❣DIY Enchanted Fairy House Lamp Using Coke Plastic Bottles❣

- Hello, in this tutorial I show you how I made an enchanted fairy house lamp using nothing but coca cola plastic bottles, tin foil, paint, hot glue and paper clay. This is a great way to teach children about recycling and also stimulate their creativity and imagination.
I first glued the bottles together in the position I wanted. Then I cut the bottoms of the bottles. Next step is to build the shape of the house using tin foil and hot glue. This is a fast way to achieve a basic volume that will be the base for our paper clay. We are also marking with tin foil the places where the windows will be on the plastic bottles. Considering it will be a lamp you should draw as many windows as you can so the light will come out nicely. I made some mushrooms under some of my windows. I used some metal wire from a hanger for the curly roofs and for the leaf from above the door. You should now have the general shape of your fairy house. Cover everything with paper clay. You can work in one layer or, if you are a beginner you should work in two layers, one for covering the surface and the second one for the details like windows, door, wood texture, bark, mushrooms, door steps, curly roofs. After the paper clay is dry you can easily add more details using tin foil and hot glue, like I did for some of the windows. Let everything dry. I used watercolors and acrylic paint for painting because I like working in layers and be able to change if I don't like the way it looks. In the end you can seal the paint using some matte spray varnish. I placed some battery LED lights under the house. I recommend you use soft lights that will gently illuminate your windows so it looks like a real house. DON'T USE HOT LIGHTS!

The homemade one is not that soft and is only good for textured surfaces like stones and tree bark. It is very cheap to make so it might worth to sand it and work it a little more than buying a paper clay. However, you can't keep it more than 5 to 7 days in the fridge. It has the best consistency when you just made it and it's fresh, so I would recommend you use it in the same day or the next and don't make more than you need
3. Can I use air dry clay? What's the difference between air dry clay and paper clay?
Often times shops will sell both paper clay and ceramic clay with the same label "air dry clay". It's true, both are air hardening but there are quite a few differences: air dry clay(ceramic clay) is actually mud, natural clay, while paper clay is made with cellulose and other ingredients. Paper clay is stronger than air dry clay(ceramic clay). Air dry clay (ceramic clay) shrinks and the paper clay does not shrink. This is why paper clay is the better choice for my kind of projects. My projects usually require you to cover a jar or a plastic bottle. If the air dry clay shrinks and the bottle or jar remain the same size... you guessed it... your air dry clay will crack all around. It might be a lot cheaper but it's not what you need for these projects.
4. My clay cracks, how do you cover the cracks?
You don't, you change your air dry clay to a paper clay! See why at the previous question
5. How to waterproof my paper clay creations?
I recommend using a yacht varnish. Apply a few coats and make sure you cover it all around so no water touches your clay

Boy, do I feel stupid. I wrote, earlier, that my clay was cracking and falling apart and asking for reasons why. Well, I read through the thread and discovered that I am using the wrong clay. I am so in love with this that I cannot stand it! This weekend I am totally hitting the art store and getting started on one of these babies! I've made jewelry since I was 12 (I'm 43) and worked my way up to creating with hot glass. But I love working with clay, using my hands, sculpting, etc. I've made some cool pendants out of clay. I like small intricate work, my fine motor skills are much better than my gross motor (you do NOT want to see me dance!) I can't wait!!

Это состав холодного фарфора ..основа бумажная жижа из туалетной бумаги ..клей пва немного муки и крахмала .можно добавить шпатлевку ....масса готова .Про это есть в инете кругом ..

How long did it take you to make this magical fairy house?
probably some hours because you have to find a way how to apply the hot glue were it won't melt the bottle and for the clay thing to harden plus doing the designs and painting or if you're thinking of adding more to it

что за материал для лепки использовали?
Мне кажется это обычная замазка для рам
А мне кажеться, что это обычная белая глина. Замазка быстро сохнет, что может влиятельно повлиять на вырезку и растяжку там где нужно, а глина послушная в этих делах, ей легко управлять самим.
А может соленое тесто？

Hi, I just wanted to say I tried to make this Fairy House just like yours. Well, I made one that looks like a child made it. I love it and took it too my classroom at an elementary school. The children loved it and put my miniature Minions all over it. Oh, my behalf I made it while recovering from carpal tunnel and cubital tunnel surgery. Thank you so much for sharing your talent.
