- Eleanor Of Aquitaine, a story of the most revered woman of the middle ages. A duchess in her own right with power and influence. Her life was long and at times fraught with danger. Eleanor would gain the crown and go on to become Queen of France and later England with Henry II. She was one of the most prominent women in history. Eleanor of Aquitaine was a formidable woman; her leadership, political awareness and strength of character would hold her in good stead. She was part of the crusade to the holy land. Yet, enhanced the grandeur of her birth by the honesty of her life, the purity of her morals, the flower of her virtues, and in the conduct of her blameless life, she surpassed almost all the queens of the world.

More medieval history? Elizabeth of York and Henry Tudor! Watch this next ▶ ruclips.net/video/0SZLiBwIKTg/видео.html
I discovered Eleanor from seeing Katherine Hepburn portray her in "The Lion in Winter" as a young man. She is one of the most fascinating characters from history. I read ravenously about her after seeing the movie and you did her justice. Thank you
Thanks Winfred, glad you enjoyed her story 😊
Katherine portrayed her magnificently in The Lion in Winter
Same here. The performance given my Hepburn and Peter O'Tole is what triggered my now deep study of the entire Plantanget Dynasty! This history is much more entertaining than "Game of Thrones" or similar shows. Now I've dived deep into the Tudors after studies of The War of the Roses. These people were cut throat to maintain power.
Thank you sir. You really bring all this characters to life. Eleanor was an incredible woman. I heard STARZ is working on a series about her life. I hope they do her justice.
Thanks Leticia, enjoy the rest of your week 😊
Fingers crossed 🤞😊🤞
One of my favorite women in history. Thanks for such an informative post.
Glad you enjoyed it Mary Ann, enjoy your weekend 😊
Superbly summed up Eleanor's life Jon, she was indeed a beautiful, very Inteligent lady, thank you.
Thanks Robert, glad you enjoyed it. Have a great week 😊
Thank you Jon, hope you have a great week to. 😊
Eleanor is one of my favorite medieval queens. Queen of France, then Queen of England, and an international diplomat. She was a 21st-century woman a thousand years before the 21st century.
Henry II's mother, Empress Matilda is another fascinating woman who would make a great video.
Thanks for watching 😊
Agreed 💯
What a life she led! An amazing woman and a wonderful little doc. Well done, as always.
Thank you kindly Ann, always appreciative 😊
I just happened upon this video while browsing through RUclips. I am glad I did. I have hit the "Subscribe" button. Thank you for this I have always been fascinated by Eleanor of the Aquitaine. She was an amazing woman. You present the information clearly and concisely. Guilty admission: When I think of Eleanor I can't help but see Katherine Hepburn in "A Lion in Winter!"
Awesome! Thank you Celeste, have a great weekend 😊
Would love to see a series or movie devoted to her
Agreed, it's shocking how little she is portrayed onscreen. Such a fascinating life, just as interesting as The Tudors
@@Shane-Flanagan Far more, says this passionate Plantagenet lover!:)
@@susanmccormick6022 How do you mean?
@@Shane-Flanagan I am a Ricardian & like learning about the Plantagenet dynesty & also the Stuart's.The Tudors r not my fave era.
Another fantastic history lesson. I’m off to do some more research on this remarkable lady!
Thanks Charlotte, glad you enjoyed the story 😊
I’ve always admired Eleanor, she was a giant of a woman for her time. Rosa und was said to be very beautiful, that first portrait did certainly not flatter her! Maybe it was Eleanor who paid the painter. Thank you, really enjoyed it. I think Matilda, William the conquerors wife would be an interesting woman 🇦🇺🇦🇺🇦🇺🇦🇺
No one knows what Eleanor looked like either. There's certainly some artistic licence in all the images. Thanks for watching 😊
There is no real likeness existing. Not until Tudor times were portraits of monarchs taken seriously. In Eleanors time they just looked like squiggley drawings
Oh one of my favorites! Thank you!
You're so welcome! Have a great day 😊
One of my favorite Queens, the mother of all Kings
Thanks Arlene 😊
@@HistoryRoadshow With pleasure ..
I thoroughly enjoyed this piece of history brought to life Sir. Keep it going, Thank you !!
Thanks, will do Viviana, enjoy the rest of your day 😊
You have done real justice for this most interesting, in every way possible, and colorful, to put it mildly, woman Eleanor of Aquitaine! Well done indeed again! Thank you! The best video yet!
Wow, thank you Cassandra, so pleased you enjoyed it 😊
Oh yay, this was one of my recommendations! Thank you so much, Eleanor was such a fascinating woman. You have such a perfect voice for this type of content, it's a pleasure to listen to while I'm on a drive!
Glad you enjoyed it Kathryn 😊
Good summing up of Eleanor's long eventful life Jon. No easy task but your efforts are very much appreciated by me and by others too as evident in the comments and high viewer numbers etc. This popular well known choice seems to have been a hit. Well done 👍👏
Queen of the World! Great video title, very apt. A worldly woman who was more than just another Queen Consort.
A remarkable woman who thrived in a man's world. Eleanor is often remembered as the wife and mother of Kings instead of the woman she was. She too has often been unfairly villified as a she-wolve for her success and for some of her decisions and actions be they fact or fiction. I found her support of her son's rebellion understandle. Henry II was a bullish and selfish man unwilling to share power and responsibility with his sons. A 12th century Henry VIII.
Most would spend their last years winding down and relaxing but not Eleanor who remained active and even outlived the majority of her children. She still had to deal with the dramas at home and abroad and in the lives of her children and grandchildren. How a elderly woman could cross the Alps to Navarre and travel elsewhere to places like Castile in all kinds of weather and terrain I'll never know!
It surprises me how little she has been portrayed onscreen. Such a historical figure deserves to be the title figure of a film or series. Just as interesting as those from the Tudor era.
Thanks again Jon 😁🙏
It's a remarkable story Shane, and one worth telling. She lived a full life for the period of time. She must have been a very strong woman, one who had immense pride in her family and morals. She was supportive of all her children and would literally go to the ends of the earth to achieve her goals. As with the majority of historical stories, they all have moments which you could take with a pinch of salt, Rosamund in this case. Thanks again, great comment 😊
When I discovered ten years ago that Eleanor was one of my direct ancestors the past opened up to me. Although I am myself a historian, being a descendant of so many interesting people made it more real and close than ever. I enjoy your channel and content.
Thank you so much Annastine, I'm pleased you found the video of interest, enjoy your weekend 😊
So very good!!! I love Eleanor!!
Thank you Duchess 😊
Thanks for a well done portrayal of her life story.
Thanks Debbra, enjoy your weekend 😊
Love the history! Love your voice. So calming. The story's are fascinating

Many decades ago brian cox played henry 11...Eleanor was truly kick arse this segment is one of your best. Many thanks
I am from Greece and i love history!all yours videos are super! thanks !!!i you wish the best !

Hi from Australia, we visited Greece in 2003. Islands are superb. 🙋♀️🙋♀️🙋♀️🇦🇺🇦🇺🇦🇺🇦🇺
@@gonefishing167 i live on an island :) ! I hope to visit Greece again.
Nice one! I've got an old book about Eleanor (1950s) and I'm curious to read it again and see how the history of her life has been changed since then. The past seems to change quite a lot as artifacts are uncovered and our understanding of the time develops. Either way great vid ❤✌
History is like Chinese whispers, always changing! Thanks for watching 😊
Interesting personality and well presented Jon🙂 cheers👍
Thanks Anita 😊 Enjoy the rest of your week.
@@HistoryRoadshow you too😉
Loved hearing further about this lady, have read about this fascinating woman. Upon reading about her was there truth in regards to her favoring her son Richard over her other children? Such a interesting life she lead, and a long one as well. Thank you, bravo.
Thanks Diane, I'm really not sure, it is possible that Eleanor leaned slightly towards Richard as he was the one who eventually freed her. 😊
Excellent and very well presented! Thank you!
I just discovered this channel recently and can I just say these episodes are so nicely done!! This is such an under rated channel! Doesn’t get the attention it deserves. So from one stay at home mom from a small podunk town in New England, I so appreciate each episode! I love them! Thanks for the hard work!
That's so kind and lovely of you, thank you very much 😊
Great video Jon once again
Thanks Alison, much appreciated 😊
The closing words about Queen Eleanor were that of an adoring minstrel :)
I have admired her since I was a child. We had Encyclopedia Britannica I would sit and flip through the pages and read about things and people. She was one that I remember being impressed with and have continue to be.
Hope you enjoyed it Debbra, thanks 😊
Enjoying your videos of historical characters immensely.....
Thank you Lisa 😊
The visuals for your videos are outstanding, almost as wonderful as your historical presentations and narration. Thank you so much! 🤴👸
Many thanks Ann, really pleased you're enjoying the content 😊
Enjoyed
Oh, for Pete's sake. Rosamond wasn't a blip on Eleanor's radar. Eleanor knew her position was not at all threatened by a concubine of Henry's. Henry had been unfaithful from the start, so the thought of Eleanor murdering Rosamond is pulp fiction pap.
No ones doubting that the story of Eleanor and Rosamund is more myth than reality! Thanks for watching 😊
She was quite delicate I heard & also felt guilty about her relationship with Henry.I have never believed the poison or the dagger story.
I look forward to each episode!
Thanks Patricia 😊
One of my adventurous ancestors!
Thanks Patricia 😊

One great queen 👑.
WHERE'S the Eleanor Series???!!! Come on netflix, Showtime, anybody!!!
I find these very interesting.
So like I'm going to have to pick up a thesaurus, coz the bar is getting raised each time a
new video is uploaded. I admit I'm a major Eleanor fan and I agree with this message! LoL!
Really, I edit myself, not me, myself....oh you know what I mean. I'm loving the background music ( I usually don't like it in video's) but you've mastered the levels, I hear...my God you must have so many layers going at anytime. Oof.
Very well done! I think your masses will be pleased you hooked them up.
OooOh is there a specific time window you work within or is History, Her...I mean History? People only or tales and legends too? Specific area's of the world? I have questions!
!!
So far Jon has mainly covered historical figures from the 1500's.
He just moved away from that era today as Eleanor was highly requested by fans.
Feel free to ask anything Maddie! 🤔
YESSSS
Another excellent and well narrated commentary Jon. I have just have one observation at the end. The summary suggested a woman of purity snd beauty yet the murder of Henry 's mistress I think is particularly cruel and uneccessary.
What's your feeling on this?
The story of Eleanor murdering Rosamund is most likely a legend developed no earlier than the 14th century.
Hi Helen, As with many stories they will change through time. With regards to the murder of Rosamund, it's more than likely a folk tale/myth that has grown over the years. No one can ever be 100 percent certain of what really happened. It's the same with images of Eleanor, none exist, and the ones you see were all created with artistic license. I think overall, much of what we can read about her today is fairly accurate, but only to a point. Thanks as always for watching 😊
Eleneor was born in Anglesey, Wales.
I heard about Eleanor being accused of having an affair with her uncle. I highly doubt this. I believe she was close to her uncle as he was her Dad's brother & thus a living link to her Dad whom she loved dearly... Louis took Eleanor through so much. She stated:
"I thought I married a man when I married a monk."
As a Mom, I also feel sad for her that after her divorce, her ex-husband got custody of their daughters. I doubt their stepmothers (Louis' 2 consecutive wives) would have loved them like their own Mom...
At 19:08, you said, "On the 11th of June, 1583, young Henry Now realised his attempts were pointless." You must have meant 1183.
Eleanor never met Louis VI- news of the Duke's death and will was brought to him. He dispatched his son Louis (and a large company) to meet her in Bordeaux. They were married and travelled together to Paris and during this time, Louis the Fat died and Eleanor reached Paris as Queen.
Love your videos, but the music is so distracting
The cross of st. George originally symbolized aquitaine instead of England.
I love that she didnt sit back and take crap like a good widdle woman.
How did Eleanor of Aquitaine live for so long?
Which would you choose? Knife or poison?
Yes, You!
I'm sure we could settle our differences over a beer 🍺 Maddie 😉
LoL! I do believe you're correct, but I just pictured someone holding a silver fancy tray with a knife and a glass of poison on it and like I had to pick one to ice myself with with? I don't know what I'd do.
This is for scienctifical um... stuff! Yes. They say men generally are more violent (knife) where ladies are more gentile (the glass).
I need answers! Thanks for participating Jon! :D
@@auntmaddie Many female killers throughout history opted for poisoning. No physical strength required, was clean and back in those days it wasn't traceable.
Poison cos a knife would hurt more maddie 😊👍
@Shane Flanagan And we could hide it right in our jewelry. >:D Have you heard of Aqua Tofona? She helped kill what they think amounted to hundreds of men by selling it to disenfranchised females.
Today is suicide not murder, Shane (oh dear!). Which would you pick?
uhh. certainly a facsinating life but blameless? She did kill that mistess in the maze. lol.
How can she be called the queen of the world when Europeans did not even know the continents of the Western Hemisphere existed?
*Why did the pic of Rosamund look like a man?? Lol... I'm sorry but the facial structure looked masculine...
She had a lucky marriage and was never really in control of anything.
Sigh. Chinbyous just can't get over their attempts to try and make historical blondes look like swordslashing toughtalking warlords lol
