  • How To Restore Your Headlights and Make them like NEW AGAIN Demonstrated on Hyundai Sonata
► Our Website for Tools, Parts and more Videos: mechaniclifestyle.com
We got this Hyundai Sonata with very foggy and yellowish Headlights so we decided to try to restore them instead of buying new ones. It was really hard to see at night and now they are like new for less than 5 minutes a headlight.
We used 3M Rubbing Compound and 3m Machine Polish. Both are part of the Perfect-It line on 3M. We used this products to fix scratches too. You ca check the video here:
    • Scratch Repair. How to...
You will need 1200 and 2000 sandpaper. You can grab individual sheets for less than $2 at your local parts store.
Let us know what you guys think. It will work on ANY CAR with the Plastic Headlights. We Demonstrated on a 2006 Hyundai Sonata but Hyundai Santa Fe, Tucson, Elantra and any other make will be the same!

Thanks heaps guys, I appreciate it, I couldnt find the same 3M polish here but purchased a rubbing compound and machine polish and did it by hand, it took hours to do it by hand as I dont have an electric polisher but it worked perfectly, yes I have sore arms from it but I saved on buying new headlights which would have cost me hundreds of dollars.... Thank you again

Unfortunately on one of my headlights the hazing is coming from the inside of the light..and since it's not easy to open up the headlight unit I am just going to purchase some new ones.

+LorenaJocy G you can actually polish them by hand. It will take you longer but it will work. We have done them by hand in the past.

You can sand to about 400 grit and finish with a 2K clear coat spray. A cheaper 1K clear coat (standard can you'd get at a hardware store) will work for a year or so before yellowing. If you just polish as shown in this video the plastic will also yellow with time due to UV light from the sun. The plastic is coated with a UV protective layer from the factory but it fails as the car ages.

Hazem Hammad unless you want to crack the case open (not recommended as it will never be the same after that) I’d go to eBay and buy new lenses. They’re CHEAP now!
