I have had my Gobi stealth rack for 4 years and am very happy with it. The lead time during the pandemic was not an issue. My rack arrived two weeks before my trip departure date.
Ordered mine on 12/1 They told me 16 weeks. I knew this going in ( cause you told us😉) so it was easy to plan ahead. Gives me time to get my White Knuckle sliders ordered and installed. 2020 is build year for my ‘99 UZJ100. woohoo
My Gobi stealth rack arrived the day I joined overland bound, 10/7/19. Ordered it 6/7/19. Not so bad for a quality product. I spent the following two evenings installing it. I can tell you, a stealth rack on a four door Wrangler is not only extremely handy, it looks great too.
Earth to Mikey, Earth to Mikey I liked it alot!!!! Over! It was very nice to meet you and your lad today @ the meeting in Pleasanton. Also, very nice to meet fellow O.B members today, too. Enjoyed it immensely to see the assorted rigs, with their varied levels of kit and swag. Cheers, Mate.
From this video. you can SEE. that. this roof rack. is very. DURABLE. It is a GREAT. option. for those that aren't. CONCERNED. about PRICE. while NEEDING. high quality. equipment. Thank you for your emPHAsis. It really adds to the reviewing experience.
Thanks for the review. I also wanted to thank you for enunciating well when you speak. So many people just mumble and are so lip lazy. Great engwish :)
Your lucky. I also order mine in August for a trip at the end of the year. I asked for a status up date and all a got was "I'll follow up with an update". That was 3 weeks ago.
I have used the Warrior Products platform since 2013 on my FJ exposed to the Texas sun when is not being traveled on and I cannot say enough good things about the rack...got it in three weeks, has several attachment options and is solid. Is rated for 1100lb of dynamic weight, unfortunately I have had to stop hard with a full loaded rack at high speed and has never gotten loose or failed in any way.
Got my Stealth Gobi Rack a year ago second hand and I have appreciated having it. The low clearance is the only thing I gripe about since it makes attaching things to the rack harder, but I always figure it out, or have my wife help with her small hands and wrist.
If I purchase the Gobi Ranger, are there roof top tents that can be placed on it? I know the stealth is probably a better choice, but I like the higher side rails for everyday use.
mike, your hodge podge of mounting plates really is not as bad as you think. yes the screws are loose but you dont have to take it to a fab shop to correct the problem. at rivnuts to the rack at the places you have already drilled. the rivnuts use a machine screw and the installation of the rivnut is very simple. look on amazon for a kit. something like 1/4-20 would be perfect. use locktite and lockerwasher/ washer on your hardware so it will resist backing out. i love your content. if your still in the area of livermore, hit me up. im in the santa cruz mtnz.
Great video! Been looking for a flat rack for FJ, hoping to add hardshell RTT in the spring. Would love to hear what has worked for people and RTT's! Honestly struggling with the look and the cost of a lot of these racks...
Ordered my stealth rack just a few weeks ago and like David said it's about a 16 week wait they said. I think now the cross bars might be bolt in but I can't wait to get it in. Are Gobi guys using just standard tie down straps? I have Plano cases I'd like to get tied down.
Can you give details on how you wired your lights through the roof? Can you give any insight as to why you chose the Ranger over the Stealth? I can’t decide! I know I am going with the “no rise” option. Both look nice. I’m not going to use a RTT. I am thinking about using some mounts from FrontRunner for gas and water storage. I’m not sure if the higher sides of the Ranger the interfere with that.
You can replace the rubber grommets. They are very cheap along with that plastic twist knob. Keep in mind stainless steel bolts should have stainless steel hardware. Or they will rust faster if you don't.
They do, but it is going to run you close to the price of an XJ. I might recommend JCR builder brackets and have a fabricator friend make exactly what you want
Nice review. I just have to disagree that a rack has to be one piece. Your Land Cruiser is made of thousands of parts, and yes, it requires some maintenance to keep them all together over the years. So you’re saying that the Patriot Camper Trailers equipped with extruded aluminum Rhino Racks are going to fall apart? Have you seen how they beat those things up and the places they take them? One thing that I think should be the part of any rack review is the cost of accessories. I own two Rhino Rack Pioneer platforms, and I think the accessories are ridiculously overpriced. Which is why I’ve started fabricating my own. That’s my biggest gripe with the rack. But the ridiculous price tag just comes with the territory. Anything with the words “overland”, “expedition”, or “tactical” in the marketing campaign is usually about 300% overpriced.
Corrie Murguia sure, but I thought it was stated in a pretty assertive manner. Don’t remember the exact phrasing, but something along the lines of “whatever rack you choose, make sure it’s a one piece”. No biggie, I’m just pointing out that I disagree with that statement 😜

The Gobi rack is worth the wait!
Ordered mine on 12/1

You gave me peace of mind. 9 years review on that rack. I know mine it's gonna last

This is better than any unboxing install video.

Haha, it was nice to meet you too!
Thanks Michael! My very first video I watched of yours was your very first roof rack video!
you and your fam have done a fantastic thing here, adventure on!
I had mine (stealth) ordered 3 years ago after watched Overland Bound Videos. I loved it. 👍

Love my Gobi Stealth on the JKUR. Buy once and cry once.

Take care of your axe, boiled linseed for the handle and file the thing.
I ordered my GOBI on August 9th. They just billed my CC on December 6th and said it was getting ready to be shipped.

Great review
Great review. Thanks!
Would double nutting the clamps keep them from backing off?
How loud is the rack on the highway? considering on for my jeep jl.
Our rack is invaluable for our family of 5 in a 4Runner.
Does the rust fall onto and ruin the paint of the car?

That’s what I use! Ratchet straps.
@@OverlandBound thanks!
You should come to Australia for a trip
Dig the rack. Been thinking about getting a Gobi rack for my Cherokee but the price tag has held me back.
Ordered mine in Sept and got it Jan 30.
Hi, did you posted The Gobi Website?

Can the drip rails on the 80 handle the weight of Roof top tent and 2 people?? I'm on the fence about drip rail mounted racks. Thanks
Yes it did! 800lb static’s load limit.

Do they make one for the Landcruiser prado 120 series though !!
2021 Chevy Tailblazer aftermarket please hurry!!!! lol
That’s a great rack. Will have to see if they make one for my XJ.
They do, but it is going to run you close to the price of an XJ. I might recommend JCR builder brackets and have a fabricator friend make exactly what you want
I want 4-5 jerry cans in a row up top ratcheted down and maybe a tent. Ratchets to bars and not grill grate right? Thanks to whoever replies
Correct. The grill grate could warp if you really cinched them down or during some rough travel.
Hi where is the best place to get this roof rack?
Gobi Ranger Rack!
It's just too bad it takes like 9 years to get a Gobi these days O_o
Yeah. I'm eight months in. Hopefully soon 🤞
Оте керемет екен, багажник 👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍Қазақстан. .
Love my gobi but it took 8-9 months

Henrik M re: one piece - It’s a preference.
I use Loctite 242 (blue) these days on a lot of fasteners for mounts. Seems to work well.
Corrie Murguia sure, but I thought it was stated in a pretty assertive manner. Don’t remember the exact phrasing, but something along the lines of “whatever rack you choose, make sure it’s a one piece”. No biggie, I’m just pointing out that I disagree with that statement 😜
Rhino racks are the best by far you pay for what you get
I’m still rocking a 3 piece ConFerr. Never let me down. Wish they were still around.
Buy once cry once. 9 years is great proof
I just wanna stand on it, watch fireworks etc
an offroad vehicle but still on the road.
