    I thoroughly appreciate you doing the teardown and applying new thermal paste before you run the benchmarks. It's honestly best practice and sets a good example for other retroactive hardware review channels. Thermal paste dries out over time and becomes increasingly less effective, so just replacing it at the start saves you some risk of the GPU dying during testing.

    If you're looking for another "semi-modern" title that supports Crossfire/SLI, Check out Destiny 2 (free to play on Steam).
    When Destiny 2 launched, I tried playing it on my single GTX 780 at 2560x1600 and was not happy. Against my better judgement, I bought a second 780 and set up SLI. I thought that the "micro-stutter" wouldn't bother me, I was wrong. It was 2018 by then and the crypto-mining boom was in full swing. Since a GTX 1080 Ti and Titan Xp were going for the same price, I bought the Titan. And yes, it ran D2 very nicely.

    I did own the GTX 690 for a short while in 2020. I think it is a beautiful looking card and it feels very premium. However it was too noisy for me. I bought it for 500 SEK (roughly €50) and ended up selling it for 690 SEK because I thought it was fitting to sell a 690 for 690. Sometimes I do regret selling it as it isn’t easy to come by here and I’ve only seen it on sale once or twice since then.

    It should be noted, the GTX 690 is not the last dual GPU to be designed by Nvidia. The Titan Z released in 2014 and had two chips each with 2880 cores and 6GB of VRAM, and was also based on the Kepler architecture. The Titan Z is essentially two GTX 780 TI's with twice as much VRAM.

    got one refurbished for 299$ back in the day man it served me well being able to crank up most games to the max enjoyed so many PVE titles on that bad boy. While in most cases where CFX was not supported or multiplayer games i enjoyed the MOST of the 7870 ghz performance it offered. Sadly path of exile on max settings killed my gpu too many hours afk/in hideout with effects i never noticed until i ran the riva tuner/afterburner in POE to check my temps...by then it was too late. In most cases youll fry this gpu pumping MORE watts than a typical 7870 ghz edition would endure...in games like POE, Diablo2 reborn, various new gen MMOs. Though it sure was nice enabling virtual super resolution for games like fallout4 when it was hot, or maxing out witcher 3 at launch...other than hairworks XD. Upgrading from a 560ti FPB to the 7990 in BF3 Was pretty astonishing to play it maxed out, it was the game that inspired the sandy bridge 560ti build GTA4 actually worked among others you typically had to switch the scalars in CCC idk if adrenaline even offers ideal support these days for a 7990. In most PVE titles there were ways of getting the CFX to perform or scalar settings or custom settings you could find on forums as a last ditch. It was a really good card for GRID/DIRT/Hitman/bioshocks etc so many pve titles or single player type games. I ultimately went with the used/older 7990 compared to a 780ti bc i was already looking at 780ti sli performance numbers and figured for 300$ it wasnt bad..and this was just when NVIDIA started fiddling with their monopoly...if i remember correctly 650ti boost GTX's in SLI were out performing a single 680ti...for fractions of the cost.....which led to 750ti not scaling remotely the same in sli towards a 780ti...and subsequent lack of scaling/support onward into nvidias generations...when the 650ti boost in sli...set a HIGHWATER benchmark for sli/value scaling. out peformign a 680ti which cost more.

      Hello mate! Thanks for sharing, love reading about your experience, My first "Ti" card used was the GTX 980. I always wanted the 780Ti but could not justify the cost, ended up getting GTX 770 lol! The power/cost ratio was not in favour of the top end models, but then, things we do...haha!

      @luisfrancisco2533 2 года назад +3

      No solo es la vram, le gana ademas en APIs como Vulkan (version 1.1 en nvidia, 1.2 amd), DX12 (11_0 nvidia y 11_1 amd) y un problema de arquitectura que tiene especificamente Kepler con respecto a los SMX, cada modulo tiene 192 nucleos cuda pero solo 128 hilos para ponerlos a trabajar, cuando salio esto se optimizaba por parte de los desarrolladores para obtener ese rendimiento de manera "manual" pero a medida que pasaron las generaciones de gpus y motores ese tercio extra de rendimiento no se utiliza actualmente, por eso una 1050ti actualmente se puede pelear o ganar contra una 780ti en juegos nuevos cuando esta ultima todavia daba batalla contra la gtx 970

    People like to attribute fine wine to AMD's drivers getting better and there is some truth to that. There is also the fact that the console's ran on AMD hardware and thus matched AMDs GPU feature set. Every single optimization was used for console games and this generally made its way to the Desktop in ported titles. I prefer AMD hardware because I'm an enthusiast and AMD hardware lasts longer. nVIDIA hardware is best if you want a PC with the current latest and greatest but best to sell those cards off once the new models arrive.

    Gtx 690 looks amazing even today!
    It has that premium feeling (and backplate would have been nice).
    Too bad Nvidia just gave Gtx 690 2Gb of Vram. 4Gb would make Gtx 690 feels more comfortable in future titles considering it hefty price at launch.
