  • South Carolina vs Clemson was one of the headline games in College Football's week 13, and on Late Kick Live Ep 333 Josh Pate spoke about the way Shane Beamer and the Gamecocks secured yet another upset victory - this time over Dabo Swinney and the Tigers. This rivalry had been very lopsided lately with Clemson dominating, but South Carolina found a way through elite special teams play to get the job done and significantly limit the Tiger offense. Will things begin shifting long-term in the Palmetto State? Hoe big was this win for recruiting? Best explanation I think is this: South Carolina hasn't actually been all that inconsistent. They gradually built an identity with Lloyd as the feature and then had to suddenly reinvent themselves when he (and CBS) got injured, eventually landing on a more streamlined, aggressive package that plays to Rattler's strengths.

    • @trapgodrando2287
      @trapgodrando2287 Год назад +9

      Also seems like Rattler has settled in behind the o line more and has been more willing to throw from inside the pocket. Earlier this year he was scrambling out of the pocket when not pressured and limited his options downfield when doing so. Hope to see him continue to progress.

    Nothing feels better than knocking Dabo off his high horse. The Tennessee game was obviously historic and an absolutely ridiculous game, but the cfb rivalry in SC runs deep. I bet it is by far the highest grossing event in SC year by year as we dont have a professional team of any sport. I knew we had the pieces and coaching to go far and compete with big teams, I'm happy that everything clicked in the end to beat the playoff pretenders.

We were bowl eligible watching our selection game get closer and closer to pre-Christmas. Then after the Tennessee surprise, we were all afraid of the typical emotional let-down the following week that usually happens. But they defied ALL odds and made believers of us all. Now though, it seems it is finally coming together into a more consistent program.

    The reason for the turnaround on offense is the change in play calling (Beamer). Look at the formations USC has been running on offense. Spread offense trips it's kind of like they run in the BIG 12. Spencer finally was finally comfortable. He was so confused along with others all season until the Tenn game. Beamer obviously has been calling this new offensive play selection. He has opened the Oklahoma-style plays for Spencer Rattler. USC will get a new OC next year.

    • @xdgaming70

    • @gamecokben

      Yeah. When your QB says "we didn't know what we were supposed to be doing," something has gone very wrong. I don't know if Beamer called every play but he definitely took the keys away from Satt to do everything. I don't think it's a coincidence he's leaving for Rhule - Nebraska is a much worse job at this point for him than we are. I think Shane was publicly supporting him while privately telling him to put his feelers out there. Satterfield was a rush hire after the Bobo debacle, so I'm very glad that coach gets his time now to hire who he really wants. I hope this new Rattler stays one more year because if he does, we could legitimately compete for the East of the new OC uses him properly.

    Josh Pate, lifetime gamecock here. Born and bred. To answer your question is simple. It's what we do. We are mediocre at best. I love my Gamecocks but it is what it is. They refuse to open the check book and make a good buy. Not Beamer, we all love Beamer. Beamer is protected. We probably will never be national champ contenders and I have come to understand that, but that does not in anyway mean that we can not ruin the other sides hopes and dreams also. So in the easiest way I can answer your question is simply this. It's what we do. And I loved your episode when you went to Williams-Brice Stadium. We out played in all 3 phases, not just special teams. The score didn't do us justice on how well we actually played. Us losing Satterfield today has me questioning the bowl game because, yes it took him all year to figure out the offense but in the end he definitely figured out something. Toward the middle of the year last year we didn't even know if we'd be bowl elligible but then we beat favored Fla. and Auborn. No great feat but it got us into a bowl and we won. This year we were possibly not going to be bowl elligible early on but then when we won against A&M and Kentucky. Now we started to feel OK somethings in the air, we may do pretty good and get a decent bowl game after-all. But then we lost to Mizzu & Fla. and our hopes of going to something other than the 'New Era Pinstripe Bowl or the Cactus Bowl bowl, was dashed again because orange wave was ahead of us and that we thought was two losses more losses and then we'd be 6 & 6. However nobody expected us to win Tenn. & Clemson but we did! Now I dont care what bowl we go but what I'd LUV to see is USC to play & beat Oklahoma in some bowl and I bet you know why!!!

    As a Clemson fan, this one stings. Really could have lost any other game. Gotta give it to South Carolina though, they showed up yesterday. So, what's next for Clemson you ask? 1. Replace DJ with Kade! I'm sure he's a great kid, but he has been at the top of our issues for the past 2 seasons. 2. Work on holding on to the football!! 3. Streeter needs to go.

    Gamecock fan here, so I'm conceding that I'm biased, but Dabo's aforementioned stubbornness and fixation on proven loyalty is why he's in this boat. That's why he doesn't like the portal - if they didn't want him to begin with, why should he want them now? That's why he doesn't like NIL - if they are here for something other than just playing for him, he doesn't like it. And that's why he promoted from within for his offensive staff despite having an offense last year year that ranked in the 80's to 100's in every category that matters, because he wants people who have demonstrated loyalty to him. The last time Dabo took a "risk" was when he brought in Venables (though admittedly it wasn't a risk given the track record, it was just a risk because he was an outside personality) and it took an absolute humiliation by WVU to get him to do that. Dabo's stubbornness isn't what you said you'd be like - it's an absolute fixation on the idea that he, and only he, is right about anything.
    My pop psychology take on the whole thing is that Dabo sees his personal path and thinks that it's the only right way to do things. He was an assistant coach who got pulled up from within a system, so maybe he's paying it forward, maybe he's going with what he knew worked for him, or maybe he just likes the leverage that "creating opportunities" gives him over people. But I don't believe that he has the sense to keep his mouth shut to not give others the satisfaction, because he constantly runs his mouth in ways that end up biting him down the line. He sees that "his way" has been successful, so he refuses to change his approach, while refusing to admit that his way was so successful because he was fortunate enough to have back to back generational talents at QB. Changing his approach would be a public admission that he doesn't have all the answers, and I legitimately don't believe his ego is capable of allowing him to do that. Remember, this is the guy that not only "runs down the hill" first at their home games, but leaves his players 50 yards in the dust. He thinks it's all about him, and he'll continue to think it's all about him until it crumbles around him. For his sake, I certainly hope he has the humility to change, but I just honestly don't see that happening. They'll continue to be successful for the next several years, but soon enough NC State, FSU, UNC, and maybe even Miami will leave them in the dust if he won't swallow his pride.

    We all knew the sun was setting on the Clemson run and it's only going to get worse after they lose all that talent on the defensive line. They're 9th in recruiting and that ain't cuttin it if you want to win a natty in my opinion. They had a couple generational QBs, but it's over now and they'll go back to being what they were for the majority of the 30 years prior. 8-4 and 9-3 will be the new norm in Clemson and Dabo is stubborn, so he won't embrace the recruiting portal or change the way he recruits which will drag the program down in my opinion.
