Hi Gabriel, yes the switch on the left control alters the torque of the slew motors. Similarly on the opposite side of the controls there is a switch for the hoist which works in the same way and allows the hoist speed to be adjustable.
@@chrisshaw3368 you are correct. I should have left it at changing torque. I have adjusted my reply accordingly and removed the bollocks about top speed.
Zarko the red button on the end of the left control stick in the slew brake button. This is used to lock the crane in place and to stop it moving left or right. The red button on the end of the right control stick is what’s known as the creeper button. When this is depressed it reduces the speed of the hoist to 25% of its normal speed.
If I remember correctly on the Wolff it is not necessary to hit the red button before putting the crane in free slew. I’ve not operated a Wolff for a good while now but the Potain that I do operate does require the power to be switched off before you can hit free slew which I did find weird.

Ricardo Rodriguez there already are cranes that have cameras mounted on the hook block. These can be helpful on blind lifts but as an operator you are still 100% reliant on a good banksman. As to the smart glasses idea for me personally I don’t think they would be a good idea. The crane computer is really only used as a reference and is not something you would normally spend a lot of time with your attention focused on. These are just my own views however but are interesting questions. Ask other operators and I’m sure they’ll all think differently 😀
This is terrific feedback. One of the things I noticed is how important situational awareness is and I am concerned that paying too much attention to one thing at any given moment would be dangerous. I'm curious to see if anyone else could provide their opinion.

Hi Mark, yes there are different speed gears for the hoist, slew and trolley. On the Wolff cranes you can also alter the gear ratio for the hoist to avoid stressing the hoist motor when lifting heavier loads.

M G Horvath to work in the UK as a tower crane operator you need to pass a CPCS course. There are 3 centres. One in Glasgow, one in Sheffield and one in Norfolk. As far as I’m aware there are no conversion courses but if you are already working as an operator then it should be no problem for you. Judging by the standard of some of the cowboys with crane tickets it might even be possible to get one in a Kinder Egg. With the political situation in the UK regarding exiting the EU, I would think Germany as a far better option. There are cranes everywhere. I might even go there myself. Good luck.

Tower cranes generally aren’t heavy lifters. Mobile / crawler cranes have much higher lifting capacity than towers.

This is an old video and this crane didn’t have any camera system fitted. There are different camera systems available. I prefer the camera mounted to the hook block to the jib end camera system. On friday it was foggy and my jib end camera could see less than I could. Block cam would have allowed me to see much better. Do you have a preferred camera system yourself?
