This video starts with a little catch up first on what we've been up to but the main premise is to give you some awareness of Elopement of children on the spectrum, why it worries me, what we're trying to do to protect our children and we'd really love some of your ideas and feedback in the comments. Absolutely brilliant video! A worry for many ASD parents. Max flees in fight or flight mode for various reasons.
I would love to get involved with the database. It absolutely needs to be a police or authority held database due to safeguarding but it a fantastic idea and is certainly needed.
I have some contacts who I can approach if you like and make some initial enquiries? 😊
P. S love the new sofas and carpet 😍
It's something I've already been having dialog with local police and authorities. 100% would have to be a polce database like you say because of safeguarding but the fact they're trialling it proves to me it should already be done. If my point and case would be stronger by support I'll let you know. Hope you all well Claire
I heard service dogs really help with elopement because you can attach the dogs harness to the Childs belt and if the child tries to run away, the dog will stop them. Also, allowing the child to walk the dog gives them something else to focus on rather than running away
Working with lad with autism few years ago he use to run off all the time jump the 6ft fence etc.
We done the following
Make a list clothing before hand including under wear etc
Places that he normal would go too
If they like places and know where they are
Another person always use to go to car parks we would know
Think for us we make sure doors and gates are lock. As he get older we thinking higher fence again we need to think if he can climb about that.
Book the reason I jump the lad said he is to run off because he wanted to go somewhere or feel of running.
I remember at college one guy we tool running as it snapped him out of it but again he was two to one and he needed a fast runner. Get trampoline get them to use that energy on that. We take matt out to park in evenings if he hyper.
USA is more advance then us always have been.
George has cleared many a 6ft fence, Its a nightmare

Very scary elopement. My son is 13 and last year he took it upon himself to go on a midnight walk. He totally freaked me out. He climbed out the window and I heard something went to investigate and found him gone. Said he was worried and needed a walk 😬 it took me ages to get him to get the gist of why that was not a good idea holy moley not my best parenting moment
In lots of ways I'd love to have not a care in the world like my 2 but they just don't see danger the way any parent does. Bloody firghtening. Ill be a nervous wreck the time I'm 50

Still fighting for diagnosis but if we have to get somewhere its the buggy especially for medical appointments as he hates them and runs away. Otherwise I've learnt to wear running trainers. Harness he removes or drops to the floor. Used to use a carrier on my back for him but he is too heavy now 😔
Yes same here, We've had to stop using the special buggy we had as he's just got to big and doesn't want to be in it anymore. Are they dragging their heels in the diagnosis situation? Its a nightmare for many i know. Adam
@@AutismTwinsUs yeah awaiting assessment and with covid taking even longer. Worked with autistic adults for 8 years so know that's what it is.
I found that really frustrating, having to wait when they bang the drum about early intervention then children and parents are having to wait to be seen. The whole system needs to be sorted out. Hope you don't have to wait too long. Adam
