There are some documents I missed in the lab at the end. I'm posting the transcripts from those documents here for those who wanna read em. They explain how the previous bosses powers work and I thought that was pretty cool and feel bad for missing them for you guys in the video. Subject Name: Alcina Dimitrescu Cadou Affinity: Most favorable Brain Functions: Normal Regeneration rate is incredibly fast. The subject can heal any external wound within seconds, and grow her nails into claws in mere moments. Rapid regeneration also means an increased body size. Note: Due to a hereditary blood disease the subject must ingest human flesh and blood on a regular basis to maintain regeneration properties. I suspect that if the subject's regeneration is not properly balanced then she may mutate uncontrollably. An unfit vessel for Eva. Subject Name: Donna Beneviento Cadou Affinity: Favorable Brain Function: Normal, although severe mental illness. Physically she is no different from a regular human, however, she can secrete a signal producing substance which controls plants infected by the mutamycete. When humans absorb the pollen from a particular flower she can cause them to have hallucinations. However, she is mentally underdeveloped and has divided her Cadou among her dolls in order to control them from a distance. An unfit vessel for Eva. Subject Name: Salvatore Moreau Cadou Affinity: Low Brain Function: Surprisingly low. The Cadou has caused drastic changes to internal organs, transforming them into organs similar to fish-like gills and a swim bladder. Another subject with irregular cell division causing him to transform into a giant fish. The subject is unable to control this transfomration. Too many defects. An unfit vessel for Eva. Subject Name: Karl Heisenberg Cadou Affinity: Incredibly favourable Brain Function: Normal Has electric organs similar to the electric ray, Narke japonica. These electric organs are connected to the subject's nervous system. Can therefore pass and control electricity throughout the entire body, allowing control of magnetic fields which is used to move metal. Splendid specimen, but still an unfit vessel for Eva.
Isn't it more appropriate to say he lost his memory of his death, died again, remember that he died once, gets revived and then finally, permanently died. ..... What. The. Fuck.
Imma be guessing he'll be the Metamycete or whatever as Miranda did say she'll let him get consumed by the monster thing so now I think he'll control the small portion of it
I mean....technically speaching, radars dont detect what on ground so, as long as he doesnt get on the back of the flying monkeys in the game he will stay under the radar...didnt know that Miranda had a radar tho, maybe it was Heisenberg; he did have a technically oriented mind.
I love that Duke wasn’t an antagonist or some secret evil dude. He was just there with Ethan until the very end, selling him some amazing food and being a bro. We all need a Duke.
It is heavily implied that he would've been another of Miranda's "children". The story told in the credits might be his. He had an insignia and everything (an owl). But he made a different choice, just like Ethan.
Well it's only throughout the game, isn't it? Which, according to the ending of the game where the report was submitted, lasted only approximately two days. And since Mia was captured and experienented on instead of killed, that shows that Miranda had time to spare, meaning that it could've only been recent. So most likely Ethan last saw Mia at least a few days ago, less than a week
He didnt turn into a mold when jack killed ethan 13years ago,wasn't it weird the baker family said welcome to the family while jack was referring to ethan that has turned into a mold
I don’t think Ethan was ever meant to be a classical hero like Leon or Chris, I think he was created to be a tragic hero. He’s not an agent or a soldier, he’s a husband and father who gets torn apart repeatedly both mentally and physically just trying to protect his family. And I actually really like that choice on the developers part, to give us a different type of protagonist. And I’m okay having never seen his face, I still felt incredibly connected to him by the end of everything.
I can agree with your opinion, i felt the same about his character throughout the game. Even at the very introduction to his character, he was just portrayed as a husband who went on to save his wife back in Louisiana unlike Mia(his wife) who used to work with the Connections.
i think when writing that, res went way in over their depth. their story writing and design has always been...yeah...but usually it works really well for what they do, but for writing something with this deep emotional content and the mechanism and workings of the human mind under that kind of duress, its just not their craft
At 13:07 when Ethan realize that he’s about to drop into water, he quickly rearranges his pose to straighten his legs and cross his arms over his chest, which is the correct and safest way of falling into water from a great height, without hurting yourself. Ethan’s military training actually kicked in!
@@meldrickedwards1892 tbf, he prob got like only 40% of the training that Chris himself and Leon got. They prob just gave him enough training to defend himself and his family if it ever came to it

me, seeing Rose wearing Mia's ring, Ethan's jacket, and also inherited Ethan's blonde hair and loving, protective and fiery personality; *sobbing over a horror game*
Me: Crying over Ethan, Crying during the ending scene. Loving these characters Sean: Idk I just hate Ethan. I don’t think he’s a good character. Just give me Chris, I don’t need anyone else till he’s dead. Everyone’s entitled to their own opinions I’m not angry lol but I just kinda found it funny that I was crying while he said that because of the exact opposite reason.
Some foreshadowing I've noticed: • right at the beginning, Mia is cooking and says "it's a local recipe." Ethan replies "you've gone full native," because it's actually Miranda, a local. • Lady Dimitrescu says that Ethan's blood tasted stale (because he's been dead for three years) • Obviously being able to reattach his hand and take so much damage • The old woman speaking in riddles and telling him "How can a man be almost dead?"
I love and appreciate Duke being in the game like literally Ethan would have been facing it all on his own but he had the Duke to help him out through the game,in a village of nightmares and horrors,a friendly face really makes the battle less terrible. Idk what I'm saying but Duke's a cool dude!
Exactly. Duke is an example for this planet's inhabitants. Every creature has choice. And some choice is true. While others are fake, and pathetic. I can't imagine this game without Duke. He made the game so much more enjoyable, and he also decreased the sense of being alone in the desolate environment.
Well he did say he didn't want Ethan to know because he was concerned he'd get involved and get himself killed, (which in the end, he did) but yeah. Ethan is more than capable of handling himself, especially since he got actual military training since the last game.

@@Goodoldrazz actually, if you go back and watch the scene where Dimitrescu “test tastes” Ethan’s blood, she says, “it’s going a bit stale” which was another hint to say that Ethan is a mold

I love Ethan, Resident evil did a good job of showing a civilian-like character reacting to everything Chris or Leon has already been through. They never wanted Ethan to have this HUGE high point of looking cool, cause that just isnt him. He's a father thrown into a world he never belonged in.
I'm so glad I'm seeing so many comments like this. I'm glad that Ethan is getting the love he deserves for simply caring enough to go through hell TWICE to protect the people who are his responsibility. He's got hell and high water both at his back and he doesn't trip ONCE.
I like Ethan as a character too but you're wrong for saying they don't want him to look cool or have high point of view because they do try it by giving him very cheesy, corny dialogues with lots of swearing, I'm not saying there's anything wrong it. Just stating. The only problem in Village of Ethan for me is that this games story is really weak. The game's other characters are really strong and well written, they completely overshadow Ethan. He just doesn't have a strong story to keep your engaged or connected with him or his story. This game is wonderful and I absolutely love it but just because of its wonderful graphics, villains and areas.
@@Ibrahim-ec7mm I disagree, I was fully invested in Ethan's journey to help Rose. The only other character that had me interested was Lady D and thats for totally different reasons lol. Beneviento had basically nothing to go on, Moreau did have some character but nothing too crazy. Heisenburg is the only one who I'd argue has the most character besides Miranda. And those corny lines and swearing is whatever lol, I don't think me or you would go out of our way to say some heroic statement after defeating some gross mutated beast, that or I'd just stay silent.

I cried at Ethan’s death. As someone who doesn’t have a strong relationship with my dad, seeing Ethan traverse this world to save his with no real way of even knowing it would work and then sacrificing himself for her really got me. I liked him in 7 but loved him in 8. I hope they find a way to bring him back for a cameo or something in the next game.
SAME! the fact he was a regular guy who had to rise to the occasions was what I liked about him, and they amped up the dramatic tragedy so well there were legit tears in my eyes when he started falling apart...
You're right, there's something about the story of a dad who'd do anything to help his daughter that gives me feels. My dad and I don't have a good relationship but stuff like this reminds me that not all dads are like mine
He's not dead. If he's mold, he'll regenerate and come back. I bet he's that mysterious figure who appears in that post credit scene. Although we'll probably play as a grown-up Rose during the majority of the next game.
Same, seeing him sacrifice himself after going trough all that just got to me. He did absolutely everything to safe her and can't get to see her grow up. :,(

When Chris fired the tank from the side, it didn’t move. When ethan fired the tank it rolled across the room backwards. This means that even though Capcom tried to tone down Chris’s badassery, he literally shouldered an entire tanks recoil. What a unit.
Fun fact : In the development of this game , The Duke was going to be the fifth lord. As you can see in his carriage he has an owl rug , Duke was going to be a lord that resembled an owl like the other lords represent other things.
i would like to expand on that with this thought: perhaps he WAS part of Mother Miranda's 'family' structure, but essentially chose to go his own way rather than follow her and the others' toxic approach to... whatever the hell they were doing to the village. it would explain why he even showed up in the DLC, given the megamycene's subconsciousness, along with his hostility towards Rose. say what you will about capitalism, even hypercapitalism, but the Duke is something special that a LOT of capitalists forget: to accumulate wealth is to expand on one's services to one's customer base for the good of those in need.
“I guess I owe you an explanation.” No shit dude, he watched you murder his wife, whether or not she was real is a whole different story. You kidnapped his daughter and knocked him out then proceeded to be all cryptic.
I try to keep it as vague as possible, but mild spoilers might be in this post. Yeah, I think Chris`s behaviour is mostly for the plot to happen imo. Doesn`t mean it is good writing - actually I think it`s one of the points I don`t like to much about this game. They setup a "plot twist" or a "is he really the good guy" situation, but after resolving everything I just went "wait, that`s very much out of character" I mean, that he doesn`t tell him first, that would be understandable to get the jump on "Mia". But after that? Could explain it to Ethan on the way basically. I think Ethans condition also while interesting and it makes sense for alot of things got me to think about some things. Like: How can he bleed? How can he for example lose fingers, and they don`t grow back over 8 - considering how fast others regenerated? How was Rose received? I mean, it`s said that she was born in a hospital. But how is that possible? I don`t dislike the Ethan arc, and it makes WAY more sense this way but at the same time some questions really aren`t answered in my honest opinion.
Wait, Ethan is made of mold. The herb that was healing him was rosemary, which flourishes and grows mold. So that’s why he was able to just slop some “juice” on there and be “molded” back together. Because rosemary grows mold, so it basically just put him back together. Also cute to think Rosemary is his daughters name... like he kept “growing and coming back alive” because he was saving his daughter, Rose. She kept him flourishing, and going. Sweet ❤️.
I was trying so hard not to cry at the end because someone is doing my bathroom and would probably be like why are you crying or confused why I am crying and the person that is doing the bathroom is my moms friend so I had to try so hard not to cry
Spoiler: Interesting to note that Rose’s full name is Rosemary. She isn’t a delicate flower, she is, in fact, named for an herb. Herbs, which have been used to beat back the mold for two whole games now.
for those who dont know, the person walking at the end cutscene by the car is a character model of ethan, either rose can see like hallucinations of him, or hes like connected to her mind through the mold n shit. dont know for sure, but it is definitely him
too bad we never get to see his face, but i think that's an interesting approach for the developers of the R.E. series to take. kind of like instead of a silent protagonist, we have a faceless protagonist.
Idk why, but for some reason, the line kinda felt off or corny for me. It got me laughing my ass a bit, but it still made me depressed that he dies in the end though. His last words were just something an american or literally everybody wouldn't realistically say before he dies. I didn't mean to offend anyone btw. I only thought that he could've just said "Goodbye Rose" instead of calling her Rosemary xD. Maybe, I just got used to every hollywood protagonists uttering, "I'm sorry" as their last words to their love ones when it comes to situations like this.
I love how in the storybook, the first 3 lords are happy to "share" and give gifts and be "kind" to the girl, but the last one (heisenberg) is unwilling to. He refused to accept his life and accept what Miranda had planned with Rose
@@mokie7421 I mean it make sense, with Miranda and her obsession with bringing her daughter back. It starts off with them all loving and appreciating Miranda and all that she did for them, but soon turned into hatred when they were being ignored or being under appreciated for all that they did for her. Hence why they started disobeying her and going Rouge. Heisenbergg was never fooled though and hated Miranda from the start. Edit:( I also want to add that it goes in order from the game sequence and how each and every one of them were confronted. The foreshadowing was amazing.)

I just realised, the story mia (miranda)told rose, was basically how the game played out but backwards with the respective creatures representing the lords and their insignias. Lady Dimitrescu: the bat was willing to give the blood to the girl, but lady Dimitrescu did not willing give ethan his daughters head. Beneviento: the silk master willing gave the girl a dress. Beneviento didn't give Ethan the daughters legs back willingly. Moreu (i forgot how to spell it): the fish creature, willing gave the girl the scales, Moreu did not willingly give ethan the arms back. Heisenberg: The Horse, did not willingly give the girl the Gear on his head, Heisenberg did willingly give Ethans daughters torso back. The story showed that the horse was the outlier meaning Heisenberg was always the outlier among the Lords.
Dang- I'm 7/8 months late but dang this is impressive observation. I always thought that throughout the playthrough mia(miranda's) story might related to the lords but I didn't realize it till I read this.
I love how Ethan is such a linear character because in this game he is essentially a living ghost that wont fully die until he completes his purpose which was to save rose
Based on the line that appeared on the screen after the grave visit saying "The father's story is over" I feel like it's hinting that the next game is gonna be Based on rose.

Slow start? Literally one of the first things that happen is that you get overwhelmed by enemies in the village, then a little bit later, you get to a house where EVERYBODY dies, then you get kidnapped by Heisenberg lol
I really enjoy how the story hasn't just a basic RE classic ending. Also love that the "Village of Shadow" is a foreshadowing of all the bosses: - Bat / Dimitrescu clan - Spider's threads / Donna Beneviento (doll) - Fish monster / Moreau - Mechanical Horse / Heisenberg
I really can’t believe that *no one* I’ve seen play the game has so far made that connection. Or like, if they have I’m surprised no one has out loud observed it! When I realized it, I thought it was super cool and kept waiting for either Sean or Evelyn to say something. I know it’s not a big deal, I’m just mildly annoyed, lol.

I actually really don't think Duke died. I feel like he has a teleporting ability with his carriage and his sole purpose is to be a merchant for those in need.
Just realised that at the end of the battle, Ethan still goes with Chris even though he’s dying, fighting to stay alive for Rose. But when Chris tells Ethan about Mia being alive, that is when Ethan decides that he can rest and die in peace - giving Chris the baby and sacrificing his life.
Because he found out that she was alive. He's done what he needed to do, he saved Mia from the Bakers and got infected in the process. Now he saved his daughter from the village and gave his life do so. He chose to stay behind because he was dying anyway, and died in peace knowing that his family was safe. RIP Ethan Winters.
The idea of calling Chris Redfield "fleshed out" as a character in comparison to Ethan is kind of hilarious, considering Chris' character begins and ends at "follow the mission" in EVERY game he's in.
TBH, Chris is a grouchbag who was already too old for this shjte, rofl XD at least Ethan had something that a handful of us lacked growing up: a loving father who would sacrifice everything to save his daughter. instead, we get grouchbag Chris.
Chris did get some good story and character development in resi 6 though. He had a whole arc about how he let his crew die on a mission and he has to overcome the fact that his crew was there ready to die if it meant even just trying to accomplish the mission. And that he as a leader must accept the fate and honor their work. It’s actually told pretty well. Too bad it’s resi 6 💀
Chris actually did get developed this game, even if a little bit. Ethan is the most boring kind of stereotypical character, the parent going after their lost child. Aka the main character from Fallout 4, aka the worst main line Fallout game. It's lazy. Any human qualifies for that character role by sheer instinct, there is no separate motivation and determination beyond "must secure kin for furthering of species". Tldr: Ethan is vanilla, motivated by basic instincts. Chris is developed, pushing on with a project he believes in even though it's draining him, especially knowing there are Umbrella-like forces corrupting BSAA.
GUYS I JUST REALIZED SOMETHING: So earlier in the game when you’re in Castle Dimitrescu, you go through the part where Alcina and her daughters have you bounded and cut you up to taste your blood. Alcina made a comment stating “he taste stale” or something along the lines. Lady Dimitrescu could taste the fact that Ethan is dying/dead.
I love how Chris goes on to say it's too dangerous for Ethan to kill Miranda... and Chris has done nothing but watch Ethan absolutely *obliterate* Miranda's kids. Edit: stop replying to that comment. REPORT. IT. The more you reply to it the more I have to read that username.
They give you a hint about Ethan not being a "real person" at the start of the game. The girl and the dad you meet at the beginning, the dad was bitten by a lykan and eventually turns into one. Ethan however, got bit a chunk out of his hand and still didn't turn into one. I think that was the first hint that Ethan was different than the others.
For real I was sitting here like, "........How is no one talking about how Ethan's had a chomp taken out of his hand and he's not turning into a lykan??"
To be fair it's not even confirm that that's why considering the only thing we know that turns people into lycans of the experiments that they do to them with the coudou
I disagree with Jack. I like Ethan's character because he's just a regular guy in unfortunate circumstances. He's driven by fatherly love and does all sorts of awesome things most would not dare to do. He has my respect.
That second to last sentence in your comment, is a bit idiotic imo. Mostly because the stuff that's happening, is fictional. So of course most wouldn't be able to do this stuff.
I actually really liked Ethan as a protagonist because he was a normal guy that had realistic and relatable motivations. He was a dedicated father / husband who went through hell to protect his family, in both 7 & 8. He's always been so understandable and to me, he feels the most human out of all the RE protagonists. I mean, his breathing at 1:10:40 was so full of fear and panic because he's not this powerful badass like Chris, he's a regular dude that's willing to die to save his daughter. He goes out in a way very fitting for his character.

Exactly not every resident evil character has to be a badass super soldier it was refreshing to see a normal person going from length and breadth to save his daughter, yes i agree we didn't really got to deeply explore the character himself but that's because he had no one there to talk to or interact with, I also didn't like when he called Ethan a bad dad like bro he's doing all that for his daughter and you are calling him a bad dad, it's his personal opinion tho
@Flex I don't think so because it seems like she cared about Ethan more and wasn't just avoiding the conversation but instead was trying to talk to him but he got the phone call and that really seemed to upset her As with Miranda she would have been completely avoiding the conversation because it could have blown her cover
Well when I think about it, it's better to give Ethan a heroic and tragic ending Imagine if Rose was never kidnapped and one day, they're all having a comfortable family meal and all of a sudden he collapse to dust on the dining table
I think he only dusted because of his fight with Miranda, he was gonna be okay probably for another couple decades but the damage he took and killing the megamycete is what did him in
I don't understand how people could dislike Ethan. His one liners and awkward personality is so charming and his average and normal background makes him so relatable. Cried like a baby when I finished the game 🥺😭
i honestly feel bad for heisenberg. he just wanted to stand up for himself finally and kill miranda. he didn’t wanna kill ethan and instead wanted his help, but since ethan refused- that’s when heisenberg had to step back and hurt ethan bc he knew he wouldn’t be able to defeat miranda with ethan in the way
Yeah but Heisenberg’s goal was also centered around power, he wanted to use Rose for his own benefit, and wasn’t necessarily on Ethans side. Who knows what would’ve happened if Ethan helped him? Heisenberg could’ve kept Rose for himself and gained more power
Dude I totally agree, I know it's probably a bit of a controversial opinion but he really just was like the oldest adopted child who understood what was really going on. He knew that none of them were actually her children, just experiments to her. & he was the only one who wanted to get vengeance out on her rather than trying so desperately to gain her approval like Moreno. I think him & Ethan could have worked together, heisenberg just didn't believe that anyone would be powerful enough. He still had that childlike belief that your parent is just like the strongest person ya know. If Ethan or Chris could have convinced him they would be able to defeat her without Rose's power then maybe he could have actually been a really good ally to them on enemy lines & given useful information.
I think Ethan not being an "outstanding" character is what makes him a really really good character in the end. Because he's not supposed to be Chris Redfield or Leon Kennedy, he's just a civilian who got pulled into a huge mess when all he wanted was to live a normal life.
Agreed, he’s super relatable, he’s willing to push himself no matter what pain he’s going through in order to try and help his family, hell he was even willing to sacrifice himself all for his family because he loved them which I found extremely relatable, I know for myself there’s nothing I wouldn’t do for my family

I agree Ethan is a great character IMO, he’s not meant to be taken seriously so when he does do the things he does it makes it feel that much more impactful knowing this nobody pulled it off. One complaint is that we never saw his face, if he was supposed to be a “insert yourself into his shoes” character then they shouldn’t have 1. Given him a vice 2. Given him a name (could’ve left his last name as winters but let the player choose his first name) and 3. They made him basically a bio weapon hybrid with great healing powers. Like c’mon man just show his face when he blew the village up
I'm going to have to disagree. Claire Redfield is just an average college girl looking for her brother in RE 2, but they managed to give her plenty of character through her games. Ethan is a total blank slate, I don't think they ever even say what his work is. His motivation might be noble, but his character has absolutely no depth other then his goal. Personally, I just can't get attached to a character I know nothing about.
Chris: "I didn't want civilians to get involved!" Ethan: Dude a civilian did your job for you. If you gave me some guns, some bombs, medkits, a plane and a parachute I could've taken out these lords in half the time.

Jack's iconic line "Welcome to the family son" from 7 makes more sense now. He killed Ethen and use the mold to revive him like Evelin did with all the Bakers.
Yeah I thought so back in RE7. It didn't take much to get infected so it was unlikely that he made it out unscathed from that ordeal. The "goop juice" itself is a product of the mold if I recall correctly.
It’s also kind of made sense why he brought him to the dinner table all the other people he killed just got put somewhere in the house to be turned into monsters but he brought Ethan to eat with the family
I think I felt most sorry for Moreau, he wasn’t trying to be evil, he didn’t necessarily want to hurt anyone, he just wanted approval. Even Ethan insults him after his death, guess fish boy can’t catch a break

Love how Ethan could've possibly avoided his death if he had agreed to Heisenberg's offer, since the only reason he didn't agree was because he didn't want Rose to be used as weapon.... only for her to be used as a weapon after her died.
I just want to say this to Jack and everybody else who misunderstood: Spencer did not create the virus out of the Mold, or anything to do with the mold, he simply got inspiration for his company and the virus from Mother Miranda's work.

Ethan Winters died a hero and I definitely sobbed for too long thinking about Rose remembering her father and everything he did to save her because of the shared consciousness.
personally i really like ethan as a character BECAUSE of how bland he kinda is, ethan is just a regular guy (ignoring the mold aspect) who got dragged into this situation because he wanted to save his wife and daughter, he is just a good person and i love that simplicity, he isn’t a soldier, he’s just a bug hearted guy
It would be one thing if every game had a “regular guy” and this one just had a bland personality... but the fact that he’s the only “regular guy” protagonist in RE so far makes the bland personality stand out more as a unique and interesting trait
I think people don't really like Ethan as a character because the previous series so far have far more interesting and well-written protagonists than him

I'm going to make a wild guess here, this is just a wild guess, but I'm going to say Duke is a Mold person older than Miranda, though perhaps not as powerful. That would allow him shape shifting powers that enable him to go where he pleases despite his size, and perhaps mental abilities to make the others ignore him, or maybe they just ignore him because fighting him is futile. He could even be the true collective conscious of the mold, representing all the innocents of the village who have been exposed to it, and therefore have good motive to help Ethan even though he's unable to directly oppose Miranda. Symbolically, then, the others would be ignoring him the way they ignore all their innocent victims, deaf and blind to the suffering they've caused and the karma they've racked up.
I disagree with a lot of this "just let it be vampires and werewolves" or "just let it be its own thing and not tie into the story". Resident Evil so far has had continuity, campy as it is sometimes, and I like the fact they keep tying everything together. If they want to do something with fairytale monsters and myths and things, I am sure that would be an awesome game from these creators, but it doesn't need to be a Resident Evil. It would be a bad call for them to throw out the continuity at this point just because some people care more about the monsters than the story...

Nahh he had some minor firearms training. He used a tactical reload on his guns like how the pistol he didn't just throw the magazine he replaced it. The shot gun all had proper reload animations that aims to he efficient rather than to look cool like most "realistic" game does. You don't just throw away the mags they have to make those. The final shotgun however aims to be fast. It's a fast tactical reload that is really hard to do it looks simple but it took training to do. He also kicked the enemies back keeping his distance from the enemies. Like when we get grabbed he didn't just push them away he kicked them away. Ethan clearly had some experience with firearms and close combat now

Ethan is honestly one of my favorite protags in the series, dude was just a damn good husband and father who put them before everything else. He wasn’t a charismatic hero, just a joe shmoe doing his best to protect the people he loved.

Well it's only throughout the game, isn't it? Which, according to the ending of the game where the report was submitted, lasted only approximately two days. And since Mia was captured and experienented on instead of killed, that shows that Miranda had time to spare, meaning that it could've only been recent. So most likely Ethan last saw Mia at least a few days ago, less than a week

I don’t think Ethan was ever meant to be a classical hero like Leon or Chris, I think he was created to be a tragic hero. He’s not an agent or a soldier, he’s a husband and father who gets torn apart repeatedly both mentally and physically just trying to protect his family. And I actually really like that choice on the developers part, to give us a different type of protagonist. And I’m okay having never seen his face, I still felt incredibly connected to him by the end of everything.
I think that he is a really well constructed character, I haven't connected that well with any of the other protagonist, they made him real.

I can agree with your opinion, i felt the same about his character throughout the game. Even at the very introduction to his character, he was just portrayed as a husband who went on to save his wife back in Louisiana unlike Mia(his wife) who used to work with the Connections.
i think when writing that, res went way in over their depth. their story writing and design has always been...yeah...but usually it works really well for what they do, but for writing something with this deep emotional content and the mechanism and workings of the human mind under that kind of duress, its just not their craft

I love Ethan, Resident evil did a good job of showing a civilian-like character reacting to everything Chris or Leon has already been through. They never wanted Ethan to have this HUGE high point of looking cool, cause that just isnt him. He's a father thrown into a world he never belonged in.
I'm so glad I'm seeing so many comments like this. I'm glad that Ethan is getting the love he deserves for simply caring enough to go through hell TWICE to protect the people who are his responsibility. He's got hell and high water both at his back and he doesn't trip ONCE.

I like Ethan as a character too but you're wrong for saying they don't want him to look cool or have high point of view because they do try it by giving him very cheesy, corny dialogues with lots of swearing, I'm not saying there's anything wrong it. Just stating. The only problem in Village of Ethan for me is that this games story is really weak. The game's other characters are really strong and well written, they completely overshadow Ethan. He just doesn't have a strong story to keep your engaged or connected with him or his story. This game is wonderful and I absolutely love it but just because of its wonderful graphics, villains and areas.

Beneviento had basically nothing to go on, Moreau did have some character but nothing too crazy. Heisenburg is the only one who I'd argue has the most character besides Miranda. And those corny lines and swearing is whatever lol, I don't think me or you would go out of our way to say some heroic statement after defeating some gross mutated beast, that or I'd just stay silent.
By technicality Leon is a semi civilian like character in RE 2 so this makes Ethan one of the only "purely civillian" protagonist

I cried at Ethan’s death. As someone who doesn’t have a strong relationship with my dad, seeing Ethan traverse this world to save his with no real way of even knowing it would work and then sacrificing himself for her really got me. I liked him in 7 but loved him in 8. I hope they find a way to bring him back for a cameo or something in the next game.

Fun fact : In the development of this game , The Duke was going to be the fifth lord. As you can see in his carriage he has an owl rug , Duke was going to be a lord that resembled an owl like the other lords represent other things.
i would like to expand on that with this thought: perhaps he WAS part of Mother Miranda's 'family' structure, but essentially chose to go his own way rather than follow her and the others' toxic approach to... whatever the hell they were doing to the village. it would explain why he even showed up in the DLC, given the megamycene's subconsciousness, along with his hostility towards Rose.

Yeah, I think Chris`s behaviour is mostly for the plot to happen imo.
Doesn`t mean it is good writing - actually I think it`s one of the points I don`t like to much about this game. They setup a "plot twist" or a "is he really the good guy" situation, but after resolving everything I just went "wait, that`s very much out of character"
I mean, that he doesn`t tell him first, that would be understandable to get the jump on "Mia". But after that? Could explain it to Ethan on the way basically.
I think Ethans condition also while interesting and it makes sense for alot of things got me to think about some things. Like: How can he bleed? How can he for example lose fingers, and they don`t grow back over 8 - considering how fast others regenerated? How was Rose received? I mean, it`s said that she was born in a hospital. But how is that possible?
I don`t dislike the Ethan arc, and it makes WAY more sense this way but at the same time some questions really aren`t answered in my honest opinion.

Wait, Ethan is made of mold. The herb that was healing him was rosemary, which flourishes and grows mold. So that’s why he was able to just slop some “juice” on there and be “molded” back together. Because rosemary grows mold, so it basically just put him back together. Also cute to think Rosemary is his daughters name... like he kept “growing and coming back alive” because he was saving his daughter, Rose. She kept him flourishing, and going. Sweet ❤️.

Idk why, but for some reason, the line kinda felt off or corny for me. It got me laughing my ass a bit, but it still made me depressed that he dies in the end though. His last words were just something an american or literally everybody wouldn't realistically say before he dies. I didn't mean to offend anyone btw. I only thought that he could've just said "Goodbye Rose" instead of calling her Rosemary xD.
Maybe, I just got used to every hollywood protagonists uttering, "I'm sorry" as their last words to their love ones when it comes to situations like this.

It starts off with them all loving and appreciating Miranda and all that she did for them, but soon turned into hatred when they were being ignored or being under appreciated for all that they did for her. Hence why they started disobeying her and going Rouge. Heisenbergg was never fooled though and hated Miranda from the start.

I just realised, the story mia (miranda)told rose, was basically how the game played out but backwards with the respective creatures representing the lords and their insignias.
Lady Dimitrescu: the bat was willing to give the blood to the girl, but lady Dimitrescu did not willing give ethan his daughters head.
Beneviento: the silk master willing gave the girl a dress. Beneviento didn't give Ethan the daughters legs back willingly.
Moreu (i forgot how to spell it): the fish creature, willing gave the girl the scales, Moreu did not willingly give ethan the arms back.
Heisenberg: The Horse, did not willingly give the girl the Gear on his head, Heisenberg did willingly give Ethans daughters torso back.
The story showed that the horse was the outlier meaning Heisenberg was always the outlier among the Lords.

I really enjoy how the story hasn't just a basic RE classic ending.
Also love that the "Village of Shadow" is a foreshadowing of all the bosses:
- Bat / Dimitrescu clan
- Spider's threads / Donna Beneviento (doll)
- Fish monster / Moreau

and don't forget that all together is mother Miranda

Just realised that at the end of the battle, Ethan still goes with Chris even though he’s dying, fighting to stay alive for Rose. But when Chris tells Ethan about Mia being alive, that is when Ethan decides that he can rest and die in peace - giving Chris the baby and sacrificing his life.

Because he found out that she was alive. He's done what he needed to do, he saved Mia from the Bakers and got infected in the process. Now he saved his daughter from the village and gave his life do so. He chose to stay behind because he was dying anyway, and died in peace knowing that his family was safe.

The idea of calling Chris Redfield "fleshed out" as a character in comparison to Ethan is kind of hilarious, considering Chris' character begins and ends at "follow the mission" in EVERY game he's in.

Chris did get some good story and character development in resi 6 though. He had a whole arc about how he let his crew die on a mission and he has to overcome the fact that his crew was there ready to die if it meant even just trying to accomplish the mission. And that he as a leader must accept the fate and honor their work. It’s actually told pretty well. Too bad it’s resi 6 💀
Chris actually did get developed this game, even if a little bit. Ethan is the most boring kind of stereotypical character, the parent going after their lost child. Aka the main character from Fallout 4, aka the worst main line Fallout game. It's lazy. Any human qualifies for that character role by sheer instinct, there is no separate motivation and determination beyond "must secure kin for furthering of species".
Tldr: Ethan is vanilla, motivated by basic instincts. Chris is developed, pushing on with a project he believes in even though it's draining him, especially knowing there are Umbrella-like forces corrupting BSAA.
GUYS I JUST REALIZED SOMETHING:
So earlier in the game when you’re in Castle Dimitrescu, you go through the part where Alcina and her daughters have you bounded and cut you up to taste your blood. Alcina made a comment stating “he taste stale” or something along the lines. Lady Dimitrescu could taste the fact that Ethan is dying/dead.

They give you a hint about Ethan not being a "real person" at the start of the game. The girl and the dad you meet at the beginning, the dad was bitten by a lykan and eventually turns into one. Ethan however, got bit a chunk out of his hand and still didn't turn into one. I think that was the first hint that Ethan was different than the others.

I actually really liked Ethan as a protagonist because he was a normal guy that had realistic and relatable motivations. He was a dedicated father / husband who went through hell to protect his family, in both 7 & 8. He's always been so understandable and to me, he feels the most human out of all the RE protagonists. I mean, his breathing at 1:10:40 was so full of fear and panic because he's not this powerful badass like Chris, he's a regular dude that's willing to die to save his daughter. He goes out in a way very fitting for his character.

Dude I totally agree, I know it's probably a bit of a controversial opinion but he really just was like the oldest adopted child who understood what was really going on. He knew that none of them were actually her children, just experiments to her. & he was the only one who wanted to get vengeance out on her rather than trying so desperately to gain her approval like Moreno. I think him & Ethan could have worked together, heisenberg just didn't believe that anyone would be powerful enough. He still had that childlike belief that your parent is just like the strongest person ya know. If Ethan or Chris could have convinced him they would be able to defeat her without Rose's power then maybe he could have actually been a really good ally to them on enemy lines & given useful information.

I agree Ethan is a great character IMO, he’s not meant to be taken seriously so when he does do the things he does it makes it feel that much more impactful knowing this nobody pulled it off. One complaint is that we never saw his face, if he was supposed to be a “insert yourself into his shoes” character then they shouldn’t have 1. Given him a vice 2. Given him a name (could’ve left his last name as winters but let the player choose his first name) and 3. They made him basically a bio weapon hybrid with great healing powers. Like c’mon man just show his face when he blew the village up
I'm going to have to disagree. Claire Redfield is just an average college girl looking for her brother in RE 2, but they managed to give her plenty of character through her games. Ethan is a total blank slate, I don't think they ever even say what his work is. His motivation might be noble, but his character has absolutely no depth other then his goal. Personally, I just can't get attached to a character I know nothing about.
The final battle with Miranda is literally two divorced parents arguing about who has custody of their kid

Yeah I thought so back in RE7. It didn't take much to get infected so it was unlikely that he made it out unscathed from that ordeal. The "goop juice" itself is a product of the mold if I recall correctly.

I'm going to make a wild guess here, this is just a wild guess, but I'm going to say Duke is a Mold person older than Miranda, though perhaps not as powerful. That would allow him shape shifting powers that enable him to go where he pleases despite his size, and perhaps mental abilities to make the others ignore him, or maybe they just ignore him because fighting him is futile. He could even be the true collective conscious of the mold, representing all the innocents of the village who have been exposed to it, and therefore have good motive to help Ethan even though he's unable to directly oppose Miranda. Symbolically, then, the others would be ignoring him the way they ignore all their innocent victims, deaf and blind to the suffering they've caused and the karma they've racked up.

I disagree with a lot of this "just let it be vampires and werewolves" or "just let it be its own thing and not tie into the story". Resident Evil so far has had continuity, campy as it is sometimes, and I like the fact they keep tying everything together. If they want to do something with fairytale monsters and myths and things, I am sure that would be an awesome game from these creators, but it doesn't need to be a Resident Evil. It would be a bad call for them to throw out the continuity at this point just because some people care more about the monsters than the story...

Nahh he had some minor firearms training. He used a tactical reload on his guns like how the pistol he didn't just throw the magazine he replaced it. The shot gun all had proper reload animations that aims to he efficient rather than to look cool like most "realistic" game does. You don't just throw away the mags they have to make those. The final shotgun however aims to be fast. It's a fast tactical reload that is really hard to do it looks simple but it took training to do. He also kicked the enemies back keeping his distance from the enemies. Like when we get grabbed he didn't just push them away he kicked them away. Ethan clearly had some experience with firearms and close combat now
I wished the game would atleast show Ethan's face one last time tho..

Ethan is honestly one of my favorite protags in the series, dude was just a damn good husband and father who put them before everything else. He wasn’t a charismatic hero, just a joe shmoe doing his best to protect the people he loved.
Ethan: *kills a bunch of lycans and zombies, constantly almost dies, kills a big booba lady, kills a creepy puppet, kills a big fish, kills a big metal monster, comes back from death and faces a crazy witch lady all to save his daughter*
