maestro, did you shape the heart wing? looks so gorgeous, feels like there is an arrow pointing directly down to the centre of the bridge and the gentle arc at the tip of the arrow looks so pretty ! the pointed yet slightly curved upwards shape of the kidney wings is a thing of beauty on its own !! lot of people call themselves maestro, but a selected few like yourself are truly worthy of the title !
Thanks! You can see the heart cutting here: ruclips.net/video/8htxbRpSuDY/видео.html and here I shape the little "arrow": ruclips.net/video/bGYqfJY1Hb0/видео.html Although the bridge is primarily a functional part, it is nice to treat it as a small piece of art by trying to express your own style in its lovely details. 🙂
Again, thank you for disclosing all your secrets. I feel inspired and motivated to follow your methods. Does the E-string finally rest on a thin layer of parchment and not directly on the maple wood? The string suppliers often add a 5 mm long thin plastic tube to the E-string package meant as a buffer between string metal and bridge. What is your opinion? Use it or leave it away?
What could I say about the small plastic tubes that come with the E string? Throw them in the trash😄, no serious professional would recommend them. They can be an emergency temporary solution if the parchment is not present or the string is already sinking into the bridge, or may be used on very cheap violins with a very harsh E string because the plastic dampens the high frequencies. But please don't use them on serious violins, the parchment does a far superior job acoustically. If you don't have the parchment, you can also just put cyanoacrylate glue to harden the bridge or to fill the gap under the E string, although without the parchment it might sound a bit harsh due to the very hard consistency of the cyanoacrylate which could enhance high frequencies.
Very nice bridge and invaluable guidance, thanks so much.
Como siempre, perfección absoluta. Enhorabuena por tu gran trabajo David.
