    I always wondered why bikes don't come with intergraded locks like the bikes in the Netherlands. They won't stop theft on its own but are useful for quick lock ups. Adding to that tho I'd love to see intergraded gps too.

      I've heard them called 'dutch locks'. I'm not sure why they're not more popular here. I didn't mention this in the video, but Aspadz said they were working on lock for the bike that works through an app. We'll see how that goes.

      Not recommended. The reason we don't use speed set is because the RC (distance between bb to freewheel) is very long for this kind of minibike, when you use throttle driving at high speed, the chain will shake to scratch painting and make noise, sometimes the chain can lose tense as well

      I understand your concern, it's tough to throw money into an unknown product you can't see or touch.
      It makes no difference to me weather you buy one or not, but for what it's worth; I'm completely confident the main parts of the Aspadz would last about 10,000 miles with appropriate maintenance. My one concern is the seat, that might need to be replaced from a lot of wear, considering the riders' weight is always on it. The seat is peculiar too, bike stores won't have a replacement. But, it's a simple part to ship, so maybe Aspadz would send one after the bike gets healthy use. I dunno...

    What state is it legally an electric bicycle (ebike)? It has a throttle and top speed of 28 mph. Clearly not a class 1, 2 or 3. Legally it's an ORV. Not legal on road or path in any state in the US or anywhere in Canada.

    • @HD-J.R.

      @@BlueMonkeyBicycles class 3 bikes aren't allowed throttle in any way. I've worked for years getting ebike access to trails and cycling infrastructure and these style of ebikes are the biggest hurdle in getting acceptance. Land managers, regulators, legislators and law enforcement go to RUclips and forums to learn about ebikes too.
      Our small group has had several successes in a couple of states, but these mini bikes and mopeds are the biggest problem in gaining acceptance. The videos hurt the most. We can't fight the regulations and our own side at the same time.

      Class 1 electric bicycle: A bicycle equipped with a motor that provides assistance only when the rider is pedaling, and that ceases to provide assistance when the bicycle reaches the speed of 20 miles per hour.
      Class 2 electric bicycle:
      A bicycle equipped with a motor that may be used exclusively to propel the bicycle, and that is not capable of providing assistance when the bicycle reaches the speed of 20 miles per hour.
      Class 3 electric bicycle: A bicycle equipped with a motor that provides assistance only when the rider is pedaling, and that ceases to provide assistance when the bicycle reaches the speed of 28 miles per hour and is equipped with a speedometer.

      I know sellers will say a 20 mph throttle is legal on Class 3, but it is not. Mikey, I've been watching your videos for as long as Blue Monkey has existed, in both iterations. I watched your contributions on EBR and interacted with you in the past. These bikes are not legal on any cycling infrastructure or trails, other than motor vehicle trails and private land. They hurt the cause and so do videos that show on road use.
      Respectfully,
      JR

      Thanks for your support. While I've got you; what's your organization, and where can I find some materials on the wide spread laws? Sometime is like to tackle the whole issue in a video essay. I know a lot of states copy/pasted california's class system. Personally, I don't like the class system...
      I talked with a guy who helped write the Utah a couple years ago. He told me throttle to 28 was still fine.

    • @HD-J.R.
      @HD-J.R. 3 года назад

      @@BlueMonkeyBicycles We are just a group of ebike riders working on opening up public lands in PA and MD. Speaking of bill writers, I publically debated the unelected writer of the PA state law of 2014 that legalized ebikes for road use. He had grave warnings about trail use. He was against us. We won that fight.
      When one talks to legislators and land managers they will tell you class 3 has never allowed throttles. Class 1 and 3 are almost identical in the way they are written; the only difference is top speed and 3 is required to have a speedometer. If 3 allowed throttle than why not 1? No state I'm aware of allows a throttle on class 3. People for Bikes (and BPSA), along with BRAIN make it clear throttles are only allowed on class 2.
      There's little that I like about the Class Laws. PFB and BPSA gave us this law and put a lot of money into lobbying for it. When we asked for assistance from PFB for off road paths and trail use, they told us they didn't have the resources for that. They only lobby for the Class Law and road use.
      Land managers and the park's law enforcement are comprising lists of brands and styles of ebikes that are likely illegal. It's a database that will likely be available to all law enforcement one day. Enforcement has started sporadically across the country. Its ramping up.
      The biggest reason I dislike the 3 Class Law is it allows targeted regulations. It makes it easy to outlaw throttles and many older riders feel they need a throttle. The other thing I don't like is it divides us. Pedelecs vs throttles.
      The most difficult question I've gotten is how to tell the difference between a legal ebike and an illegal ebike. Some think the easiest thing to do is just ban them all. And when they bring up all the RUclips videos featuring fast ebikes, I have a hard time explaining.

The ebike market is full of to many Diy people that know realistically that bike is going to be under powered for the cost. It looks good and has quality parts but majority of the buyers will end up dumping 1k in add ons into it trying get a 40-50mph at least 30mile commuter. Now for the first intro to ebiking $1500 is good for this but spec wise this is a pieced together $800 bike max.

      @BlueMonkeyBicycles  3 года назад

      A lot of folks in the diy/hotrod crowd seek 30+ mph. A lot of folks transfer over after their first store bought eBike too.
      Personally, I'm not too fond of fast eBikes. I built a conversion that did 50mph on the flat, and I wound up not liking that feeling. The system could have done more, but that was a scary thought. I'm all for it on a motorcycle platform, but the existing bicycle components, design and biome simply don't support that kind of use. The brakes are designed for a lighter weight, and lower speed application, the bicycle design is overtly top-heavy, and no one in their car can reasonably expect the guy in the bike lane to out run them. The risk is very high. Conversions have their pro/cons but, in my opinion, daily driving speeds over ~30-35 should be discouraged in a commuting setting.
      Just to cover my bases: I use the word "discouraged", not "forbidden". I believe the right of the people to ride eBikes should not be infringed.
