    What do you all think of my hot take? lol

    • @ramzidote1374

      My view is very similar to yours. The psychology bachelor’s degree is best suited for students considering graduate education in a similar field (i.e. counseling, social work, clinical work, research). The degree on its own is less useful for getting a job.
      Personally, I dual majored in English and Psychology. I loved both and had a hard time choosing and wasn’t sure what I wanted to do long term, so I just did both lol. My thought process, though, was that the English degree was my “job” degree and my psychology degree was my “grad school” degree so that I would be prepared for either. If I only took one major, I would have done English and probably minored in psychology. My sense is that many people would be better served by a psychology MINOR, rather than a major.
      With all that said, I have a great job at a community college now and a couple of my coworkers are psych majors, so if any psych majors are reading this, don’t panic, you will be fine 🙂 I will be starting my PsyD this fall! 😄😄

      That's really smart, I love that you had a double major and were setting yourself up for either a a "job" or "grad school!" I think the psychology minor can work in many ways because then you can at least have the minimum number of courses taken and apply to grad school but can major in something like business and work after college for a few years before deciding on grad school. I wish this was advice given to me in undergrad, thank you for sharing and congrats on starting your PsyD in the fall!

    When you major in psychology cause you genuinely like it and then genuinely want to pursue a clinical psych PhD. 😅😂

    I think this is great advice! Many people graduate with a psychology bachelors degree and don’t know what career options they have. I wish more people knew to take this as a minor and major in something that has a more direct career path

    If ur not a people person like me, avoid psychology, pursue something else. As a 18 year old I had no idea what I wanted to do . I went into cognitive sciences for 2 years, grades wasn’t good enough to stay in it so I got into psychology . All though the courses weren’t hard and kinda entertaining( aside from my 4th year project class super boring) I got out qualified for jobs I wanted nothing to do with. I’m now pursuing drawing/ architecture , animation and other visual arts fields. Something more to my passion .

    As being a psychology major as an undergraduate course
    Can I read hard books of
    Neuroscience and Neuropsychology... ???
    Or is it going to be hard for me to read ??

      I think you might be able to get basic concepts but its important to have real-life clinical experience to make more sense of the principles and practices. Hope that helps!

    I’m so glad I found your account! I am graduating high school a year early to start my process in becoming a therapist and or getting my PsyD or PhD in psychology. Currently in my senior of high school I am taking into to psychology, english 101 & 103 and will be able to start different classes that will hopefully lead me in the right direction. Is there anything specific you recommend while going into this field? I have struggled with different mental disorders and traumatic experiences that have truly driven me to want to help others the way I wasn’t helped. I already got accepted into a psychology program at my local community college that will be able to transfer me to a 4 year school right after.. I’m just unsure which path or what I should major in after my psychology degree. Thank you for your videos they have been really helpful while deciding which path i’m going to choose. ❤️

    The truth about getting a degree in Psyc is, that unless you have at least a Masters, there is no point. Even an Honours is useless in terms of job prospects.

    • @philsguidetopsyd
      @philsguidetopsyd  2 месяца назад

      Yeah I certainly think its important to have a plan in how students would like to use the degree before beginning or in the early years of college to maximize its use! Thanks for sharing.

    can we do the opposite too? major in psychology and do a masters in education or language? I love foreign languages and I speak several. I also love psychology. I am learning French but realized I am wasting time learning and paying courses that would never give me a degree. so I was between a Bachelors in French because I need to learn due to moving abroad, but my union pays half the credit for psychology and several other majors but doesn't pay to a French major. I have a job I already love but would love to get a different degree. I wanted to find a way of studying psychology and then getting a French degree as well. so I could teach French or work at a school in France as a second job. a bit confusing but I want to spend time and money doing something that will give me a diploma, not just the skills.

    Hello…How are you? I’m new to schooling I constantly keep finding myself helping other get on the right track a lot people vent to me I’m always good at giving advice…I’m more of a self reflection type person I get others to lookin the mirror try to figure how they come up with a situation to better themselves because at the end of the day nobody else matter but you… I’m looking into getting my Psychology degree to become therapist….I’ma become a Humanistic therapist (Gestalt therapy) but also love cognitive what will be best for me? So what approach should I take when it come get my Psychology degree? Can I just get a bachelors?

    • @philsguidetopsyd
      @philsguidetopsyd  Год назад +1

      Those all sound like amazing aspirations! In grad school they teach you a lot of the ways to do therapy so you can find the one that resonates the most with you. A bachelor's degree is typically necessary before applying to a masters or a doctorate. Many schools in the U.S. don't have a preference on the major as long as it fulfills the pre-requisite courses for the program, so for example they might require psych 101 or abnormal psychology before applying. Hope that helps best of luck!
