I've said it before and I'll say it again. This channel is without equal, the finest automotive documentaries on the planet! Brian, May you and your family have a very Merry Christmas. Thank you for everything you do. We all appreciate your efforts to expose us to things we never knew but always wanted to.
Once again a great documentary - I often wondered what happened to Scotty - now I know Thanks for keeping our sport alive on the grass roots level and from whence it came.
Another wonderfully researched video. Love the old magazine and newspaper clippings, excellent job documenting the early history of the sport. Thanks Brian for all you do!
Fascinating story! I was a drag racing fan during the 70s and 80's, wasn't aware of Scotty during that time. But what a character, pity he passed away so young.
As always a very interesting and fun clip, this guy was something else, drag racing is full of characters. Always look forward to see what's coming next, thanks Brian.
Them was the days! He sounds like a real piece of work, absolutely in the right place at the right time and ego burned to the ground. Knew a little of this story but WAY crazier then I knew. again, Thanks Brian
Great stuff. I had read some things about Fenn's nefarious dealings. You're like the Paul Harvey of drag racing telling "the rest of the story." Thanks!
Another story I didn't see coming. There are a long line of geniuses that couldn't quite slow down their brains enough to make them practical. We had a local legend in Cincinnati Ohio by the name of Karl Cleve. He's supposedly the decendent of the family that settled Cleves Ohio and he had a long string of wild looking customs, he claimed to have been instrumental in the development of the atomic bomb and claimed that's the root of his bizarre behavior. He had a bomber on one of his numerous properties that he had fashioned into a bomb shelter. You never seem to lack for material but he's a possible subject. Thank You again for the wonderful history lessons. Merry Christmas and a very Happy New Year to you and yours.
Thanks so much Brian. Another Gem. Big fan of your channel. Look up Chuck Porter. Another pioneer in hot rod/sports car history. His bloviated Army record will even surpass that of Mr.Fenn. Should make another fine chapter for you. PS. I'm sure Don Garlits could add a lot to the Scotty Fenn story.
All the time I was watching, I was thinking if this guy had gotten to the late 60s still in business, Funny Cars would have been his best sellers... thanks Brian for another great video! MERRY CHRISTMAS
Thanks for an another year of great stories. It’s fascinating to hear about all the crazy pioneers of the sports. Looking forward to your next ones. Merry Christmas and have a Happy new year. Hope to see you at some point e drag and drive events over the summer.
This has to be one of the best ones yet. My dad started with a K-88 chassis in Pittsburgh and sold it when he & my mom pulled up stakes and moved to California to go racing. The timing fits for when my mom worked at Drag News for when Scotty had his dust up with Wally. Wish I could ask her about that for sure. And Wally's attorney, Robert J. Gottleib. I think I know that name... Another take away: One of the ads you showed had speed shops list where you could order a Chassis Research car: Champion Speed Shop & Don's Speed Shop in Tampa, Florida. Guess who?
Awesome as always Brian. I knew Scott there was a bit controversial, but not to this extent. Thank you for another great history lesson. One thing did stick out to me for another reason was Robert Gottlieb, the NHRA Lawyer. Can't remember how far back, but I suggested doing a story on the Big Red Camaro that won the first Silver State Classic. Oddly enough, the people that built it were the Gottliebs. I am not sure if there is a connection there, but it would be interesting if there was. What I find interesting is some how, or some way, many of these stories will tie in to another story somewhere down the line.
Fascinating. I had heard the name Scotty Fenn but knew nothing of him. The Coleman Brothers had quite a reputation here in Maryland. I had no idea of the connection between them. Thanks for presenting us this interesting history. Merry Christmas!
The guy is hilariously inept and borderline fraudulent, yet he produced 1700 chassis' that somehow worked lol. Another great presentation Brian, thanks for taking the time to research this stuff!!
Im originally from Dayton Ohio and born in the late 70s. Bill "the kid" Stepp was a local drag racer and "mob" figure that had ties to Sox & Martin and was pretty successful racing Mopars. I would love if you did a video on Bill Stepp, his life, and shenanigans. They tried relentlessly to convict him for many things and they failed every time. Another Dayton interesting personality to look into is Salt Walther. Thank you.
I’m still running a P.A.W. Speed Shop engine that I bought as a kit in summer 1986. The machine work was excellent. Came delivered by truck freight to Gainesville, Florida, in seven crates! They would be a worthy subject for a story. I also seem to recall them sponsoring Shirley Muldowney’s dragster in the late 80’s.
Very interesting story. The guy was part genius especially on the marketing side for himself. Too bad there aren't more kids today trying to reinvent the wheel so to speak. The new "widget" in drag racing hasn't been built yet. Cool story. I'm looking forward for the next one. Merry Christmas.
I would love a story on logi classic and how they dominated funny car racing. I have had square tube chassis and logi chassis and man what a difference. Have at it Brian
So, Fenn was the Hap Shaughnessy of drag racing is what you’re saying. I love this kind of stuff, but can only imagine how frustrating researching this episode must have been!
Thanks for exploring a topic I had always wondered about. Excellent jib, as usual! Of course, I'm now wondering about what the kids are up to and what their thoughts/stories about their Dad are. We'll probably never know. I do recall reading that some of the dragster builders in the mid-60s would refer to Chassis Research as " Chassis Guesswork" as a dig. My guess is it was a response to Scotty's opinions and personality, rather than the actual dragsters.
Hello man, I discovered your channel a few months ago, and I really love it. Considering you made an amazing video on the Moto Guzzi 500cc V8, I really recommend you check out Alfa Romeo's 158/159 Alfetta, which had a straight-8 1500 cc compound supercharged engine with 2 roots blowers, or BRM's P15 V-16 , which also has 1500cc displacement but double the cylinders
Then and even now, people still amaze me what they do and don't. That also includes our world leaders. If they deserve that title. Merry Christmas 🎄🎁 Brian.
@ First time in 20 years we did most of the wrapping two days before Christmas. Tried to have it done by Christmas Eve but couldn’t quite pull it off. Lol
"During a drop in the Philippines a miscalculation sent him behind the Japanese lines." The whole point of having paratroopers is to put them down behind enemy lines. Yes, yes, I get it that they were saying "not the spot behind the Japanese lines that they were intended for" and my point is somewhat pedantic (particularly when attached to Mr. Fenn's hogwash story) but Scotty's fantasy does a double disservice to those soldiers in WWII who volunteered for the mission of (deliberately) dropping behind established lines. Great research, Brian. Your dedication to the story is amazing.
This guy really was stuck in his ways, a block head that refuse to change with the times and ended up being forgotten after passing way it's bitter sweet story of mechcanical wild man that should't had being hot head anyway thanks for the video and have a nice christmas eve bye now.
You are correcting drag racing history. A strange quest, but we cannot learn from history if we lie about history.
Thanks! These explorations are legitimately fascinating to undertake!
This channel is criminally underrated. Merry Christmas Brian! Thank you for these stories.
Thanks for watching them John!
I can’t imagine how much time it takes to research an episode like this but we are all more knowledgeable thanks to your efforts.

I was the door-gunner on the space shuttle in the 80's. Most people don't know this because it's so top secret. 👌
Hahahaha
@@brianlohnes3079 Brian , google is now offering to translate your replys to English .

Scotty Fenn; A Legend in His Own Mind, lol......still a brilliant character and a very interesting story. Thanks!
That sums it up!!
Damn now thats a story! Sounds like you put some serious time into that research. Thanks again
