My daughter in L.A is bringing me the Quest over for my Christmas present this year as i have a Quest 30 detector. I've been using the G-pinpointer about 4-5yrs now but i modified it with a simple elastic band and coin trick and it will detect as deep as the Garret easily. Plenty of videos on YT to show you how. Also i noticed in a couple of videos your pinpointers are bogging/filthy, when i first started detecting i was always told to clean my equipment after use as next use could have small particles in the dried out mud on a pinpointer or your detectors coil causing it to chatter or miss-bleep. Good luck with the detecting.
Great review. You're good at it, do more! Maybe borrow your buddies equipment for reviews. I appreciate your opinions. I would be helpful to sort out personal videos from metal detecting videos. Place your metal detecting videos in a play list. Are you looking at purchasing the Minelab Manticore, what are your thoughts? I'm going to purchase a Manticore, among a few other metal detectors for an expedition.
Thanks so much for watching. My final conclusion is that the Garrett AT PRO is the fastest, best and easiest in the field. Also, I thought usb recharge was best but it does mean continual charging before every dig. With the Garrett, just keep it in the car and use it, until the battery goes down. It's now the main pointer that I use. The others are just backups. My detecting videos are in this playlist ruclips.net/p/PLrZ0Lg-zTFsgJXdQ_oVhoI23mylIUjoEy I'd love a Manticore but at the moment, it's just too expensive for me to justify purchasing. At the end of the day I'm not yet convinced it'll be any better. You've got to walk over it to find it, right? And I'm confident the 800 will find the good stuff. Maybe when I'm flushed with some spare cash, I'll change my tune. Thanks again for the video channel tips. Good luck hunting and enjoy your new machines and what sounds like a fantastic trip. Rich
@@RG500_detectorist Thanks for the link, I'll check the vids out, and I took notes on your pin pointer. I have it at the top of my list, but still haven't made any decisions.
@@pigeonbloodruby5330 Cool. I find the MI-4 is nice but can be too quiet for me sometimes and the Quest MAX is too erratic. Garrett works well and as expected. All the best. Rich
Blimey Rich I’ve just found this vid..you’ve got a collection of pointers there mate..so I’ve ordered mine yesterday..I must say I did put the holster for the pinpointer on the back of the arm cuff..fixed it with a cable tie..worked well but I’ve now got a chest pocket thing the same as the police have for radios and stuff and that I use all the time..the probe is on it it has pockets for spray bottle and a little brush..yer really works well my best setup to date..it’s only taken 40 years lol
Hey James. Thanks for watching and commenting. Yes, for sure. I always go out with a back up. I'm still finding the MI-4 is my favourite BUT on a noisy windy day, rather than mess with the settings to make it peep, I resort to the QUEST MAX. I've since found the clip has been ok on my belt but I will see if it'll go on my harness. Thanks again and I hope your new pointer uncovers some of that ancient gold 😀
@@RG500_detectorist I found a solution that might be helpful. Simply remove the plastic clip and thread your belt through the hole. After a while, it opens up more. HH
Thanks for watching and commenting. Yes, I can't remember it being that poor when I was using it as my only pointer, I'm wondering if the battery needs replacing. I'll double check and do a follow up video if required. Thanks again and wishing you the best of luck finding your treasure. 👍
Hi. I've double checked the GP pointer and tested it with a brand new battery. Still the unit needs to be very close to the metal object. Not sure now if mine has developed a fault. Does yours have a much better range? I'm pleased you've found the GP pointer works for you, as the others are incredibly expensive for what they are. Thanks again Rich
Cant buy a XPointer Max for love or money in the UK i wonder why, was there too many recalls, i liked the Discriminator on the xpointer. Does this have a discriminator.?
Hi. I'm not too sure ?? Mine works fine, just a bit chatty but all you need to do is reset with a push of the button. It has multiple levels of sensitivity and yes, is tells you and flashes a red light for iron and green for non-ferrous. If you would like one, I still have the box for mine and it's had very little use, as I have 4. Let me know and maybe you can have mine. Cheers
@@RG500_detectorist I spoke to the supplier today about why there are no pointers in stock and if they are discontinued due to people sending them back, apparently stock was slow coming out of the factory and a new improved model is coming out in two weeks time same price same features. You have 4 of these they must be good, looking forward to the improved model. Thanks for offering one, how much was you asking out of intrest.
@@RG500_detectorist That would be a good video to compare the new version with the old model. Just hope they have taken to the criticism and sorted out the complaints and niggles. Looks like you are going to end up with 5.
Hello and greetings from London. Sorry to hear that the Detectors are not available for you. I'm sure there are many interesting things to find. Always remember some things are on the surface.

It's looks like if you stick the mi4 down the hole you won't know which side of the wall is it . Is on the right or on the left or at the bottom, it gives you a reading all over the hole ,but the quest using the tip of the pinpointer will show you exactly where it is
My update since doing this video would be to use the Garrett pro. It's just quicker in the field. The mi-4 is nice but just too quiet and the Quest to irratic
I find the tip to difficult to use, the length of the shaft allows me to find quicker. Maybe you technique is wrong but for me the Garrett finds fastest.
@mase202 mi4 and Garrett are both great. Garrett seems a bit easier in the field and being 9v battery you can just carry a spare. Mi4 needs a usb charge every so often. Very difficult to choose between then. Love the various tone of the mi4@@mase202
Apologies... XP MI-4 !!!!

Mi 4 you need to level 3 sensitive
Yes, for highest with noise
