I make a little sketch on each letter. And the sketch usually has something to do with the content of the letter--so not a theme per se. I got the idea for my letters from Vincent Van Gogh's letters to his brother Theo--although my sketches cannot compare to Vincent's!!
I have just sent a spring themed letter and envelope. Yes I often do mine themed and have just asked my pen pals favourite colour so I can do a colour themed one with that colour goodies too. I paint, use pens, draw, cut out magazines and words, stamps ,washi tape and use stickers.
I usually make my own envelopes, from calendars no longer needed, which don't need anything else adding to them.
