    No he dropped out because he was about to die. Vegeta telling him is fine because the way Vegeta said it made it look like Vegeta respects him now just like Beerus.

    I don't agree with you Geekdom, Vegeta was the perfect guy to tell Roshi to retire, you're right they have no bound and that's exactly why he was perfect to tell him. None of his student would be able to do that, it would be so disrespectful for the old man (also from a japanese cultural point, they would never do that, they respect their elder so much).

      Vegeta: "Its time for you to retire. Go eat a senzu bean before you die."

    • @dodobirdiesSeveringVoid

      You see retire as rest in a lot of Japanese animes

    • @Slimpack4321
      @Slimpack4321 7 лет назад +4

      Yeah that's how I interpreted it too. I don't think Vegeta was saying that Roshi was a washup up old man who needs to stop fighting forever. I think Master Roshi had already pushed himself beyond his limit with the multiple Mafubas and was on the verge of dying and Vegeta didn't want that to happen. Beerus hints at that too, because earlier he said for Krillin to have a senzu bean ready because master roshi was already at his limit and might die without one.

    • @Geekdom101
      @Geekdom101  7 лет назад +16

      You're 100% right. I was wrong on that one.

  • @OscarASevilla
    @OscarASevilla 7 лет назад +126

    The idea is vegeta has evolved as a character, enough that master Roshi is also vegeta's old guy to protect, emphasizing how vegeta is one of them now. Roshi had done all he could without dying, and he did a good ass job. But, no one wants Roshi to die, not even Vegeta. This connects vegeta to goku, krillen tien, and mostly, to Roshi now. Symbolically, vegeta was once evil and so that's represented in his being contained in the jar. However, the old vegeta always was a loner, where as with the help of friends, he can become his best and shine brighter, represented when he is released with the help of Roshi. Lastly, when vegeta does break out and is shining with super saiyan blue, it's symbolic of his becoming a good person and achieving new heights as a result. Also, his defence of Roshi is symbolic because the scene shows goku trying to help like always but not being able to, then vegeta ultimately coming to Roshi's aid. The scenes emphasize the fact that vegeta is a protector of friends and will be there for his friends, that the weight doesn't fall on goku alone as it once did before.

  • @eheike
    @eheike 7 лет назад +55

    Vegeta meant retire like retire from the tournament not from fighting. I think if he didn't get a senzu he would die from using the mafuba two more times

  • @dontedoestuff
    @dontedoestuff 7 лет назад +259

    I think you misinterpreted the final scene with Vegeta and Roshi. When Vegeta said "I think it's time for you to retire Old Man." I think he meant very plainly that Roshi should seriously stop fighting now, as in the Tournament itself, not all together, why would Vegeta give Roshi life advice lol? Roshi proved he can hold his own absolutely but that little speck of energy was probably literally all Roshi had left. It was time for him to "retire" from the tournament. I think you were trying to read too far into it Geekdom.

    • @mysterydude4087
      @mysterydude4087 7 лет назад +46

      dontedoestuff he totally misinterpreted that scene

    • @kalevipoeg5380
      @kalevipoeg5380 7 лет назад +28

      Yeah, that was obvious to me - he wasn't telling him to retire from fighting. People take things too literally. It was very clearl Vegeta's way of respectfully saying - while still being Vegeta - "You've done enough - you can rest now - I'll take it from here."
      Really wonderful moment. Vegeta was always my favorite and now even more so. I just hope they gave him more time to really shine and dont have him drop out until very near the end if at all.

      My Coins Your Purse I think it's more of an analytical thing. He constantly overthinks things. Some stuff he's spot on like the whole "why does Vegeta still call himself Prince," thing but he tries to do that with most aspects of the show which is t necessary.

    • @Malusifer
      @Malusifer 7 лет назад +5

      Myles Patterson Yeah that would of been a good moment. Like Vegito beating up Buu as a gum ball.

    • @ZigTheHunter
      @ZigTheHunter 7 лет назад +10

      I disagree, allowing the Mafuba to be beaten by power would devalue the technique(even more than Trunks learning it in minutes). That's not worth just to make Vegeta look coller when there are other ways to do that, and Vegeta's my favorite.

    • @MJtheP
      @MJtheP 7 лет назад +3

      ZigTheHunter That's a great point, I hadn't thought about it that way. I know I'm anxious to see the results of Vegeta's training though because like the Mafuba, I feel like blowing up the time chamber like he did has something more to it than just raw power. It's an entirely different dimension, supposed to be infinite ... Gotenks and Buu tearing a hole in space and essentially making a new door was pretty believable but overloading an infinite space to the point the whole thing is gone? Gotta be something more to it. And I think they wouldn't have shown us that twice if it didn't mean something.

    Roshi nearly died in his last battle, and he used up his last bit of energy on frost. Vegeta recognized this and suggested he drop himself out so he can eat a senzu before he dies. It wasn't that Vegeta thought he was outclassed, he was more concerned about his life.

  • @stanleysmith7551
    @stanleysmith7551 7 лет назад +23

    Geekdom I agree and disagree with you at the same time. It's true that Vegeta has no deep connection with Roshi, but he saw Roshi going waaay past his limit defeating guys much stronger than he is. If it was Goku, he would probably encourige Roshi to keep on fighting which would probably result in him die in the ring. That's what Goku would have done in Roshi's place. But Vegeta has a softer heart than Goku (just like Piccolo does) and he doesn't want Roshi to die in the ring. Also pride is very important to Vegeta. Roshi left the ring undefeated so in Vegeta's point of view he left with his pride intact. That just shows how much respect Vegeta has for Roshi.

Roshi was about to die and he was out of energy to go on so basically pass out which he ended up falling out of the ring not dropping out. Vegeta telling him to retire because he knows Roshi have nothing left to give and was going to die. Hell his last bit of energy went in to save Vegeta so it ounds more like you nitpicking but hey that's how you feel.

    I'm really happy with how the writers handled Roshi in this tournament. He put in a lot of work and they really showed that he's still a competent fighter despite his old age. Even Beerus gained newfound respect for Roshi and the way he finally went out was great. He wasn't blasted out of the stage or dragged down with someone else like some scrub. He had reached his absolute limit and dropped himself out when he couldn't do any more. Great episode overall.

      I wouldn't say "despite his old age" - I'd say "because*** of his old age" he is a competent fighter. He's been around for centuries - so it has made him very wise ;) If he were 20, I doubt he'd do nearly as well.

    I feel that the reason they have Vegeta be the one to tell Roshi to drop out is because Vegeta is concerned about him but mostly because Roshi almost caused him to be eliminated. Vegeta knows that if an opponent can deflect the mafuba, then it could possibly take out him or Goku later. So I feel it was actually perfect for him to do it since he was directly involved in fighting Frost and Goku was busy. If I were in a situation like that and you know you have a weaker team mate who has a potentially, powerful attack but the only way they can compete is to spam that attack over and over on every strong enemy and possibly die using it or get you eliminated because it backfired, then it was the right call to tell him to leave. It was like Vegeta acknowledged Roshi's fighting skills and contribution towards everything but without seeming to emotional about it.

      Nah, this is too predictable. Frieza's got a deeper game going than some petty mid-tournament betrayal. Plus the writers know that Gohan has been wasted up to this point, so they won't let him get thrown out until the later part of the tournament, and that only after a grand battle, possibly with Toppo.

    Roshi was dying. Beerus confirmed it when he told Krillin to ready a senzu bean because he might die right when he got to the stands. Vegeta was only looking after Roshi at that point, and telling him to "retire" from the stage, or, otherwise, he would die. Also, it's not like Roshi gave up. His limbs had basically just been rendered useless by Frost, so what would be the point of him staying in the ring any longer?

      @lamejojo 7 лет назад

      Eh. Toppo was trying to keep Jiren out of it because he's their ace. 1. They don't want people knowing everything he can do and 2. They want his strength conserved for the last minutes of the fight if they can help it. I'm positive his one weakness is that he doesn't have a ton of stamina. So they're waiting until the field clears out and he'll eliminate most of the field. I wouldn't doubt if it gets to the end and Jiren just knocks out all but 1 or 2 fighters from the other universes in the blink of an eye. Jiren was just telling Toppo that he was okay to take care of the situation.

    I interpreted that ending with Roshi's elimination differently.
    It seemed obvious that Roshi was close to death at the end there, and that was his last hoorah.
    Vegeta telling Roshi to "retire" wasn't referring to him as a fighter, but as a participant in tournament. Looking at the state he was in, Vegeta must have known that Roshi had nothing left to give. I think Vegeta really respects his contribution and efforts in the tournament when he told him that he can handle it from here with his fist in the air. I think that respect was echoed by Beeru's respect for the old man too.
    I actually felt awesome about the way he went out, I felt proud of what he did, and it looks like the other fighters felt that too, especially from a tough ass like Vegeta.

    Just a few corrections, frost didn't blame vegeta for being exposed in universe 6, he just wants revenge for the embarrassing defeat he suffered in the universe 6 arc, and also master roshi didn't willfully fall out of the ring because vegeta said so, he passed out, then he fell off. The next scene shows him regaining consciousness wondering where he was. Not really important details but I just felt like saying it

    Hey man, thanks for the video. This is about roshi sacrificing himself. When i watched it, beerus told krillin to get a senzu bean ready at first because he saw roshi was exhausted. Then roshi eventually threw himself off after he saved vegeta because that was the last of his ki energy and wouldnt be very useful in the future due to exhaustion. I didnt think it had to do with him being old because he is immortal when it comes to age, only was so tired because he used mafuba 3-4 times. Thanks for your time

    I agree with Vegeta. Roshi was starting to become a liability. Every u7 left in the tournament is capable of handling themselves. Roshi nearly cost us Vegeta.

      Dumbest statement ever. Yes he was getting tired but to say he was becoming a liability based on what you stated makes no sense. However he was becoming tired which would have been bad

      Anime Perspective Roshi was severely weakened and was starting to get targeted by other Universes. He would be fine if he was full health, but come on dude. He was on the verge of death after the 3rd Mafuuba. Did you see how the other members kept trying to go save Roshi Everytime he started getting in trouble? That's how Vegeta almost got eliminated dude.

      sweatpants tryhard True. However, Roshi enabled that to Happen. It was a cunning trap on Frost's part. But think about it, If Roshi wasn't completely worn out, he could have sealed Frost in the beginning

    • @TheVengefulVadam
      @TheVengefulVadam 7 лет назад

      Anime Perspective yeah he was a liability. Goku tried rushing towards Roshi for a second time in this episode when he noticed Roshi was being cornered by Frost. Had Roshi continued to participate, who knows how many times Goku and the others have to keep an eye on him to prevent him from dying.

  • @armagetz8375

    @geekdom101 to me it looked like Roshi passed out falling out of the ring. When Krillin and Tien tell him that hes back in the spectator seats seemed to me to imply that he had passed out and regained conciousness. Just my observation.

    Maybe jiren isn't fighting this tournament not because he's saving stamina, but because he's so strong universe 11 doesn't want him to be disqualified for killing anyone. So far he's only attacked opponents that were pretty strong (kale on rampage and maji kaio who is very durable because he's liquid metal he wouldn't die)

    • @OMGwtfhappened
      @OMGwtfhappened 7 лет назад

      Young yeah but whis and beerus keep talking about how goku is using specific forms in order to save stamina to fight in the long run (his red god form which is faster than super saiyan and uses less stamina than blue)

    Hey geekdom what I got from vegeta and roshi was that roshi was close to dying and vegeta knew it so he told him to retire so he could get a senzu bean since they are illegal to use in the tourney. I loved it vegeta tried to act as if he didn't care about roshi but we all know vegeta has changed drastically from the old days! He cares just tries to still act like he doesn't! I enjoyed seeing vegeta defend the old man.

    The interaction between master roshi and vegeta is what really made this episode for me. Master roshi risked his own life to save vegeta from being eliminated and vegeta telling master roshi to retire before he dies on the stage, told the story that these two guys have respect for one another. Even though vegeta said he wasn't there to help roshi from frost but to fight frost. By the end of the episode, vegeta wanted roshi to go sit in the the bleachers and eat a senzu bean to recuperate before he dies.
    On the other hand, in episode 105, master roshi dies on stage after fighting a U4 fighter. Fortunately goku was able to revive master roshi, but didn't request him to step down before he dies again. In episode 107, goku once again finds himself trying to help master roshi, but was occupied fighting ribrianne.
    Why did goku leave master roshi alone again? Giving fighters such as frost the advantage to take out master roshi or using him as bait to trap and eliminate other Z fighters. Vegeta knows master roshi is going to be an liability as the tournament progresses. He was thinking not only the well being of master roshi, but eliminating any such distractions or traps that could be bad for U7 fighters.
    This episode is a good example of good storytelling and animation.
