No shame in talking endlessly about documentary filmmaking Mark! We all appreciate your insight into your process!
Thanks Tucker!!
I concur! @Tucker K Anderson - Filmmaker

thank you Mark. As always you give so much. thank you ...
Thanks Mark! Stoked for the course 👌🏽
Pumped to have you a part of it
I did not realize the changes in pace that came from the camera movement. That is so cool! Makes alot of sense.
🍍
I can't realise I'm gonna watch the BTS of this amazing documentary FOR FREE! Thank you Mark!
Always great to hang out in these videos with you Mark! Thanks for just showing up and being the man!
Always! haha, thanks for showing up and watching!
Thanks for these tips Mark - been learning tip #2 the hard way lately. I'm spending way too much time editing which has pushed me to ask better/more direct questions. You almost have to work in reverse - figure out what you want the subject to say that supports your theme, then figure out the best question to illicit that response.
totally, working in reverse is important!
@@markbone how to edit 30 hours of spoken words down? I got three hourcedit now, cant imagine how to cutdown to 20mins?
I cannot afford to take any filmmaking classes. So, your videos are really helpful and I sincerely note down all that you say in your videos. Thank you, Mark Bone. God bless you.
GREAT CONTENT!🍍🍍🍍
Love the High Production Value.
I like those tips ... good timing as I'm in the middle of editing my documentary.
Thank you so much for these tips!! There's so much here I wouldn't have considered.
I've bought a lot of different lut packs. Yours is one of the best. Sony Cinema and Phantom luts are the only ones I use out of everything I've bought!
Thanks for using the LUT pack mate. i tried to keep the whole pack straight forward and effective. It's all the LUTS i use regularly
Very helpful, thank you!
Great advice Mark. Thanks bro
So much value every time, can’t wait for the course release!🔥🍍
🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻 thanks JC!!!
I'd love to see a whole idea about creating rules for filmmaking, this idea is something I've never heard about and couldn't find anything very easily online. Great tips as always! Looking forward to the course
Thank you again for the effort you put into these informative videos. Perfect mix between entertainment and educative content.
my pleasure!!
Great lesson!
Great tips. The RUclips videos are helping a lot. Can’t wait for the course to open back up! Love it Mark 🍍🍍🍍
Can't wait to have you a part of the course!!
Love to watch your videos there's so much inspiration each one of them.
🍍🥭🍍
Wonderful insight for an amazing short film. Thanks Mark for your continued guidance and passion for the medium. It’s been a huge help
Also 🍍 lol
@@InaiahLujanMusic haha, glad you watched the whole thing, and so glad the video helped!
@@markbone 🙏🏽🧡✌🏽
Excellent Tips and AMAZING work!
Overall very inspiring. Thank you for your dedication.
I soaked through all advice and finally went through the your gear breakdown and left with one question:
Audio gear?
This content is greatly appreciated!
Man, your videos are so cool! They are informative and also just great to look at 🙏
Wow simple,concise advice right here.
‘Timeless filmmaking’….. thanks Mark. Always find your videos educational.👍
I forgot to add….. the scenes that showed he was alone? I could feel the loneliness, as if he’s actually still going through that struggle of selfish vs selflessness.
Love it.
Always on the 1%, team🍍
Really like how you call it "know the rules." Love my Falcon eyes too. They blew me away when I first got them, and still holding up years later.
Soooooo good!!! Thanks for the knowledge nuggets, brother!!
Any time!
Great Work as ALWAYS!!!🍍
Such a great upload, love the point at 5:17 as well lol
Thanks for all the BTS info! I have been a huge fan of Falcon Eyes, but recently picked up a CLAR FlexLite 24x24, and I gotta say, I've been very happy with the results thus far and the build quality is great. You may already know of this light, but just in case, figured I'd share.
🍍 great insight on how a documentary should be shot , I will be applying this great information on my first documentary soon..
Love your insight, I always find something useful to help me improve in the craft! 💯✔️🙏
Been waiting for this brother !
I love it when you go into "What is the Theme or Soul of the piece". I really think you should check out Brian Mcdonald, a filmmaker, and screenwriter. He wrote Invisible Ink one of the greatest books on story structure out there, and what you call a soul he calls an Armature. Like sculpture, your film hangs off your theme or 'Armature'. I find this to be so useful in my own work.
I find that all my favorite filmmakers and authors have in common is that below the surface of what they made, there is always an armature.
Thanks for an awesome video. It has helped me on my journey amazingly. :D

Awesome stuff man! I’ve always loved your DP work and only slightly considered making a documentary, but after this last film I’m really considering making a doc!
I am very impressed with the image that comes out of that FX9! Thanks for the tips man, have a good work week Mark.
Yeah it’s not far off from the alexa
🍍 I knew it was Helios! Great job, Mark!
So cool it’s really helped me before I didn’t have much to apply your techniques to but I’ve just got a job that your teachings will come in sooooooo handy Thank you so much man 🍍
🍍 You the man. Thank you so much for this video and not getting lost in gear talk.
my pleasure
Great tips, thank you so much for sharing with us!!! Caught a typo at 5:56 (“Capture” misspelled), probably too late now. Love that haze, really adds a great atmosphere.
I know! But I spelled it correct a couple seconds later hahaha!
@@markbone Too bad you can’t replace a video like Vimeo!
Great video as always! I can't remember if you have discussed this before (you probably have), but it would be great to know how you go about getting an idea for a doco but then actually talking to the subject for the first time about it?
It’s a great topic, we actually talk about this extensively in our documentary course! The course opens back up on sept 7th
@@markbone I'll make sure to check it out
Great tip sir
🍍Great video learned a lot thanks
🙏🏻
I always learn something from these videos! 🍍
My new Journey is about to begin, time to get into telling this story. Thanks again for providing such great content! 🍍 The mini Doc was awesome!
This was a great video; now I’m most definitely inspired to shoot a documentary soon 🍍🍍🍍
Hey Mark Bone, love your work, youre one of my inspiration, can you have a full bts on a documentary filmmaking? i've notice some other filmmakers to this on their course, like an hour video compiled for the bts shoot, waiting for you next The Art of Documentary course
Amazing content as always man!
Appreciate it! thanks Sebastian
Loved ! 😉 and also a.... 🍍 !
Always inspiring. Will have to make. Some sort of doc sometime. Try an find a good story to tell. The LUTS... The camera i use at the moment doesn't shoot in LOG. I plan to upgrade in the coming months but would they still work with regular. Footage in the mean time?
You can always apply the LUTS at like 20% to 30% power but they work best on LOG
@@markbone thanks. I've never bought any LUTS but the look of your documentaries is great. I'll be upgrading soon so perhaps a good investment for when I do at least.
🍍🍍 it's always a pleasure learning from you sir.
It’s my pleasure
Hello Mark, congratulation for the last doc. he is very inspiring! For the Art of documentary course,
there is still no translation? Same as on RUclips with closed captioning and machine translation?
At this time, with the platform we use there is no translation or captioning. Hope to provide it in the future!
@@markbone I hope too!

Thanks bro!
Thank you!
🍍 Watching your videos is making me so excited about shooting my second documentary next week! You have taught me so much more than what I have learned in a three months workshop.
Is your module closed captioned? I would love to join it.
Beautiful film, i am enjoying every minute or this content, last year i decide to drop everything to pursue my dream of becoming a documentary filmaker. Whenever i get the money i will pay for your course thats the goal so thank you ! I am shooting on a A7III are your cinema LUTS compatible if I shoot un SLog 2 or HLG2 ? Thank you for this priceless content !
Just for my info, when using the helios wich is a 58mm on the fx9, what is the crop factor/final focal length equivalent to full frame (including the adapter if needed ...) ! Thanks !
Thank you from N.Z. Enjoying everything you post. 🍍 emoji 😂
Definitely going to apply this to my next shoot 🍍🕺🏿
Love these 🍍
🍍 class mate, literally watching with my notebook every time. 📝

@@markbone thanks man and again thanks for the words of advice, greatly appreciated!
🍍 pineapples are for spongebobs that live under the sea 🤣 superb information. These are very helpful tips and I love diving into my own work like this. I’m currently developing a documentary series about recovering artists and I am learning so much on your channel! I can’t thank you enough!
Glad it was helpful!
🍍 Thank you for your tips, Mark, seeing your videos always makes me excited to start shooting!
Why don't use Fx9 Variable ND?
Anyway your film is always amazing. Thank you!
🍏 Looking for a pineapple took too long. Here's my half attempt. Cool and informative stuff. I like that Russian lens. It's got a "je ne sais quoi" thang. I did that for you because of the Canadian/French thang. :D
I love to make documentaries 😍 it is hard work but at the end, if the result is good, you are totally satisfied with all 💪🏼😉
Thank you for all of this gold. 🍍
You're welcome Eugene!!
Great tips Mark! 🍍
I want to try shooting a documentary but I still haven't found an idea or an interesting person to document. 😎
🍍 Thanks Mark very helpful (as always)

I am so in to your channel, I am about to shoot my first documentary and thanks to you a learned so much 🙏🏾🙏🏾
yeasss!! Go crush it!!
🍍🍍🍍 great video!
watched!
Can we have your list of focused questions ?
Hey mark, did you shoot log on those low light shots ?
I recently started shouting log on my r6 and I shoot in a gym with low (but cool) lighting. My shadows get destroyed though ?
My low light shots aren't actually that low light, I just use a real low exposure LUT to monitor my image and lots of ND
Thanks!🍍
🍍!!! Nice tips!
Thank you!
🍍Great video as always!!!
My Pleasure
🍍thank you!!
👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼
🌲 🍏
