Thank you for sharing. I remember riding with Dad & Mom in the middle of the winter. Dad worked in Silverton year around for several years. We lived in Fruita, Co. Great Grandpa & Grandpa helped build the Million Dollar Highway. Got the semi stuck in the tunnel once. Had to let air out of the tires to get unstuck. Grandpa used to drive from Grand Junction to White Sands during WWII. He got a special award for helping during WWII.
FINALLY, FINALLY, we have an 'on the road' video that isn't time lapse. This is so refreshing to see. Some on the road videos are sped up so fast you can't see the scenery. You are one heck of a driver/video creator. It is a pleasure to watch this video, I'm really enjoying this experience. I'll definitely check out your other videos.
YOU TRUCKERS ARE IN GENERAL, THE ROYALTY OF THE HIGHWAY. WE ALL OWE OUR LIVES AND SUPPLIES DELIVERED SAFELY, TO YOU DEAR TRUCKERS!!! THANK YOU FOR TAKING US ALONG. BEAUTIFUL, TREACHEROUS COUNTRY. WE ALL OWE YOU A VERY HUGE AND GRATEFUL, THANK YOU!!!
AMEN. I am not a trucker, but, I APPRECIATE them. People must remember, give them a break. Pay attention to their turn signals and let them have your lane.....Most of all, DO NOT hit your brakes hard when a trucker is behind you. Trucks CANNOT stop like cars.......I taught all these "rules" to my kids when they were learning to drive.
Love riding shotgun with this polite, knowledgeable, humorous, teacher behind the wheel. Much respect to the store bringing pathfinders who haul for us all
If you mean die of starvation, you are correct, sir. But when Commies are in charge, the first thing they do is attack food manufacturing and distribution.
My Uncle was an Independent, he was carrying a load of swinging beef... Going through the mountains they said he must of miss judged a turn and he went over he was 47 my Aunt used give him a hard time because he hauled logs and he had to get loaded and unloaded so he drove a little faster than he should... So, he moved on to SAFER other loads... Like he told me there is NO safe loads... There is only safe drivers... So good on you driver... You woke up some great memories... Thank You...!!
I have 40 years experience driving canadian rockies, but I would sure love to try those hairpin turns you have! Man you've got my 40 years beat dude. Yes I use to always practise my skills, like where my trailer follows if I'm turning this much, or any skill. Just makes me a better driver, takes practise like a fiddle. Now I'm retired just over 60, I use to read the road and know where my tires get the best traction in the snow. Love how you handle the road, stay safe brother and keep them coming.
It's neat the way he talks to us like we were sitting in the passenger seat listening to him talk to us and the camera is like it is shown through our own eyes even though we are sitting at home. I can almost feel every bump along with "Riding Shotgun". That is why I'm checking out all of his videos.
We have ridden this on a motorcycle in the early 1980"s and drove it just last week in our SUV. I have the utmost respect for you and the other truck drivers that make this trip.
We drove from Durango to Telluride and my wife freaked and that was northbound. Going back (south) a few days later she screamed most of the way to Silverton. (was driving a 32' motor home -- LOL).
Mike, thanks for the memories. I lived in Ouray for 30 years until 2008. Of course it's changed a lot since I first got there on my motorcycle. I am now at 83, a very happy old lady with lots of good memories.
A driving job like that on that highway you deserve a million dollars plus. Good job. Been watching your videos for some time now and you are one of the best I can say that.
OMG you had my nerves going I couldn't stop watching yet I loved it thank you so much you always have beautiful videos I didn't want it to end I have never seen such a beautiful place yet scary. You are an amazing driver keep up the good work your videos are awesome.
I've done that road so many times on my Harley it basically drives it self. That view coming around that last turn with Ouray at the bottom is priceless.
Wow! I had to pull over and have a drink! Change my shorts & get a new chair. I'll finish watching it later. Add a little snow or rain and it would cause heart problems!
Dear Mike, Happy Father's Day. This is one of the best videos. My father was a trucker, your skills and competencies bring me memories of my father. THANK YOU from the bottom of my heart, stay safe and be well.
I can't wait to see the conclusion of this video. Man i had butterflies all in my stomach from the tight turns to looking down below the mountain base. Great skills and a awesome view. Looking for some more fanatic video views to come. Thank you Mr. Riding Shotgun. Happy Father's Day to you. Also i have just finished watching all 3 of those from start to finish.
Thank you so much for not cutting the corners on the switchbacks...especially the one at 8:42. I was nearly killed by a Huge RV cutting that corner one day. If I hadn't looked up the mountain and seen it coming down...myself and several cars behind me would have been dead. I slowed down to a crawl as I looked up and saw it coming. The cars behind me were honking...but luckily...none tried to pass me. Suddenly...that monster RV swept around the switchback, taking both lanes...and barely missed the front of my car.
I live in central Manitoba Canada where it is mainly flat. Watching you drive this crazy ass road was great. Shows your skills as a trucker. Stay safe and keep up the good work on the videos.
Colorado, the final frontier. These are the continuing voyages of Mountain Man Mike. His five year mission : to explore strange beautiful worlds. To boldly go where no semi has gone before! (with new tires thank God)
This is my home area. I grew up near Durango. My dad used to drive all those passes hauling cattle. I love when I get a load that takes me back home. Red Mountain and the Wolf are my favorite passes to drive!!
These high drop off roads make me dizzy but the scenery is spectacular! Thank you for taking us on this journey. Better you drive than me. I'd hug the side of the mountain I don't care if it is the wrong side! Safe travels.
The last time I went over red mountain there was a crazy rain storm and the road was closed due to a Mud slide right before the tunnel. Thanks for the ride Mike. Have a great night.
It can happen, it is not a tunnel, it is an avalanche shed. It keeps avalanches from closing the road. I guess it does not work so well for mud slides.
Used to live in Durango in the mid-70s. Always thought the north side of Red Mountain Pass was the most beautiful place I'd ever seen! Can't wait for my return trip there this August.
Nothing short of breathtaking stuff, here! As a guy who was raised with the East Coast ocean in his blood, and has always been drawn to the coastal areas, these views are giving me an identity crisis. Awesome stuff, brother! Thanks for the ride!
I travelled this road in 1997 with my wife. Loved Ouray, thru to Ridgway and SS West to Placerville, Dolores, Cortez into Mesa Verde to camp. The most amazing scenery we had ever experienced. Love the South West.
Wow! I was nervous in the comfort of my own home, lol. Many years ago, (1984) I rode the narrow-gauge railroad from Durango to Silverton and back. What a thrill that was! Now I have to go back and drive the road.
this is an amazing Mountain video. Absolutely gorgeous. Thank you so much for posting this video for us to see. Love the channel, and can't wait to see more Adventures
Your comment is so on point and I agree totally with what you say. It is like we are in the truck with him in the passenger seat. That is the mark of a truly great video creator. I've seen a few good ones in the virtual trucking aspect playing American Truck Simulator, but Riding Shotgun is the best that I've seen of IRL truckers OTR videos..
Dear man ,chaufeur , i give you mine respect there is constantly not a second to watchout contstantly allert , sleep, automatic pilot, its craftmenship to keep the rig right no braking unneserery cost money ectect. Again respect you drive a volvo a little europian . Great job tony Vermeulen from the Netherlands.
OMG...This is too much fun!!! I drove the narrow mountain roads 8n the British Virginia Islands and West Indies...seeing you drive this in your truck reminds me of the thrill of driving those roads back in the 70s! I woukd be squealing as I drive tgem...some of my visitors insisted on waking around those hair pin curves with mountain on one side and sheer drop to ocean way way beliw!
Good driving Mike! I drove my 2500 dodge ram pulling a 24 foot pull behind trailer over the 10,948 foot Beartooth pass, Wyoming. I can prove it as I still have my wife's left hand fingernail prints above my right knee cap.
3M you picked a perfect day for the ride and awesome scenery - Thank You. The curves made me dizzy, had to take a couple of breaks - almost like riding in the backseat and getting motion sickness.
I've never been in asemi ever until I rode with you on this trip. What an experience, beautiful scenery and equally dangerous. Thanks for the ride. New subscriber also.
Just found your channel. Thank you for your experience and respect in performing your trade. Most of all we really love the scenery your videos provide. One day we will flee the cornfields of Indiana and go for a drive.
That is a beautiful driver to take. You handled that with ease. Due to your professionalism/ duty towards safety. The only thing I know harder than Red Mountain Pass. Is driving Red Mountain Pass at night. Before it was fully paved it. Keep doing what you're doing bee safe and keep the dirty side down.
I drove this pass also known as the million dollar highway about 4 years ago. I left the silver ton store at 4am just to find out there was 4 inches of snow up top on the road. No plows had been out. Took me literally 3:45 minutes to make the pass into ouray. Definitely made my no return list. Btw I was in a 2016 kw t680 10speed. Pulling a 53foot spread axle. Beautiful run but not when it solid white.
Hello, I love your videos, so beatiful, so Is amazing the natural escenary,, Blessings for these LANDS. Thanks for sharing and show another face of THE UNITED STATES,, congratulation

Thanks for the ride. The first time our family took that trip was about the mid 60 s and was quite exciting. I was just as exciting with you as it was for me the first time.
well sir , you are an awesome truck driver. I'm a retired Law Enforcement Officer of 32 years and when I was on patrol I stopped semi trucks only, only when I had to. Because like you mentioned on your video ." we are working". Awesome video be careful out there and God Bless.
Remember as a child, my mother and father driving Red Mtn. in a 1952 Buick. Red Mtn. was fairly new....one lane gravel with pull outs for oncoming traffic. A sleight improvement over the wagon trail it had been..lol.
My OTR Trucker brother has traveled this highway man times over the years but will not do this at night time or in snowy conditions. I have been to "Shining" Hotel and it is beautiful. You are an excellent driver sir!
I made this run back in 1986 in a brand new Kenworth Anteater. 70 foot of tractor and trailer loaded with Humis.( glorified dirt) lol, I got loaded just north of Taos, NM headed north to Hotchkiss, CO. Thank goodness for youth and Jake Brakes. 1st and last time I ever took that highway.
Thank you for your videos. My dad wanted to go to Colorado especially for this area and he had me drive - I had never driven in the mountains, we live in Oklahoma. Truck drivers are ESSENTIAL to our economy.... without them America will freeze to its knees...

Thank you for having us as your co pilot... it's always a beautiful senic route everytime you drive through the mountains... thank you...
My Uncle was an Independent, he was carrying a load of swinging beef... Thank you love riding shot gun. It's been scary glad your driving. Its fun.
I'm 67 and my late dad was a trucker. When I was a kid, my dad took one of us kids with him. This reminds me if that precious memories. Keep it up
Lord knows I love your mountain runs, tks for the ride, love the scenery

Almost NO guardrails ‼️Dangerous road, even for cars❗️Great Video, thanks for taking us along👍
Guard rails should all be removed. Snow piles up drifts. They shade roads making ice . 2 wide loads meeting rails on both sides white knuckle it
You know why I like riding with you, Mike? You talk as if we're old friends...I love it!
A driving job like that on that highway you deserve a million dollars plus. Good job. Been watching your videos for some time now and you are one of the best I can say that.

NO WAY, NO How. NEVER!!! Kudos to you for what you do!
Colorado is too beautiful not to see, and too precious to abandon.
Von Mises
thank you for a beautiful road, this road looks like not for big truck.
i think, you are the best truck driver in usa.
You are so patient with other drivers! Thank you so much for sharing the road with us. I would not get to see these places otherwise.
With all the twists and turns , it doesn't afford much time to admire the amazing scenery.
I've done that road so many times on my Harley it basically drives it self. That view coming around that last turn with Ouray at the bottom is priceless.

Mike thanks for the ride, sure glad I was not in the truck with you because my breaks was not holding very well sitting here. That was AWESOME.
Around these curves I am sitting on the edge of my seat. Beautiful country. The mountains are beautiful. Have a great day.
Just finished watching both halves of the Million Dollar run - I'm exhausted. THANKS!
Mike would love to see the inside of your truck
I always watch these videos at night before I go to sleep, you are like Bob Ross but on semi trucks.
This place was like a Bob ross painting ! Nice video!
this gut is a pro driver for sure .........I drove there with my chevy equinox last month and I was terrified....................but it is gorgeous

It can happen, it is not a tunnel, it is an avalanche shed. It keeps avalanches from closing the road. I guess it does not work so well for mud slides.
Holy crap!! Man, one wrong mistake, and off you go, that takes a lot of concentration and nerves of steel. Good job sir.
