    Peace and grand risings to you bredren..... Oooo I love scotch bonnet peppers; they have a very unique and flavorful smell and taste when you cook with them. Not to mention the spice! I am Italy and I am trying my best to grow them here. I am trying to grow them from seeds...which from my research can take a very long time. I made a small greenhouse to help them germinate back in April. Last month they sprouted. And from what I researched, they can be slow growers, because they love hot weather; they are currently very very tiny but they have sprouted. They are about 4 -5 cm at this time. The weather here in southern Italy has finally broken and it is now hot hot hot; so I am hopeful.
    Peace and abundance

    Tried my hand at scotch bonnets and fish peppers this year. Noticed that my 2 scotch bonnet plants have different phenotypes.
    One plant has smooth, shiny/waxy peppers while the other plant produces peppers that have a dull sheen and are bumpy. Absolutely love these peppers! Using them to develop a pineapple hot sauce.

    • @humbleservantshomestead7974
      @humbleservantshomestead7974  3 года назад

      Hey Darron! Your seeds probably came from peppers that were cross pollinated or planted near other peppers. Berman and other pollinators do move from plant to plant so be careful when picking locations to plant your seeds. We tend to plant the scotch bonnets by themselves and the other peppers on the other side of the garden to prevent the cross up.

      Yes usually we the tree is bearing, you pluck the suckers off. That way all of the energy of the tree can direct towards making the peppers not nurturing the suckers.

      @@humbleservantshomestead7974 peppers don't cross pollinate as easily as people think. I grow 75 varieties in close proximity and have only seen one spontaneous cross over the years. Almost always the flower has self pollinated as it opens before wind or pollinators can affect the purity of the strain. When doing manual crosses you have to physically open the mother flower to pollinate before it self pollinates. Also, if you are growing to be cautious about cross pollination then you would have to grow approximately 3/4-1 mile apart (or as far as pollinators can travel). I see it often that people think it happens easily, it's simply not the case. Gorgeous looking pods and plants by the way!
