People ask me what I like about Ken. This video is eveything I love about the character. Risk and reward. Crazy combos with precise inputs. This character is just fun.
I’m surprised how rare jab -> jab -> heavy input Shoryuken is It’s broken it starts killing between 70ish to 85ish depending on weight and it’s inescapable and jab is so fast and safe

?? He is solid high tier, the only reason he is not played more often is because it is kinda hard, but it hasnt got any impossible matchup and it is completly viable.
Flamingpaper They are much easier than people think, the main reason people find them hard is the command input stuff and the different kinds of jabs, tilts etc. But it takes less than 10 hours to get fully used to it, it isn't that hard, I promise
As someone who plays against a ken player almost every day, just DI out and down when you get in a SHORYUKEN, if im not mistaking it, i just try to remember the muscle memory i do when getting hit by it
The only useful thing that the new patch gave him is attention Ken was always this good right after the first time he got buffed witch was like 3.0 or sometime early like that
It sucks because I prefer Ryu, but he's not as flashy so people don't really care about him. He's still hard to play, but because he requires more patience and zoning than Ken, and people consider patience/zoning to be "boring", even though it takes a lot of skill.

Most people mistake this for "spamming", but there's a lot of strategy that's required. I don't find that boring at all.

You also hear people call zoners "cowards" which makes no sense. Why would you not play to your character's strengths like you're supposed to? Gameplay-wise, Ryu focuses a lot more on strong single hits, e.g. his Side Special is a kill move at high percents, whereas Ken focuses primarily on multi-hits and clearing stocks with either Up-Special, Down Air or some well placed smash attacks - but Up-Special feels like the most consistent way to kill with Ken. Additionally, Ryu's hidden input for a flaming Hadoken is replaced with the Izuma kick (which can easily break shields) on Ken. The only exception from the above is the Up-Air, which is a single hit for Ken and a multi-hit for Ryu, which Ryu can easier cancel into special moves. Guess a real Ken expert can explain the differences better or name other differences, these are the ones I noticed in my few games with them.
Zarryxan has it about right. Ken has more combos and more consistant shield break setups. Ryu is more focused on getting damage with short combos and his better projectile game.
Hi friends, could some main ken help me with a small problem? Why when i try to do both the oosoto mawashi geri and nata otoshi geri those inputs always fail? (Ken don't execute thems) even when I make sure that I am executing them correctly. Should I lower the sensitivity of my joystick to "Low" that would help me in something?
Though I'm not a Ken main, I noticed that the command inputs fail quite often if executed too late. E.g. if I attempt to do the Izuma kick out of a jab, I often end up with Ken finishing the jab attacks without the command input. If I recognize to input it early enough though, it executes after the second jab. I can't say much about the joystick sensitivity, I'm playing with medium settings and get most of the commands executed. Hope that helps at least a little bit :)

There is a specific window that the input must fully be completely during to cancel. The joystick motion must start and end within the window. Starting too early or ending too late are common problems.
I find every JV4 super impressive. As general it's because the opponent themselves aren't that good. Even I have gotten a couple JV4s and I'm pretty mediocre at smash. Granted, one time didn't really count as I used Ness' down-B in the match, but still.
ken is sick in this game tbh. gotta say tho, inputs on an analog stick with this shitty buffer system makes me want to die sometimes ngl. as someone who plays multiple other fighting games smash is just the fucking worst with inputs. just let me use the fucking Dpad for movement and directional inputs since i cant taunt anyways.
