Being rich or poor is mostly down to dumb luck of where you were born. I might have advanced degrees, a nice tech job, and suburban house in the US, but I was born poor in the Philippines. Luckily my parents had just enough money, the opportunity and the foresight to emigrate to the US back in the 70's. I look at these videos and think that could easily have been my life and I'm thankful for the decisions and luck my family had decades ago. On the flip side, there's a lot of life and activity here.
I wouldn't call that luck. I bet your parents worked hard and sacrificed a lot to get your family to a place that provided opportunities for a better life.
And your grandfather fought for better wages and stopped the robber barons from stealing all the money , filipinos and their "bahala na" attitude never did that
@@JoeVoll-wg2zg Of course they worked hard, sacrificed, and tried to make good decisions, but so do most poor struggling families. However, most don't have paths to college or a relative that can sponsor emigration, and any number of opportunities, which can also be called luck. My point is life isn't fair - it's not a level playing field, and not as much of a meritocracy as we were raised to believe. The vast majority of wealthy folks are rich because of generational wealth and the connections/opportunities not available to most.
