  • It’s a simple premise: the door is locked, and we need to get in. The challenges lie in the methods we use to gain entry. During an Active Shooter Event breaching is a critical skill that can save lives - but most law enforcement officers lack the necessary tools and training. Today our panel discusses the challenges of breaching, from the availability of tools, the use of KnoxBoxes, fire inspectors and handling glass windows. They explore how building relationships and integrating training between law enforcement and fire departments can bridge these gaps.

Enjoyed this conversation. One correction is that the situation I referenced where an officer had to shoot through the glass to stop the ongoing killing in a bank was actually in Louisville, KY on April 10, 2023 and not Memphis.

I can’t tell you how many times, as a 24 yr veteran fireman, we were special assigned to a domestic (ect) or other violent call to force entry for the pd. And this was pre-school shooter protocols where we were given body armor.

I am sure Mike and I know as an officer for years, we utilized the Fire Department (San Marcos, TX I reference in the podcast) many times for the same purpose. Thank you for your service and listening in! Terry Nichols
