My sister in law and her husband lived in Greeneville most of their life ....they mostly grew tobacco and lived a frugal life but was very happy with their life style. My wife and I live in West Virginia but Greeneville is one of the few places we would live other then here.
We just sold our home in MT. and are in the process of purchasing land in Greeneville. Hopefully our paths will cross as my wife and I are very much into gardening, and a self sustaining life style.

On my way to Greeneville seeking a better quality of life. If you know of a room mate or small cabin rental please let me know. Looking forward to the countryside which I was looking for in my big box transfer at Hixson. Hixson is the polar opposite and just left after someone recommended Greeneville. Sitting at a rest stop and came upon your video. It gives me some hope for TN after what I experienced. Thanks for posting. Oddly, if I couldn't find a place to live I was going to drive as far north as possible back to my home State NY.
Excellent video! You are my hero! Living the way I would love to live! I live on one of the biggest hills in town. You would definitely love the view here overlooking the mountains. If I'm ever out your way will have to ride and check out your farm and it would be cool to meet you! God bless! 🙂✌️
This place is awesome! You've done a wonderful job! but how about winter? How do you protect your vegetables from cold, snow and long lasting rainfalls ? ...a friend from Greece.
Winter is not a season for vegetables and fruits. You plant everything in spring, then wait for it to grow until summer and autumn. After that you make preservations for winter. You need to make enough preservations to live through winter. Potatoes, onions, apples preserve well in cold. Some other food like tomatoes and cucumbers has to be rolled up in sealed cans. Sometimes when the harvest is bad there can be not enough preservations. This is the biggest risk so there should always be some preservations made for longer term from previous harvests.
Just tilled up my garden today. I'm in Hawkins county TN. I moved here from Florida. The soil (clay) is very different than the soil in Florida. I look forward to spring every year because I love gardening and harvesting food I grew myself.
I like between rogersville and beans station in hawkins family. Moved here from california in the mojave desert. I love how lush it is here. But the clay soil is definately a learning curve hahahaah
My grandparents had a farm around Greenville that they inherited that has been in the family for over a hundred fifty years and I remember outside of there kitchen door was a Paw Paw tree I was only there a couple of times I do love that area and I'm trying to find a property in the country around Greenville Tennessee.
Hi Melissa...I am in NY and I have been looking at Greenville because it seems that it hosts lots of healthy organic food options and like minded people. Can you recommend a good real estate agent who believes and understands soil and organic and such?
Honestly I don't know anyone but I will look into it. I live here and basically all the land is fertile. I've been many places and there is nowhere on earth like this that I have found.
Really enjoyed this video and glad you settled on Greene County. Gonna find out more about the supper club and hope my wife Bren and I can soon enjoy one of your dinners. We were on the board of The Depot Street Farmers market up till 2018 and took a break. We love the interaction with the community and the people. If you are not familiar with the market please check it out. All local vendors and must be within a 50 mile radius of Greeneville. Best of luck. Bill Jones, Nolichucky Treasures, Chuckey, Tn.
I live in Chuckey TN, so happy to see what's going on in our community. I was an over the road truck driver when we moved here so didn't get to check out much, but now, fully retired I'm excited about getting to know this area of TN (I immigrated from the plateau after a divorce)!
The way the farmers here make money on what they grow is to prepare it for sale , for instance, an apple and peach orchard near me sale here fruit at a high price so that it does not all sale and then they make cider , preserves, jelly’s, pies, and dried fruit , now that is when they began to get some extra money for there work. You can well understand that coming from Taxachusetts. Lol if it gets any more crazy I may pack up and head back to Texas. Best wishes and prayers to you that you find your blessings!!
I’m a little late here but hope things are going well. I just shake my head at people nowadays that look down their noses at living this way. All those people with all their ‘ things’ they’ve accumulated and they still are miserable.
