I am from BIT Mesra, CSE. I also cracked BITS Pilani back in 2011, but did not get CSE there. Mesra CSE would close at 8k rank in my time. I got it because of state quota in AIEEE counselling. I think comparing one over other does not make much sense. Placement at Mesra was worse than even many unsought colleges in Bangalore because of its location. But, of course you can fight for off-campus. Most teachers are also like government college laid back ones. On an average, students I met here were sharp. They will do well in life overall and that is what matters in the end. You may want to choose an NIT over BIT Mesra, because of the ROI NIT offers. If you get Pilani, great. Even if you don't get any branded universities, you don't have to feel low. If you are persistent, you will do well irrespective of your college. You will get plenty of time in undergrad to turn into the man you want to be. Focus on your interests. Fall in love. Make friends for life. Smoke pot. Listen to Pink Floyd. This is what colleges are for. All the best.
