  • Eleanor Of Aquitaine, a story of the most revered woman of the middle ages. A duchess in her own right with power and influence. Her life was long and at times fraught with danger. Eleanor would gain the crown and go on to become Queen of France and later England with Henry II. She was one of the most prominent women in history. Eleanor of Aquitaine was a formidable woman; her leadership, political awareness and strength of character would hold her in good stead. She was part of the crusade to the holy land. Yet, enhanced the grandeur of her birth by the honesty of her life, the purity of her morals, the flower of her virtues, and in the conduct of her blameless life, she surpassed almost all the queens of the world.

      Same here. The performance given my Hepburn and Peter O'Tole is what triggered my now deep study of the entire Plantanget Dynasty! This history is much more entertaining than "Game of Thrones" or similar shows. Now I've dived deep into the Tudors after studies of The War of the Roses. These people were cut throat to maintain power.

    Eleanor is one of my favorite medieval queens. Queen of France, then Queen of England, and an international diplomat. She was a 21st-century woman a thousand years before the 21st century.
    Henry II's mother, Empress Matilda is another fascinating woman who would make a great video.

    Good summing up of Eleanor's long eventful life Jon. No easy task but your efforts are very much appreciated by me and by others too as evident in the comments and high viewer numbers etc. This popular well known choice seems to have been a hit. Well done 👍👏
    Queen of the World! Great video title, very apt. A worldly woman who was more than just another Queen Consort.
    A remarkable woman who thrived in a man's world. Eleanor is often remembered as the wife and mother of Kings instead of the woman she was. She too has often been unfairly villified as a she-wolve for her success and for some of her decisions and actions be they fact or fiction. I found her support of her son's rebellion understandle. Henry II was a bullish and selfish man unwilling to share power and responsibility with his sons. A 12th century Henry VIII.
    Most would spend their last years winding down and relaxing but not Eleanor who remained active and even outlived the majority of her children. She still had to deal with the dramas at home and abroad and in the lives of her children and grandchildren. How a elderly woman could cross the Alps to Navarre and travel elsewhere to places like Castile in all kinds of weather and terrain I'll never know!
    It surprises me how little she has been portrayed onscreen. Such a historical figure deserves to be the title figure of a film or series. Just as interesting as those from the Tudor era.
    Thanks again Jon 😁🙏

    • @HistoryRoadshow
      @HistoryRoadshow  3 года назад +1

      It's a remarkable story Shane, and one worth telling. She lived a full life for the period of time. She must have been a very strong woman, one who had immense pride in her family and morals. She was supportive of all her children and would literally go to the ends of the earth to achieve her goals. As with the majority of historical stories, they all have moments which you could take with a pinch of salt, Rosamund in this case. Thanks again, great comment 😊

    • @HistoryRoadshow
      @HistoryRoadshow  3 года назад +2

      Hi Helen, As with many stories they will change through time. With regards to the murder of Rosamund, it's more than likely a folk tale/myth that has grown over the years. No one can ever be 100 percent certain of what really happened. It's the same with images of Eleanor, none exist, and the ones you see were all created with artistic license. I think overall, much of what we can read about her today is fairly accurate, but only to a point. Thanks as always for watching 😊

    I heard about Eleanor being accused of having an affair with her uncle. I highly doubt this. I believe she was close to her uncle as he was her Dad's brother & thus a living link to her Dad whom she loved dearly... Louis took Eleanor through so much. She stated:
    "I thought I married a man when I married a monk."
    As a Mom, I also feel sad for her that after her divorce, her ex-husband got custody of their daughters. I doubt their stepmothers (Louis' 2 consecutive wives) would have loved them like their own Mom...
