Hey thanks this was very helpful--found a replacement used motor and managed to get my old faithful saw back up and running!

Phil, I don’t know if you remember working on this tablesaw or not. I have that saw and the just quit working yesterday! Everything in your video is the same as mine, especially the direct drive brushless motor. BUT, my switch box does not include the capacitor. Mine does have the coiled thing that you talked about being needed in a certain position. But if I can’t see the capacitor, what would you suggest I do? Thanks for any help you can provide and thanks for having made this video!

I'm a little confused. What relay won't work upside down?

Thanks for your video. I have the same 30 year old $299 Craftsman saw which has served me well. In the middle of cut it died. Which was odd, no struggle, just stopped. The reset button would not reset and the breaker nor GFI were blown. I also noticed the switch seemed to have to much play. After looking at new saws, I decided to try and figure out the problem. It was not the motor since the arbor moved freely. I suspected both the reset button and the switch. Of course these parts are not made anymore. We have ordered a powertec kill switch rather than buy a used switch on ebay. To make sure the motor worked my husband direct wired the relay which the reset button was wired to, into the switch button wire which goes to capacitor. We lugged it in and the motor ran perfectly.

Does anyone know where I can find a diagram which shows the electrical connections to the relay?

The start winding on my motor shows an open circuit. I can start the saw by giving the blade a spin and then turning the saw on. I assume I need a new motor. Any ideas on where I could buy a used motor? A new motor is very expensive and I am not prepared to invest the money for a new motor. I can purchase a used table saw for considerably less than the price of a new motor. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

How did you test the motor? Just direct wire it and plug it in?

Could you please explain what wires connect to which contacts on the relay? There are numbers on the relay for us to refer to. Thanks

So the problem was the starter cap.

Great video. In what orientation does the relay coil go back in? Where did you get the parts? Thanks.
