#1 reason. Tank's don't DRIFT! also a layer of lead would not stop the damage/death of the characters. There is only so much reality i'm willing to break. And I love gurren lagaan. :P

warhawk9566 Typically a 72 ton tank can't pull a 90 degree drift regardless of how much horsepower the tank puts out. If it were (let's say a LAV 600) it could be possible to drift an armored vehicle
90 degree was an exaggeration but my point still stands tanks drift. Also he's watching a chi ha get hit by an 84mm and completely ragdoll but his problem is the fact that the tanks drift? It's a show designed to have some cool and silly action scenes, and I don't think at any point it's trying to be realistic.
When you think about it this song fits this anime. it looks like they are fighting for a tank god killing muslim tanks trying to take Tankusarelem back.
