  • I came into posession of this flesh sensing saw break and I wondered what triggers the break mechanism. The one I was given had been discharged so it worked and nobody was hurt.

    I can tell you exactly... and you'll kick yourself :P SawStops are constantly recording the current going through the brake, the settings, override position etc. Once activated by the completed circuit of conductor... namely, your finger, the brake fires, but all that realtime data is stored and protected. What you are meant to do is send the spent brake into SawStop, and if it was a genuine finger save, they will replace it for free. The recorded data is apparently able to tell the difference between a flesh activation and cutting wet wood, metal, etc that can also trigger the brake from user error. So all you need to do now is send the unit in and get your mone.... oh, well, umm, they probably want it in one piece... 😂
