I’m a white New Orleans Creole and the first of my family settled in Bayou St. Jean (Bayou St. John) in 1708. My later family arrived in 1720 to the Vieux Carré (Old Square; this is the French Quarter) and my other family arrived in 1778 and 1779 during Spanish rule. Creole means to be a local person (of any race or ancestry) and especially those whose ancestors were in colonial Louisiana like mine. In colonial Louisiana, Creole meant local born person (of any race or ancestry).

I love my LaLwizyàna Kréolité (Black-LaLwizyànan) ethnic group's ancestry here in Louisiana.❤🔱🖤

Créolité is not only black. There are white Creoles, black Creoles, mixed race Creoles etc.

Great examples of how the Catholic Church restrained the brutality of European colonizers. I often bring this up when people mention the church as a driving force of colonialism in conversation.

you don't think that Catholicism (and all religion, really) has historically been a driving force behind imperialism?

    Deo Gratias
