Even if your not in the streets you got friends who are and it's all around you, it's easy to get caught up in the streets and it's hard to get out of it. I was lucky my Mom moved us to a black suburban area when I was 15, and I had started to be caught up on some dumb shit when I was back in the hood. I was fighting, dudes my age and grown men, hanging out in the projects, in young girls houses, the type of girls whose parents ain't never at home. Looking back I could've easily been shot, just from a simple fight, or from fucking with someone's girl that they want to claim, or ended up with a baby at a young age or had I still been having with who I was hanging out with I probably would've been hustling. But not to long after we moved to the suburbs my mindset changed. I wasn't trying to prove I was tough or hard or on no street shit, I realized black people out in that area were about making money legitimately and enjoying a peaceful drama free life. An that's what I became about, I just can't understand someone having six figures in their pocket and access to being out of the hood and being able to leave all the dumb ass street shit behind them. But still dabbling in the street shit like it's cool. I understand that mindset when your in the hood with nothing and your young and ain't nobody telling you about the opportunities and choices you can make to create a better life for yourself. Young black men rhyming about their struggles is an exceptional talent, and an inspirational thing to watch. But when you only perpetuate that same struggle, especially when you’re getting paid to perpetuate that struggle, through spectators interest, it becomes a perversion of the art. Poison for both the spectators, and performers. Only death becomes of it. We are lynching ourselves.
I've been a fan of rap music since the early 80's, grew up soaking up Rakim, Nas, WuTang, Redman, Biggie, DMX, Tupac and all the rest of the all-time greats...Even though they all could get dirty with the street life and speak on it, there was an undeniable effort to uplift and switch the paradigm of street life. I was a white boy who grew up in juvie and on the streets due to being homeless and rap music back then was actually inspirational and motivational for me. No matter what, I can't see ANY inspiration in this generations rap music. It's either about killing or taking drugs and the lyrical content has dropped off exponentially. There are a few bright spots in the rap music we hear today. Kendrick, J-Cole, Coast Contra etc... but damn man, I miss what I grew up with. I heard an interview the other day and can't remember who said it, but they asked "you know who isn't dying in all this music?" and his answer was really eye opening. He said "The record company executives aren't dying" ....the industry executives are the REAL demons in this day and age. They push this on the streets and glorify the killing of young black men...Now, as a white man who grew up on the streets, I get that the streets are a very different lifestyle with its own laws and code, but damn...this industry environment has created a genocide of young black men...these young cats are pushed to create a hostile environment. You KNOW these kids are intelligent, yet their intelligence isn't being cultivated..it's being extorted for the financial gains of the industry executives...
Man I’m glad someone else said it. He’s super talented but he starts beef for no reason. His brother, blood brother, died and he is using his death to troll those he has beef with. I hate to lose another young rapper on the come up
These artists are just puppets for the record labels to push their agenda. They know 11 year old kids love music about violence. They could fix all of this if they wanted to but there is way too much money involved for that too happen.
@@georgelincolnrockwell4659 ultimately we pay for the music and shows. If it sells, they sell it. But if no one would buy, labels and artist would drop quick. Its just the mindset of people, music is a powerful tool
Should have mentioned also that Key Glock, Young Dolphs cousin went to the same school as him. Also Big Scarr and Big 30 are Grape Street as is NLE Choppa. Big 30 is also the cousin of Lil Migo. Crazy how all the Memphis popping rappers anyway are all kind of tied together.
On another topic, I can’t get into Lil Migo. I fucking LOVE Memphis rap. Been a fan since mid 90s three six mafia. They’re the best in trap music hands down. But I find the kid so boring.
true, but don't forget that trap doesn't tell you in the video but the main reason he even admired the streets is because of keef and the Chicago movement
Crazy thing is I went to school with many of them on both sides. I graduated high school with Choppa Wop. I graduated middle school with Jasmine. I remember that ebg light skin guy from tenth grade and many others. Not saying I was close to any of them, it’s just crazy that things have turned out like this.
@@kd3440 I don’t know how they “truly” were, because most of them I only saw during school in maybe one or two periods. Choppa Wop, who everyone called Antwop at the time, I shared Chemistry and Algebra 2 with and was always loud and joking with our teacher even when he first transferred there. In 8th grade Jasmine and I weren’t in the same class but she was definitely at my school, bc she and her brother rode the same bus as I did to school. We shared the same period in U.S History in the 11th grade, but from what I saw she was just like most other girls there. Like I said, I was never friends or close to any of them. He said it in the video. Memphis is small, everyone knows each other. We’re isolated from the rest of the country around us. There is not enough room for everyone wanting to make ends.
Why do we as a people glamorize ignorance and self deprivation? We need to have this energy against the real enemy, but first we must learn who that is, then learn who we are (aka knowledge of self)! I hate to see my young brothers killin each other, if we only knew our real capabilities✌🏾

@Dead soul I’m speaking about us directly The outsiders looking in are the ones we almost seem to be promoting or auditioning to! Almost resembling animals at a zoo, the outsiders watch from a safe place, but change begins with us as a people! Push my brothers to DO BETTER FOR SELF! ☝🏾❤️
I always think if all black gangs came under one umbrella and applied pressure to the real enemy while supporting each other financially we would be unstoppable
Remember when all the young guys use to get signed and the first thing they would do is take the whole gang out the hood and put them in a better area to be a family man. What happened to that???
Cuz they found out you can make money from music and being a gangster at the same time and they go hand in hand. The more known your gang the more known your music and vice versa
I love how everyone (including me) is judging from the comfort of their suburban homes. All I know is, if y’all were thrown into a war zone where u have to duck gunfire while sleeping, you will turn into a cold blooded killer too. We will never understand.
Sad. The industry always profiting from us killing each other. But it’s up to society to change the narrative. These rappers are speaking to the conditions in their environment and it’s the only way out for them. Unfortunately, as long as it’s profitable, it’ll continue.
Defend myself, yes. Cold-blooded killer, nah. Not everyone is going to be a product of their environment. I also believe that having more positive role models would help to show them that they do have other options.
Hurt my soul to see these young brotha's, I realized that it's not a factor whether they're real gangstaz or not, it's that the game has changed by leaps in bounds from the days before social media, who knows what my generation would've done or been like had the ability to go live at the push of a button from the palm of your hand been available back then, we can only speculate, but in the end they've become like wild wolf pups without that OG guidance but still have all the same issues of poverty, youthful anger, rage, hunger, hate, drugs, police brutality to still go along with it. The system really did a # on us, premeditated prior to the civil rights movement. We're baring witness to the long term calculated plot finally bearing fruit.
I was with you until I got to the "wolf pups". I never really thought about the role that social media plays in gang violence. Nor had ever compared this generation to mine. So, thank you. I have lots to ponder.
@@MM-fn4dx Do you understand the analogy as far as not having that Alpha hierarchy in place to guide the youth? I used Wolves as the example as a result of their efficient social structure amongst the pack.
It's because everywhere people are so pressured by being called a "bitch", every man's psyche is obsessed with proving he's not a "bitch" and will act out in really fringe and aggressive ways to scare others into thinking he's not a "bitch"
What is fucked up is if they united it would become a way better place and it could be possible, but you're right so much negativity creating a cycle that keeps uping the ante. Seems like it's just self destruction all to feel pride and a sense of belonging. It's kind of sad because the system does keep them down. I can only imagine what their kids, and their kids children will be like.
What bro he has multiple hits maybe not on charts but in streets he has everything it takes for longevity only thing that can stop him is him getting killed or locked up
