  • The Korg Nanokontrol is such a nice little music plaything. And so is the Yamaha FB01 ... and the RK006 ... and the RK002.... so ... lets make something reeeeallly useful with it!
We already did a RK002/Nanokontrol/PG300 editor combo for the Roland Alpha Juno ( • Retrokits RK002 + Korg... ) but the Yamaha FB-01 4-OP FM unit is a different ballgame. This little synth box has quite some parameters up it's sleeve and arranging it on a Nanokontrol was a bit of a challenge.
It turned out pretty nice though, in this video a bit about making this setup work and an introduction to editing the patches. (PS: Make sure 'memory protect' on the FB01 is set to OFF or the patches will not be saved)
The RK002 DUY processor and template can be downloaded on the RK002 Portal duy.retrokits....

This is awesome. If I had any sort of programming knowledge I’d try to make an editor for the Matrix-6/1000. Ps: I love the program change buttons you put on the keystep

I saw some matrix sysex commands here and it seems a lot easier than the FB01 gearspace.com/board/electronic-music-instruments-and-electronic-music-production/675612-oberheim-matrix-6-midi-controller.html

@@RetrokitsDev I'll have to try it in the future. If it has the back and forth communication that would be incredible.

Also, did you build those program change buttons for the keystep? very cool

Yes, that was another RK002 project 😬 it is now configured as a simple program change but I might alter the script to make a button-key combo for other options duy.retrokits.com/647f98e9-7cd5-43da-a41c-89b007d92220

    Great stuff.
I wonder if you’ve ever made ne for the Roland JV1010. It’s a great little multitimbral synth that I use with the RK006 plus the Rk008 but I’d love a bit more control a little like this.

      @RetrokitsDev  3 месяца назад +1

The jv1010 is a mega synth, I also thought about making something for the D50 which is a similar voice architecture but with just 8 sliders/dials it might be just too quirky. With the jv1010 however you can get EG and filter control via the GM CC set (e.g. controller 71/74 are for filter control) which works quite good for patch adjustments

Yeah that’s just about all the controlI I have. With the launch control mini the knobs are are assigned to the filters as you mentioned reverb, I think chorus plus attack/sustain. Tried implementing turning portamento/glide on and off but it’s a bit hit and miss. I may be doing something wrong there though.
I’m looking out for the fb01 for sale now.

Do you have anything to program ? Can't find the specific FB01 software on the website, is it the one for the Juno.
So, basically all you need to have with the FB01 is :
    - The RK002
    - The Korg Nanokontrol
    - The RK006 also ?
    - a usb cable like this
That's all ? No need to program anything with sysex etc ?

This is the one you’re looking for: duy.retrokits.com/61021c41-2479-4935-bac0-0588557edfc7
This setup with the rk006 and rk002 allow you to use the parameter peek via the FB01 display and see visual feedback on the nanokontrol. If you would use a regular midi controller where you plug in the rk002 you don’t have these extras but you can still edit the sounds. In the template pdf are also the controller numbers which the nanokontrol send and which the rk002 converts into FB01 sysex messages
