I purchased this set in 1973 and this performance has stayed with me even after 44 years. It is my # 2 Mahler Tenth after Rattle and Berlin Philharmonic.
I don't see how any performance could be better than Bernstein's, with the Vienna Philharmonic: ruclips.net/video/vHyV8noUXC0/видео.html. This certainly isn't a better one.
This is not quite Cooke ll. By the time the score was published in August of 1976, many changes had been made by Cooke and his collaborators that differ considerably from Wynn Morris's recording. And Cooke lll, which was published in 1989, 13 years after Cooke's death, contains more changes and corrections by Cooke's collaborators. Unfortunately, both Inbal's 1992 recording and Gielen's 2005 recording use Cooke ll even though the superior Cooke lll had been published. And Gielen makes some unauthorized changes.
