One of the funniest cases of Death of the Author is the polar opposite: Life of the Author.
Jonathan Blow infamously would get into arguments with people about the meaning behind his games; frustrated that people misinterpreted his messages and themes.
I found this incredibly hilarious because his game Braid is very good at conveying multiple themes at once that can be easily digested by the 'reader' and pooped out into their own nugget of personal interpretation.
So the idea that a man who believes himself to be an artist, getting consistently upset at people's interpretation of his art is both funny and frustrating in equal measure.
You can either write poetry or you can write safety instructions; you can't do both.

Death of the author is now being applied in a slightly different manner in a lot of cases, which is enjoying media despite problematic creators. I don't know if we should consider it the same term, but it's equally helpful in enjoying media.

One of my pet peeves is good words and phrases being misused so much that they mutate and become unhelpful. What you're describing is just separating the art from the artist, which is a fine phrase. I can see the overlap, though; for instance, Orson Scott Card was an out anti-Semite, and there are parts of the Ender's Game saga where (while not always overtly anti-Semitic) you can REALLY tell. At the same time, you can enjoy Ender's Game without accepting anti-Semitic ideas by employing both death of the author (to interpret the story without them) and separating the art from the artist (to enjoy the story while not agreeing with the author on everything). Both of these ideas will be very useful in the future, when I publish my own book starring John Honeycomb, the world's most awesome slave trader

When I was little I played that character a lot without knowing anything about these things, I didn't even know that the character is not popular within the franchise haha.

Reiko could be so cool, they just chose to do nothing with him. I want NRS to give his character an honest refresh in the next game (along with some of the forgotten 3D era characters)
