They both know she can't move on knowing her boyfriend is dead so she founds a way to bring her boyfriend back but that meant forgetting David the guy she's kissing in the present. She basically figures out they met before or during time Travelling idk. She saw him, he saw her and without a doubt they believe if they we're meant together they will see each other again. Girl time travels and forgets memories and so does boy (that's why he disappears) and in the end you see them in the new time as strangers who don't know each other but have a deep connection together through music and they found each other again happy with other people.
