Hi I'm a builder from Russia, Vladivostok. Many thanks to the author for giving the opportunity to look at how buildings are built in America and compare it with how they are built in Russia, it is very interesting. The first thing I want to note is that the construction site and around is very clean, all construction debris is immediately removed, and the second is that all workers are always and everywhere equipped with personal protective equipment.
Safety is the number 1 thing in America. Still not sure if it's because of actual employee safety or because companies don't want to pay out workers comp or settlement claims

Hello HC, another good one showing the rebar being fitted by a dedicated team. The concrete pour must have been a logistical headache and then the rain came but it went ahead. Thanks for sharing and I hope all on site stays safe 😷
Hightower600, they call it rod busting to be a rebar ironworker and it’s a young man’s game. Pays about $45 an hour in SFO and that ain’t nearly enough for the toll it takes on the body. Backs, neck, and ankles take a real beating.

I doubt they could get a real good finish. The concrete may be real rich so it will not hurt the strength- hope so- it would only affect the top inch anyways.
Good god almighty that’s some mammoth concrete pour AND all in the rain......💪🏻💪🏻💪🏻!!!! But I’m NO EXPERT on construction of big buildings but from what I’ve seen I always thought the lift shaft was 1st to be built??? Maybe all stairs-ramps in this building 🤔😃
Surprised they don't use the double bladed ride on power floats,on a slab that size. Not that i would want to sit on one in that weather. Does anyone know how many loads of ready mix it took?
They are all of the drainage an underground electrical, if anything needs to be fixed it requires the removal of the concrete above the pipe to replace or fix.
Please tell whether there are cases when any employee works without a construction helmet or a signal vest, whether there is any penalty for this or dismissal ? What responsibility does the employer face if the Builder is injured at work ? I'm just wondering how it was possible to convince or teach American workers to follow safety regulations so responsibly. In Russia, some construction sites have problems with this, and some workers do not want to wear personal protective equipment, they say that "the construction helmet prevents them from working, it constantly slides over their eyes." I don't know how to deal with this, maybe American colleagues will advise me something?
in the netherlands the rules are simple: no helmet, no access to the worksite. When you get caught not wearing it on the site, you will be sent home with a warning. the second time you will be sent home and are not welcome on site again. Regarding the fit of the helmets, the cheap ones indeed slide easily over your eyes, invest in good helmets which have a foam or leather coating on the straps.
A good quality helmet is the key. Look closely at many hard hats are Kask and you look up the cost to purchase they are a few hundred dollars. Well worth the money for safely and comfort.
this is probably a dumb question but i have to ask...is it a problem if a pipe leaks in the concrete? i assume the pipe gets forever sealed in concrete. no idea if i make any sense or not lol
The black pipes are drains. Sanitary sewer and probably roof drains. Those pipes are coated inside and out to reduce corrosion. If the concrete cracks and the pipe breaks and leaks, they can be relined with an epoxy impregnated sock to stop the leak or the concrete and rebar can be chiseled away to replace the pipe segment.

Hi. I did not know that in America workers use pliers to tie reinforcing bars together. In Russia, a worker uses a special hook with a rotating handle to perform this operation. They need 1.5-3 seconds per connection. A coil of wire is pre-cut with an angle grinder to get short pieces of wire. A hook is cheaper than a pair of pliers and faster than any electric binder. Holy mother of god, that is a lot of concrete. Is this to make it quakeproof, or is this standard practice for a 13 story building?
It's standard practice in earthquake country when you can't get down to bedrock. You make a pad to float on top of the sand.
