In Indian gold shops they don't do this cos they have a 2 door system where you absolutely cannot just grab and run for the door. The door only opens if the staff press a button. Both doors require this. There's a middle section between the 2 doors and you can't pass the second door to actually exit the shop until the first door is closed and the button has been pressed. This has actually saved gold shops from being robbed as the doors can't be broken down easily and robbers have been left stuck in the middle between the 2 doors.

She was not trained. This is just learned from experience. Anyone trained in Asset Protection knows to never take your eyes off of the customer or the merchandise. She should have moved the box over in front of her when she went to go grab the next item

Most jewelry shops will only allow one piece of jewelry on the counter at a time. If you wish to see another piece they usually put the one that’s out away and take out the other item you wish to see.
I was looking at high end watches awhile back (Rolex and Omega) and they laid out several that I wanted to see with no problem. There were however armed security guards at the door, so there was that.

Unfortunately not a lot of employers train their employees well, sometimes we need to figure things out ourselves. It's even worse when you have a boss that's like "figure it out yourself" and scold you publicly if your action wasn't up to their standard. Shaming culture is especially common and deeply rooted here in Asia, so there's that too

Most jewelry shops will only allow one piece of jewelry on the counter at a time. If you wish to see another piece they usually put the one that’s out away and take out the other item you wish to see.

If the video is genuine, a much more logical explanation IS the intent of a sleight of hand. A few days before, they send an accomplice to identify an item they target and manage to have a fake one be made, to be substituted with the original. If you look closely at the video, it seems the she-thief holds something in her hand before she retracts.

It's even worse when you have a boss that's like "figure it out yourself" and scold you publicly if your action wasn't up to their standard. Shaming culture is especially common and deeply rooted here in Asia, so there's that too
