prices. Shop around some can be higher.

    One thing I'm worried about using wax is wondering if it inhibits painting the doll after? Does it melt onto the skin of the doll and cause a film there?

    • @fairysnmypond
      @fairysnmypond  7 лет назад

      Your polymer clay is oil base. You can use water color paints but I personally find using an oil base paint give it a finished porcelain look. I never have any problem with either oil paints or acrylic when using wax. Before you paint if using acrylic wipe down your doll with just rubbing alcohol. I have never experienced the wax melting and leaving a residue or a film. I would suggest trying on a piece of clay and you will see the affect.
