- The first witness in the trial of a Fort Worth police officer accused of murder was a child. Criminal defense attorney Russell Wilson has been following the trial and predicted the now 11-year-old nephew of Atatiana Jefferson would be called to testify. He talked about the inconsistencies in the little boy's story of what happened.

No she was standing inside her house cops parked around the corner and did not turn their lights on they snuck in to the pitch black backyard to view inside from the back of this woman’s house they did not announce themselves she heard noise coming from her yard so she grabbed her gun to go and see what was there it was too dark and a shadow and they never announced police and trespass on property by the property

I watched that footage over and over and I don't see how he could have seen anything other than the glare of that flashlight
To me this entire case makes no sense at all, I don't understand how a simple welfare check got turned into a burglary in progress. I don't care if it was a high crime area or not when Mr. Smith called the non emergency number he said there was no argument or anything going on inside the house he was just concerned because the doors were open. It doesn't matter IMO, if Atatiana had the gun pointed at the window or not she heard a noise and saw a flashlight in her back yard not knowing who it was. She had every right to protect herself and her nephew from any perpetrator forgetting that she left the doors open while playing a game with Zion in her bedroom. In my opinion, the main problem here is the officers never once identified themselves. 1) not when knocking at the front door 2) not when passing the side door 3) not when entering the back yard gate 4) not when Mr. Dean saw a figure of someone in the back window with a gun 5) not when blinding the person with the flashlight and ordering "put your hands up" immediately firing through the glass and 6) not even upon entering the house while making their way to the back bedroom. Another point, he should have reminded himself that the occupants were somewhere in the house since both of their car's were accounted for. He should have shown restraint before discharging his weapon at just anyone. What's even worse when no perpetrators were found and the female officer removed Zion Mr. Dean never attempted to give Atatiana CPR. This is the worst case of a welfare check gone wrong I have ever heard of.
