We call the Teddy Bear Cholla, “Jumping Cactus”. They seem to jump at you if you walk too close. You have to carry needle nose pliers to pull them out. They are like fish hooks, small hole going in and ripping big hole coming out! 😢
I live in Peoria and welcome to my little piece of the desert out here! The Boulders is a great area, and as you saw, New River Rd & Carefree Hwy area is becoming a "mini-Quartzsite", it seems. Resources: Lake Pleasant Pkwy & Happy Valley Rd area has "almost" everything you'd need for grocery/shopping/restaurants, etc. RV related supplies/repairs, go to State Trailer in Peoria (my camper is there now for electric brake wiring problems). Lake Pleasant is a nice day trip destination (wild seeing so much water forming a lake in the desert), and that's why the burro's are in the area... because of the water. Best Mexican food in Wickenburg is at El Ranchero. When you come back, take a trip to Crown King in the Spring or Fall (elevation is 5,800', and I prefer the much easier route from I-17 rather than the off-road 'back way' from Lake Pleasant). The Crown King Saloon makes a pretty decent burger and pulled pork sandwich. Safe travels to Parker! The drive on the 60 out of Wickenburg is really nice (I often go that way to Quartzsite rather than take I-10), and here's some fun... when you reach the town of Hope and need to turn on the 72, look for the humorous signs saying "You are now beyond Hope" (those folks have a good sense of humor!). Any time you have questions about the desert or need anything, just write! Pete in Arizona - KI7LIL
We call them jumping cholla, as they get you if you get anywhere near them. We see cattle with them stuck all over their faces. We wait several days after a good rain before going out on Az desert trails. Try the Peralta area in the East Phoenix valley. Dry camping there, also on Cottonwood Rd on highway 79 halfway to Florence with access to Box Canyon.
I'm watching this on February 18th. This morning it was 16° when the sun came up here in Burlington, CO. Yesterday morning in Greeley, CO, it was 9° when the sun came up. I'll take 50's, please!
Wow, what a bunch of fun doing the fence line even for a short ride! No Kellie wasn't whining, cold is cold no matter where you are. We have much colder up here in Toronto, I can whine because we just came back from Dominican where it was 82-85 every day for 28 days. Enjoy the races and I look forward to the next video. Drive safe and have fun. Byron
Cold is cold! You're absolutely correct Byron...sounds like you got a nice "recharge" with some sun. We're finally doing the same. Thanks for coming along!
We need those cool rainy days to make us appreciate the sunny ones I believe 😎 That place does look amazing! Thanks for sharing!! Stay warm and dry guys! ❤~W
Oh man, it has been the grayest and wettest winter here on the Southern Oregon coast since we’ve lived here. It’s normally a little banana belt where we are with loads of sunny warm weather. I ended up with a bout of Seasonal Affectual Disorder this year. Bummer. So, those sunny Arizona days are looking pretty good!! We’re getting close to our 1 year countdown to selling the place and hitting the road. I believe Arizona will be the first destination thanks to your amazing videos of SUNSHINE!!🫶🏼🌵🌞❤️
What an awesome spot! Honestly, the weather has been cold all over the US this winter - it has been really strange this year. Don't blame Kelli on that rocky hill, but I bet if you keep coming back, one day she will say YES! Safe travels.
We're certainly glad that winter is now over in the desert! Yes, we'll get back to the area and let Kellie drive up the hill herself! Stay safe and have a wonderful weekend!
Hi Jim and Kellie! Great video as usual. Glad you got a chance to go out and ride with your friends. My mom had a friend that lived in peoria, Arizona, but she since has passed away. She went there to visit her after we moved here to Vegas. But so glad that it warmed up for you and quit raining so you can ride. That poor dog with the bear cactus in him. Hope he’s ok now. It rained here to all last week. I drs appointment too it was tough driving in the rain. I had gotten my new glasses and they transition but I wanted to see if they were dark enough. But it was too cloudy for them to transition . I was laughing about it. Then the sun came out the next day and they were dark enough. I didn’t mean to bore you with my story. Hope I didn’t bore you. Can’t wait to see the video next of that Parker 500. I went to a race like that years ago out here when I first moved here. It was fun. If I’m thinking of the same race. I’m not that far from Pahrump. It’s warmed up here now! It was 64-65 this week. Loved it! Safe travels and see you both soon! Have a great week and great weekend. Stay safe.
I would be cold at 55 too. Live in SC and go south for warmer weather. I would have to have some grass! Not a fan of the dirt. YALL have a great setup. Enjoy!
I have always thought that was a pretty area and thought I'd like to move there. Did you go under the bridge in Wickenburg? We live in Parker. I thought I saw you on Shea Rd. We were camped in our toyhauler. We have been involved in the off-road races forever. We were not racing our truck but our son was co-driving a side-by-side.
Pahrump is a great place. While we don't RV yet, we have stayed there twice in AirBnbs. It's a great location to go to Death Valley, Beatty and several other places.
It warmed up to 39 F here. I feel guilty for walking the trash cans to the curb the other morning in my shorts and T. Be careful, don't get sunstroke out there. 🙂 62 sounds like you need lots of liquids, to me. Glad we got to ride along.
Awesome video folks! Great scenery and Kelly. I'm like you. I don't like it when it's cold or damp and I happen to wake up to go to the the bathroom when I when I saw the video popped up and I looked outside and it's snowing here. So yeah, I'm ready to leave the state. I'm ready to leave the cold, but so glad you got a good ride in and you're having a good time and I look forward to seeing a video from Parker. Have fun. Stay safe. God bless
Great video! I stayed at a Escapee's RV park in Congress, and drove up to the higher elevation area to see snow! Years ago I was up the hill from Congress and camped at a great place, (1993) but have not been able to find it again. I am happy remembering my travels back in 1992 - 2005! Many great boondocking places in Arizona! I stayed a week at the north rim in the summer, very pleasant weather, and lots of snow is typical until May 1.
As you take your HDT and fifth wheel up in elevation (5000, 6000 feet above sea level, do you need to change anything on your truck, toad, off track to make them run in the higher elevations?
Do you guys fill up with water tank before you head to your spot or do you haul water in containers? Just trying to figure out this boondocking thing 😁
We try and top off our fresh tank in the RV before we start the boondock. We don't like to carry a full tank of water while driving, so we look for the closest fresh water fill we can get.
Hey there we are needing some info on Starlink please? Our friend had it in Quartzsite and they charged him extra for something even through we only used it to watch our tv. It was a lot! Like 350.00 extra. Do they do this every time? When traveling I thought you could use it without extra charges? Thanks for any input you may have
Starlink has a number of tiers for pricing and we use the "Mobile-Regional" plan. It's a set $150 per month, but you can opt for "priority" service as well, which is more expensive. Maybe that's what happened. You should contact Starlink Customer Support.

Ugh....they're pretty, but nasty!

I like the Boulders OHV area. Lots of fun.
Oh it's such an awesome place...and we only got a chance to explore a small part of it. We will be back!
Perfect, no dust!
Hahaha...yup! But the mud puddles are sure messy!
We need those cool rainy days to make us appreciate the sunny ones I believe 😎 That place does look amazing! Thanks for sharing!! Stay warm and dry guys! ❤~W
Thanks Wendy. It's such a beautiful area. You're right, we really do appreciate the sunny days more after a week of gray and wet!

@@Mr.andMrs.Mike1217 That's so cool! Congratulations and hope we can cross paths again soon!
Crown King is a great ride. Worth the trip. In a little warmer weather.
That's what we've heard. We'll be back when we have time for some longer rides and can't wait!
Enjoy your time in the desert.
Thank you....we're having a blast!
You're very welcome.

The area looks fmiliar to where we boondocked a few years ago. Absolutely stunning……surrounded by the desert garden.
It's a huge area and so beautiful Jim....we can't wait to go back and explore the whole area!
I enjoyed the ride. The area looks beautiful. Thank you
Glad you enjoyed it! We appreciate you coming along...

Quite a bit actually...we used to put our two border collies in the back and they were fine.

Is this BLM Land? What is the stay limit?
Yes, we're on BLM land north of Phoenix and it's a 14 day stay.
