When I was about 8, back in the late 80s I saw a guy beat Double Dragon Arcade just using the elbow move. I owned the SMS port of Double Dragon, but it was easy. Great games, though. And it was awesome watching someone clean-up an arcade game, as most were next to impossible to beat.
This game was ahead of its time. And I mean that literally, because the slowdown problems WERE real on the original cabinet and at times it could get outright unplayable, even with just 1 player. It's almost like Technos said heck with it the hardware isn't up to snuff but we want our pretty graphics. Worse, even in Double Dragon II this problem wasn't fixed. Just as your "fix" here shows, while the original games were still badass if they managed to fix the slowdown problems it wouldn't be that much better. Then there's double dragon 3 and...um...err...hey look over there! *runs*

someone should replace an arcade with all mame machines. www.monsterarcades.com/upright-arcade That is- when the game makers finally ease up about someone playing their games for free. No one buys 80's arcade games anymore hardly, because they aren't many arcades anymore, so they don't make money on them. If they even still work! Unless they sell them as games to play online or something, like they did with this game actually
You could have done the Abobo balcony glitch where he throws you up to the balcony allowing you to beat the boss with ease you could have shaved a minute off of your time, maybe more.
Very true, but when I bumped the CPU speed up it threw me off big time. It cut almost all the lag out of the game that was useful to make certain glitches easier. Stage 2 is a perfect example. Normal CPU speed, I can line it up every time, but accelerated CPU you can clearly see me judging it. Lol.
nice! I need to play this again with the overclocking. Thanks for the notes on that! This is nerdy, but I haven't seen any non arcade version of DD that replicates how enemies fall depending on how wasted they are..

I loved, love and always will love this game. I've read the author's book, and know I understand why this game has so much fun inside ! Just wondering to get an arcade cabinet, just for this game. Anyway, great video.
Agreed! As far as a cabinet goes, that would depend on if you want a MAME style, or an original board. I’d imagine finding an original cabinet could be tuff. Let alone the board.
Lol! It would seem that way, but no. Anytime you kill the boss of a stage the left over enemies will leave the screen. I’m pretty sure you can attack them still as well.
@@CinderGamingChannel I already knew that leftover second knives leave the screen when the boss is dead. But are the three last green invincible, or not...?
I also used to pass the game with no death...but I could do a lot of things that no one seen before..like the last guy I kill him upstairs when he is waiting to come down
Very good point. It would have to be very planned out, but I’m sure it could be done in a speedrun. Alas though, with the floor glitch, I’m curious if that just made it all the more obsolete. Ever seen the floor glitch?
Ha, the game of my childhood! Thnaks for the memories and the nice skilled video! I ve managed to boost CPU to 140%, but how the hell do you keep the sound at a normal speed??? (thanks for your expert lights)
Louis Kanak Did you also move Sub CPU and Sound CPU to 140%? Changing one without the others normally results in these kinds of errors. Also, experiment with different rom versions. That worked the best for me when finding the best rom version. Double Dragon roms are the strangest set I've used so far. Strangest being sometimes they work correctly and sometimes they don't without cause. :)
Cinder Gaming thanks for your anwer! i m actually fighting with the multpile rom sets and the so many Mame versions. I ve been trying with the 0.152 version as you described, but the only menu i found in properties settings of the rom is "emulation speed" bar, which has no Sub Cpu or Sound Cpu to be adjusted... I must miss something somewhere ^^ The sound cpu or sub CPU you mention are in dip switches when you run the game or in the Default settings of Mame emulator? SOrry to bother you with such crappy problems XD
Cinder Gaming Just find it! Ok i didn't "enable cheats" in the Mame default options, so now i can adjust the 3 cpu %! Can't wait to test it, and thanks again for your 1coin vid and your tips ;) Cheers
Louis Kanak Ok, are you using just the front end MAME 0.152 or MAMEUIFX64 0.152? Its very strange that the "Tab key" doesn't bring up the options. Are you doing this while in the game, cause that's where it will bring up that particular menu. Happy to help you work the problem. The option in the "Tab key" function you are looking for is called "Slider Controls". The "Dip Switch" controls normally only handle the actual options for the game itself. Like difficulty and such.
I was too young at the time but I wonder how many kids in the 80s played the game for the panty shot in the first scene, you know they did that on purpose haha. Loved this game.
Yes. As per a lot of the old arcade roms, the difficulty was changeable via the dip switches on the board. MAME has a setting where you can actually change and watch the dip switches move when you adjust them. Pretty cool stuff.
Im still wondering how someone managed a world record score of 171,210. I don't see how that is possible. I know the knife gives you 500 per attack but it disappears after each use. The spinning kick gives you 200 which Ive managed to use majority of the game along with the knife attacks when i could and only managed a score of like 96k.
That's easy. Kick the opponent until you can apply the hair grab. When the hair grab is applied, knee the opponent twice, then walk in the other direction. Last, but not least, immediately turn around, and kick the opponent again. This will allow you to put the opponent back into the hair grab again. Rinse and repeat. Remember, keep an eye on the timer.
Cinder Gaming well its a work in progress. Ive managed to accumulate 19k on the first mission. Although with a loss of one life. Throughout the following levels there are opportunities to farm more points doing the repeat knee smash. Just need to figure out a pattern so that the opponents dont get in a hit here and there which eventually leads to the loss of all of your lives.
Definitely easier then the sequel I remember this one I kicked everyone's ass in that game The 2nd tho was harder but better and the final boss the ghost when it appeared I was like WHAT THE FUCK IS THAT the music fits it tho
+djfrijoles, While in the game, tap the tab key on your keyboard. This will bring up the menu. Go to Sliders. You will want to adjust the CPU sliders. Keep in mind that I've never tried this with two players. It could work just fine or simply be too much for the ROM to handle.
nah man i wasnt trying to naysay you, just remembering the old days when the elbow cheese wasnt know yet it was just punches and kicks and spending a lot of coins xD then the elbow cheese arrived and everybody including me was finishing the game with one coin
Absolutely! The emulator is awesome for fixing the roms flaws, but still can never give the authentic feel of standing in front of the cabinet like the old days. Great score!
Lmao! Two player was very bad. The boards settings could be tweaked to remove the lag, but this is within the emulator. I have no clue what changing those settings would possibly do to a board in its cabinet.
I don't know but the company that restored it did lots of servicing to the board. I always wanted to own a dedicated dd and not some jamma cab. It was costly but no way on earth am I parting ways with my two cabs I have at the moment and a dedicated pow that's being paid off. Picking up a Ghost and Goblins cocktail tomorrow. Gonna make my arcade tour vid some day.
The conveyor belt slow down looks horrible two player fighting the boss with other enemies with the whips and one box one screen. Even with two bats carried by the characters to the point would surely blow the board. Lol
Oddly in the arcade i grew up in this was the go to move. Even with that this game felt almost impossible. Especially that stage with the spears and boulders coming out of the wall.
@@CinderGamingChannel Sure: using it constantly to overcome just about any enemy instead of using it tactically, e.g. when attacked from behind while fighting enemies off in front of you.
Oookkk. Using a readily available move only tactically in a speedrun.................. that is a new one. I'll give you that. As for harder difficulty, that is why they have the "Any %" speedrun category.
+terry bogard, I assure you, this is far from a TAS. Anything that is modified from it's original form means it has been changed. For some reason, TAS has become an accepted form of a speedrun, and that is simply strange for that reason alone. Take stage 2 of my run for example. That is a in game exploit that makes a quicker time possible, but no tool was used to achieve it. Otherwise, I could have pulled it off faster for an even better time. It can be done, but it is very hard to hit a perfect frame on the edge without falling to your death. Another example, RNG in the final stage makes it almost impossible to not get speared after clearing the moving wall obstacle. To be honest, I've come to the conclusion that the 1st obstacle in the final stage is completely random and has ruined many of my attempts. Lol! Here is the perfect example of a TAS Double Dragon Speedrun and hopefully my rambling was helpful. :) ruclips.net/video/ca5Ptpk3La4/видео.html
Great framerate on the game by the way. Plus your pretty good. :) BUT THE ARCADE GAME SUCKED. Glitchy , and way too easy. Just elbow all the way through. Stupid game. But I loved it.

There are no invincible enemies in Double Dragon. The HP level for them is just set at a higher value.
Not a problem. Anytime. :)
Is this Double Dragon3 or final edition? Looks good
This is the original DD arcade version.
I was too young at the time but I wonder how many kids in the 80s played the game for the panty shot in the first scene, you know they did that on purpose haha. Loved this game.
+DavidVerityTV,
Lmao! You know they did! Hell, I'm pretty sure I noticed it as a kid too!
Did this game have a difficulty setting?
Yes. As per a lot of the old arcade roms, the difficulty was changeable via the dip switches on the board. MAME has a setting where you can actually change and watch the dip switches move when you adjust them. Pretty cool stuff.
so was this guy a future hero back in the day or playin on easy
I would say hero. Lol.
Cinder Gaming wow ill have to try that...
Let me know what ya come up with. :)
It can be done on all stages, but I've found the best to be stage 2.
Definitely easier then the sequel I remember this one I kicked everyone's ass in that game
The 2nd tho was harder but better and the final boss the ghost when it appeared I was like WHAT THE FUCK IS THAT
the music fits it tho
+NoMi MirXa, hell yeah the second was harder! Lol! Not mention getting use to controls scheme it changed to. 🤜🤜🤜
Cinder Gaming yep
50,000? You got over 50,000 on double dragon!?
Epic line! I still remember the Power Glove scene! 👍👍👍
Hey how did you get around the slow down? Ive been wanting to play it this way forever!
+djfrijoles,
While in the game, tap the tab key on your keyboard. This will bring up the menu. Go to Sliders. You will want to adjust the CPU sliders. Keep in mind that I've never tried this with two players. It could work just fine or simply be too much for the ROM to handle.
Thanks! Ill try it today for sure!
Great game and playthrough. If only the enemy bodies stayed on the ground instead of disappearing...
Thank you. Don't forget to check out the DDII video just completed.
How come you not losing no energy when you are getting hit??
+Paul Grant, um, not sure of how many, but there are several times I lose health.
Are you blind or just being a jerk? Watch the health meter. can your attention span last 10 minutes? Good grief.
Not to mention,I think you have to hit the ground to lose vitality.
aaa the elbow cheese when the game stop being hard and MUCH less fun in just an instant
Um, yeah? Speedrun? Damage boost? 80’s game? Na, we can go with yours. 👌
nah man i wasnt trying to naysay you, just remembering the old days when the elbow cheese wasnt know yet it was just punches and kicks and spending a lot of coins xD
then the elbow cheese arrived and everybody including me was finishing the game with one coin
Coins..........man that seems so long ago. Online gaming just doesn’t feel the same in my opinion.
i got the original arcade cab. only true way to play dd.
Absolutely! The emulator is awesome for fixing the roms flaws, but still can never give the authentic feel of standing in front of the cabinet like the old days. Great score!
The dreaded slow down isn't bad one player. Never owned it long enough to play two player at the second stage boss battle to see lol
Lol
Do not mess with billy Lee and Jimmy lee the double dragon they will kick your butt
A classic fact indeed. 👍
the music sounded better on the nes version oddly enough
I love the arcade version, but must agree with ya.👍
gurgy3 I can't stand the NES music
Nes music is definitely better, but arcade music was always subdued to make the sound effects stand out.
This is an emulator not the arcade version
Um.....wow!
Lmao! Don't hurt yourself.
Lol!🙄
Well you have put in the title (arcade) And it isnt the arcade .
+BF4pawntard, na, I'm ok with MAME. 👍
But its not the same as the arcade version thats what im saying .
+BF4pawntard, ok, tell me how it isn't. Don't say emulation either. No one is going to modify an original Double Dragon cabinet.
this game was so hard to beat in the arcade
True, but even as a kid, I never realized all the enemies would walk right into the elbow move.
Nor the amount of damage it would inflict! Lol.
Oddly in the arcade i grew up in this was the go to move. Even with that this game felt almost impossible. Especially that stage with the spears and boulders coming out of the wall.
Hey, sometimes that’s the joy of being young. Figuring it out when ya get older tends to be fun. Depending on what your doing of course. Lol!
Indeed
Try and play this through without misusing the elbow smash (and a harder difficulty setting); that'll prove if you really know how to play this game.
Can you define what you call "misusing"?
@@CinderGamingChannel Sure: using it constantly to overcome just about any enemy instead of using it tactically, e.g. when attacked from behind while fighting enemies off in front of you.
Oookkk. Using a readily available move only tactically in a speedrun..................
that is a new one. I'll give you that. As for harder difficulty, that is why they have the "Any %" speedrun category.
as if you wouldn't go for the sub 10 minutes after all the effort to get this far
I did, just in another run! 😎
@@CinderGamingChannel Sub 5 mins?
hm hm hm hm hm
OP elbow attack
Absolutely, but will always keep ya out of a tight jam too.
Whole game can be beaten using just elbow strike .but my coins allways got swallowed at the moving wall bit on the last level.!
Oh god! Lol! I remember those times. My buster had to be boss at the end of level two. Always a pain!
Elbow OP
Lmao! Welcome to the Arcade version!
heyy sinder gaming i beat you r speedrun gaming of double dragon i did 09.36 ill send you the url
Awesome job, but it's actually 8:24 on the improved run. This is the original run.😋
yes i know that iam the 2nd world record wait iam uploading it on youtube plz see it and comment plz
No worries. I'll check it out. Come to think of it, what is the WR for Double Dragon Arcade? Is there an official one?
OK NOW I THINK IAM DONE WITH DD I THINK ILL GO FOR ANOTHER CASTLEVANIA OR GAME BOY GAMES OR PLAYING MY PS3
terry bogard love the vw always got distracted when plying this game far out 40cents went a ling way back in the hay days lol
3:20 and your fake energy bar
Wow! Thank you for the bold/inaccurate statement. 🤙
i mean here loool
i think its a tas cauz its very difficult to beat the game im 10 mnt bro i hardly did it in 12 mnt
+terry bogard, awesome reference to Fatal Fury by the way.
what fatal fury you mean
+terry bogard , Um..........I didn't think there was A Fatal Fury without Terry Bogard. Lmao! I could be wrong.
Son un clacoco
Oh yes. Very classic.
Yawn! Might've done it a lot quicker without all those boring elbows. Unlimited energy too.
It's the unlimited remark that makes me yawn at this comment! Lmao!
At 6:02, anyone can clearly see I took damage. Try 6:54 as well.
Hey you're right. I obviously fell asleep during the first viewing.
(Facepalm)...............right. Whatever the case may be, thanks for the view.
Clacico
Great framerate on the game by the way. Plus your pretty good. :) BUT THE ARCADE GAME SUCKED. Glitchy , and way too easy. Just elbow all the way through. Stupid game. But I loved it.
+Randy Salter, it definitely had its downsides. Then when The Revenge cam on this scene, the difficulty went through the roof.
Yes. it's a piece of history as well. Thanks for the upload.
No problem. Glad you enjoyed it.
me abuuurrooooo
And that usually spells TROUBLE! Lol!
whoever playing is very good must be on easy mode or something cuz the enemies die fast
To be honest, I can’t remember if this was easy category, or normal category. I have been meaning to rerun this for the longest. Too many good runs to attempt! Lol!
Mediocre.
Lmao! I’m flattered. Thank you! 😘
